South Park Episode 201: Comedy Central Censored Mohammed
April 22, 2010 by Sandy Winterfield · 231 Comments
South Park Studios has caught attention once more after they aired their latest episode, Episode 201. This is the 6th episode of the fourteenth season of South Park, and the 201st overall episode of the series.
Originally, Mohammed, the Islam Prophet is part of the scene. However, producers decided to censor the prophet’s face as well as his name all throughout the episode. In Islam, their Prophet’s name is of high regard and depicting him in anyway is prohibited. Some viewers were disappointed about censoring it. Quoted from a comment in a south park topic forum escapistmagazine.com, “censoring Muhammad for the sake of a satirical poke at the hypocrisy that is freedom of speech, Matt and Trey missed an enormous opportunity to make statement that would have had more meaning and impact on the world then anything that have ever done or will ever do”. He added also in his comment paraphrasing a statement of the episode’s preview “If you don’t show Muhammed, then south park will be gone forever”. A counter reaction to his comment was then given and it says “i believe you are expecting too much from them though. Seriously, they are not trying to be social commentators. They are just there to make light of serious issues. They don’t ever try to make a point, they try to be funny.”
You can watch the preview of Episode 201 in southparkstudious.com. When I clicked Watch the Full Episode button, this statement appeared, WE APOLOGIZE THAT SOUTH PARK STUDIOS CANNOT STREAM EPISODE 201 AT THIS TIME. AFTER WE DELIVERED THE SHOW, AND PRIOR TO BROADCAST, COMEDY CENTRAL PLACED NUMEROUS ADDITIONAL AUDIO BLEEPS THROUGHOUT THE EPISODE. WE DO NOT HAVE NETWORK APPROVAL TO STREAM OUT ORIGINAL VERSION OF THE SHOW. WE WILL BRING YOU A VERSION OF 201 AS SOON AS WE CAN.. It means we need to stay tune.
For those who were able to watch it in Comedy Central, feel free to share your reactions about the episode.

we as the people should no longer be pushed around or live in fear of these cowards these muslim fucks all it takes is one person to lash out in public agaisnt them and then the rest of us will follow as the muslim people paint a target on matt and trey”s head by giving out there home adresses we the people should do some thing and i will stand behind the man that does we will no longer live in fear or the muslim”s will get there satisfaction
I for one am infuriated… Matt and Trey set out to make a point and were stifled. It’s up to Matt and Trey to decide if they want to fold into terrorist pressure. Comedy Central is at the top of my shit list right now. I love south park, i’ve watched it since it’s release, and I own every episode. Obviously except 200 and 201, witch comedy central has wiped from the earth. I support Matt and Trey to the fullest extent. If we start to give into pussy bullshit from fuck stick mother fucking extremists, then they will push further until our rights are gone. I just want to say FUCK Muslim Extremists, and yes FUCK the Muslim prophet Muhammad.
comedy central has pulled ALL mohamed images from their site
Is comedy central own by musulman….?
Terrorists: losing on the battlegrounds, winning the war.
We as Americans stand for freedom for the common man, and started this great country in the hopes that we would lead an example of a world where no one would be afraid of persecution for possessing and expressing basic, human rights.
This day has shown us that we no longer have this freedom- when a group of religious fanatics are allowed to threaten the lives of two people that excersise their freedom of speech without consequence then it is time for us to get off our asses and start smelling the roses.
Together, we are strong. We need to stand up next to Matt and Trey who had the courage to speak out about our current situation and realize that terror will only consume us. Terrorism only works for those that are weak- we need to take a page from our forefathers and take back our voice and let everyone out there hear us: We are Americans, united we stand, and forever we will remain strong.
