World’s Tallest Jesus Statue in Poland – A gigantic statue of Jesus, which claimed to be the world’s tallest, is found in a western Polis town.
According to Sylwester Zawadzki, the priest who created the statue, Christ the King in Swiebodzin stands 108ft (33m) – one meter for every year that Jesus lived. However, other local officials said that the statue was 167ft (51m-high), if it included a mound it sat on and the golden crown on the head.
They claimed it was higher than famous Christ figures in Bolivia and Brazil. The total height of Cristo de la Concordia in Cochabamba, Bolivia, measures 133ft (40.4m), while Rio de Janeiro’s Christ the Redeemer stands 125ft (38m).
On Saturday, there were hundreds of people who gathered to watch a giant crane lift the statue’s arms and shoulders and slowly laced them onto the figure’s lower body.
The crowd were surprised and broke into applause. Some even prayed as construction workers finally hoisted on the head – crowned with a golden king’s crown. According to priest who created the gigantic statue, Rev Zawadzki, he has never been as happy as he is today. This is the culmination of his life’s work as a priest.
The statue was financed by private donations from around the world, but Rev Zawadzki declined to say how much it cost. The town officials and the locals are now hoping that the statue will promote the town and would invite tourists from around the world.
Nevertheless, some local residents have dismissed the statue as tacky. They said that it would have been better if the money was use to spend on social projects in the town.