This entire series of events has inspired me to draw my own series following Muhammad and his intimate love of barnyard animals. Expect it on paheal soon! =)
Comedy Central has also deleted the episode “Super Best Friends” from South Park Studios because it contained Mohammad. I worried one day I’ll wake up in a Muslim controlled America where I can’t have fun, jack off, have sand up my ass, and I’ll be as pissed as the idiots who threatened Trey and Matt.
um…DURR? LOL noone was forced to censor the images because of terrorism! It is a part of an ongoing ‘in-joke’ in the series ever since the ‘cartoon wars’ episodes DERP! I cant believe people are actually believing this, are we really that stupid? You all got trolled by matt and Trey ROFL! the censorship was intentional, its a passive statement playing on peoples fear of terrorism! I am LOL’ing so much at the serious reviews to this article! But really, ITS A PART OF A JOKE PEOPLE! FREAKIN’ DEERRRRKKAAA DDUUUURRRRRRR!!!!! Whoever wrote this article, make sure you get it right next time! and ima still laughing my ass off
Its the gingers that need to be censored!
@spile you wear cargo pants and type like an immigrant.
ps. you mentioning that you will only accept replies from those with “college educations” just solidifies the fact YOU are obviously the uneducated individua. congatulations, you boast about imagined accomplished via the internet. better luck next summer, champ
I`m from Germany and I was lookoing forward to this episode like hell!
I can’t watch South Park on Tv here because Comedy Central is not broadcated here.. so I am in need of southparkstudios.com. After a week of waiting i got on the site just to see that 201 ain’t there. What the fuck! How can Matt and Trey give in to these fucking asshole extremists?? That is totally paradox! I mean they are already messing with this difficult issue so they should bring it to the end.
I’m sick of our world always giving in to these deluded motherfuckers
I am in no way for the censoring of any kind of media. When i watched episode 201 and heard the constant ‘bleeping’, i was infuriated, disgusted and incredulous at the gutless approach that had been taken towards this ridiculous debacle.
However, the censoring of episode 201 was can be seen as a good thing in that reinforces the whole point of both episodes, that we are constantly having to walk on eggshells for the sake of any group of people in case they are offended and they react with complete irrationality, be it with litigation or violence.
I dont want anything to happen to Matt Stone and Trey Parker, i want them to continue producing their unique brand of off-the-wall stuff that makes us all laugh and most importantly, think.
The people making death threats obviously lack this basic ability.
Its just like the Danish cartoon controversy of 2005. The proph…..hang on….the ‘bleep’ (you know, just in case) was depicted in a way that implied muslims are prone to violence. So what did those offended by this go and do? They burned embassies, attacked people and their homes, and basically went crazy with violence.
The only logical response to that is ‘thank you for proving our point’.
note: i am a redhead. Perhaps not a ginger, more a daywalker, but there is no denying my hairs hue. MY people were ridiculed in that episode……and it was hilarious.
EVERYone, just put your foolish pride aside for half an hour and laugh at yourselves, please. I think thats the bottom line in what Stone and Parker are trying to do here.
Form germany here too. I have seen the 201 Episode in its bleeped form. Until now i didn´t really know if its a big joke from mat and trey or if its Comedy Central. I felt unconfortable after the Episode and i din´t really know how to take it. Because if it was a joke, for me it wasn´t funny. If not: Screw Comedy Central. And it was not. According to the new Statement of Trey and Matt Comedy Central has added the bleeps. In my opinion THATS the real Terrorism. Not the Explosion of some building and cars and stuff. Its the fear. If we fear terrorism and let is intimidate by violence then the Terrorists have won. I think thats the topic of Kyles anding speech wich was bleeped too.
I’m from Denmark (you know – where it all kind of started?) and I strongly support Matt and Trey all the way! I actually think it’s pretty funny how Comedy Central had Muhammed’s name bleeped because througout the episode his name is said SO many times and because of all the bleeping, you get a better picture of how LAME and F*CKING RIDICULOUS it is that not even his NAME is to be said! And in the end where Kyle learned something (and it usually is when we actually all learn something and Matt and Trey tell us a true oppinion) it’s bleeped as well. Again – it’s so f*cked up. Where’s freedom of speach!?!? Comedy Central shot themselves in the foot when they decided to bleep freedom of speech because it gives a clear picture of how RIDICULOUS it is of an issue!? They SHOWED Muhammed in the super best friends episode but because of all the stupid shit that happened in my country people are AFRAID! OMG! I never saw a bomb from terrorist in DK? I saw a bunch of deuchebags burning our flag. I SUPPORT MATT AND TREY TO THE END!!! FREEDOM OF SPEECH!!!!!!
OH! I forgot something. The BEST is when Cartman says: “People care WAY MORE of who my father is” when Kyle and Stan looks “at us” and we’re just sitting: YAAH!? I for one care waaaay more of cartman’s dad than that STUPID issue!! lol
i-for one stand by Matt and Trey, and after seeing the second chapter of the South Park saga having been taken over by censorship, i was confused at first.. But then after reading MANY reviews of SP episode 201, i discovered that the rumors are true..
I’m rly not good at making speeches/leaving comments like this, but, all i can say is this,
What the freaking Hell ever happened to “freedom of Speech”? And that when all of this blows over, I just hope that I can get episode 201 available on DVD soon, if they fail to Air it anywhere else.
i think that at the end of the day, in it’s most basic outcome, this very thread is why the episode aired as it did. when you’re in your 14th season, you gotta spice it up a bit. if anyone knows how to tickle the nation with current events-based satire that gets people talking, it’s Matt and Trey.
MUSILMS ARE SO LAME… IT’s A SO LAME RELIGION THAT I CANT BELIVE IT… I REALLY THINK THAT THEY CAN SUCK THE PROPHET PENIS AND SUCK MY BLACK COCK WITH ALL THE VERGINS THEY WANT… MOHAMHED IS A PIG…. AND I LOVE FUCK PIGS:::: SO NOW WHAT U GONNA SO MUSILMS ASSHOLES???????? FUCK YOU MUSILIMS….YOPUR RELIGION WILL DIE SOON WITH ALL THE REST OF YOU
Mmm i lost the episode, damn it – usually i watch it on saturdays to relax a little. However, i think some of you are taking this either too seriously or not enough. Just give it time like if you were waiting for the next episode and stay on watch – what’s the point in all the angry statements, you’re not reaching any truth here and you don’t really know the whole story – yet – it’s a matter of patience. Relax and wait for what they will say, and we’ll see.
Wheter you think this is simply entertainment or is pure prophecy to you, you still have to keep in mind the rules that exist to try and maintain peace in any kind of situation. Hope to hear more news soon, for the moment i’ll offer you all free ponce and hats -Matt
Who-a you ignorant fucks. You can’t just go around fucking with the East (which, let me point out is about 2 thousand years older civilization that Europe, and about 4 thousand years older that glorified shit-hole called America). You call them terrorists, but none of you dumb ignorant ass-hats stopped to think that may be shit YOU DO causes the terrorist attacks. Like really, do you think that terrorist go to that length and trouble to blow you the fuck up JUST BECAUSE THEY ARE TERRORISTS?!?!?!? Really, US asks for shit, and when it gets it, everyone goes nazi on the Muslims just because they give US the shit it asks for. Really.
Loved the episodes thou, beeping was annoying…
I agree with the censorship. There is absolutly no need for anyone to be harmed because for a laugh. If they had not censored this episode, would it have recieved the same amount of attention? Now people are aware of how Muslims can influate people, they can decide on ways to end their arrogance and ingnorace towards the rest of the world.
Just read that the new south park episode has been censored by comedy central for “possibly incitefull religious content”. This is bloody ridiculous! Are we such a paranoid society that we have to censor every partisan or derogatory viewpoint that is created?! Maybe networks should, rather than censoring such things, promote an appreciation of irony so people will learn that such things are a reflection on the absurdity of culture and not a literal insult against any one particular stance. South park has always been a show that, love it or hate it, encourages people to view (celebrity) culture as vacuous and largely facile. This freedom of cultural speech is essential in maintaining a sense of perspective and integrity in the face of rising amounts of intolerance based on a lack of mutual understanding. If the media werent so scared of betraying a standard of political correctness then maybe this irony would be promoted and an introspective attitude would promote mutual understanding and extinguish fear…….. Sea man is funny tho!
i b4 however was lucky enough to c mohammed uncensored in the earlier episode “Super Best Freinds”. But however this is completely stupid. YOU VANNOT DO THIS, WE THE AMERICANS ARE FREE, WE DO NOT HAVE TO FOLLOW THE RULES OF EVERY RACE, COUNTRY, AND RELIGION. THERE DIFFERENT THINGS CUZ ITS LIKE THT! nutin will hapen to trey or matt, i can assure you. But in a way its sort of religionist (racist against religion) to by censoring it, we are afraid and saying tht all muslims r terrist, i meannotice how they do tht for just the muslim religion prophet mohammed, and shut up about the bear suit, he couldnt even see his body!
-If you rly want to spred the word, copy and paste this and sent it to everyone you knw but any means possible.
-SINCERELY-everyone
I’m rather shocked at all this. First, I heard about ACTA from my roommate and thought that was scary. Now I see that this episode has been censored, and all the anger and hate that it’s producing, and now I’m even more afraid for the wellfare of humanity.
What I mean by that is this, and I assume that I will be ridiculed and shot angry comments, or perhaps even threats, for saying all of this…
I believe in freedom of speech, and exercise it whenever I can. I know a few of my friends who do, but for every person that I know who speaks their mind and is unafraid (or, perhaps, prudently afraid) I know over a dozen people more who hide behind the ‘freedom of speech! Long live America! Home of the Free!’ sentiment. It’s rather depressing, in my opinion.
That is to say, not everyone here is like the latter group. In fact, the idea that people are saying their mind is amazing about all this. However, how many people would stand up in the middle of a white, Catholic, Republican community, and not only admit that this censorship is tearing down one of our basic rights (which was being destroyed ever since the Patriot Act, in my personal opinion, if not even before that) but also admit that they are democratic; they are a part of the GLBT community; or that they are pagan, or Jewish, or Lutheran, or Buddhist, or Mormon, or Hindu, or, yes, even Muslim in today’s era.
But all this hate is not even from the threats from people who are offended about what they possibly see as their religion, slandered and dragged through the dust and rather offensive. No, it is also from these people typing here that are commenting about “FUCK Muslim Extremists [et al.]” and how “IT’s A SO LAME RELIGION THAT I CANT BELIVE IT… I REALLY THINK THAT THEY CAN SUCK THE…[et al.]”
And now I wonder how many will ridicule me for quoting as I have, instead of copying exactly what the people ahead of me said, without further reading my explanation.
You see, I have a healthy respect for pretty much every religion out there (Yes, even Mormons and Satanists, though I do not condone anything dealing with human sacrifice and may not agree with their beliefs myself) and I would rather respect the fact that, in finishing those statements, I believe I am as offensive, if not more offensive, to the beliefs of an entire people if I were to willingly and knowingly quote something that was written in anger and to offend people. Yes, I laugh at South Park. Some of my favorite episodes are the few making fun of the various religions there. The reason I am able to is because, as mentioned before, Trey and Matt make fun of anything and everything. I am actually surprised I have not yet seen an episode making fun of fluffy wiccans and neo-pagans (though if there is one, please, direct me to it). If they were only ripping on one or two religions, I would have stopped watching long ago.
I do not believe that everyone will either read my entire message, or even understand where I am coming from. So, if I may sum up my findings for those who are still wondering what all this is about:
We’re all spewing so much hate over this, it’s no wonder the world is going to hell. We’re all to blame, every last one of us; even myself, for only writing once and a while about this and not taking an active hand in changing things for the better. So thank you all for your hate and anger, and I hope that 2012 jars us all back to reality so that humanity, for all that is left of it, can be saved.
You may proceed to rip on me now.
I am really sad, it feels like when a neigborhood is controlled by those 3 guys around the corner, we are a lot more but we don’t do anything. I mean, are we going to live in fear because muslims get offended by everything.
Just like Jimmy said “come on”, I respect what other people believe in but if they are in the US where there’s freedom of speech well they should respect it, and if they don’t like then go somewhere else, it is that simple, but Comedy Central by censonring this episode are just agreeing with them.
Islam is not a unified religion, such as the Catholic Church or Scientology, it exists as a part of each individuals personal identity. As such it doesn’t have a unified voice, or even a unified code. Much like in Modern Unorthodox Christianity each individual’s relationship to God and the written word of God is individual to that relationship. The Qur’an isn’t exactly strict or clear about depictions of Muhammed (peace be upon him), and so each Muslim may decide for themselves the boundaries for depicting the prophets. Throughout history many cultures, including Muslim cultures, have depicted Muhammed. I would like to bring this useful archive to your attention. Many of the images are quite beautiful.
http://zombietime.com/mohammed_image_archive/
In fact, modern depictions of Muhammed were not deemed a cultural attack on Islam until the controversy in Denmark. Oddly enough the pictures actually printed in the Jyllands-Posten were not the images depicted on many Muslim websites. It has been suggested that certain Imam fuelled the fires of hatred with more offensive images. Series 5 episode 3 of South Park titled “Super Best friends” depicted Muhammed as one of many religious symbols becoming a Super-Hero fighting evil and dangerous religions. This caused no controversy. It seems that this issue isn’t about depicting the Prophet. It seems since the series 10 episodes 3 and 4 of South Park “Cartoon Wars” the focus of including Muhammed in the show has not been to mock the faith of Islam, nor flout the rules of the Qur’an, but to illuminate the dangers of censoring free speech for fear of terrorism. That is what cartoon wars was about, and it was really the focus of “200″ and “201″. It comes as no surprise then that the fringe radical groups who use terrorism are the only Muslims outraged by these episodes enough to use the threat of terrorism to censor them. Other Muslims may disapprove of the depiction of the Prophet, but they haven’t sent death threats. The majority of Islam would prefer a dialogue than mutually assured destruction. One of the qualities in man that the Qur’an places value upon more than most is wisdom.
It is easy for us to get lost in our own hatred and fear when these issues come up. For the record I am against any kind of religious fundamentalism, and completely against acts of religious terrorism. Religions should have no business in the running of the State, and these fringe groups such as Revolution Muslim are no more representative of the good people of Islam than the Ku Klux Klan are of Christianity.
I am very disappointed in comedy central, they r supposed to be American, and they r just backing down to terrorist threats.in my opinion south park is the best show ever.they make fun of EVRY1 even themselves, now they cant make fun of Muhammed. That is fuckin bullshit and all the pussy, whiny, lilbitch muslems who cant take a joke can go fuck them selves.FUCK MUHAMMED FUCK HIM RIGHT TO HELL(which is prob where he is because he was a pedofile)
Lucky me. I was able to watch it when it aired.
If people actually were upset by this episode, they’re ridiculous. There was nothing in there that should have been censored. The fact that it WAS censored proved that Comedy Central did not get the point… there’s no good reason for Mohammad to be off-limits when nothing else is. To refuse to show it is to let yourself be intimidated into doing what bad people want.
And WHY would they censor out Kyle’s entire speech about that if the speech didn’t even bring up Mohammad?
Hey just wrote and sent this to CCs support thought id share it on here too.
This is going to be a little long, it has to be. I understand you feared reprisal from extremist Muslim jihadists, you have family fear is part of the human condition, but matt and trey knew the consequences of their actions, they produced the episode knowing them and not being intimidated, and they deserve to have their message shown how it was intended. forums are flooded with hate for the censorship your network forced onto this show, even going so far as to censor a long speech given at the end of the episode that was about intolerance and fear. (not once mentioning Muhammad)i had originally thought this a joke as the name Muhammad was repeatedly censored throughout the episode, in what id assumed was typical trey and matt over the type style, only to learn it was an act of cowardice. in closing, i know i don’t mean much to a huge company like comedy central, im just one man, and i understand WHY it was done, but in America, we still have freedom of expression, and censoring that because a group of radical extremists might get their feelings hurt, is tantamount to giving them the keys to the oval office.
This is ridiculous. It’s so obvious having watched the episode that Parker ans Stone put all the censoring in themselves. The guy on this website explains it very well.
http://www.mostvisitedpage.com/
What are you going to believe next, that Eric Cartman’s mother is a hermaphrodite?
dudes, i myself live in a islamic country even though i’m not muslim and i’ve been trying to find that 201 for hours right now. I am just a deist and i really don’t care about any religions at all. But i grew up in these places so i kind of know how people act. You see, for muslim people jesus or mose are also prophets and they also don’t make fun of them neither. Just because for them, muhammed guy is the last one and he kind of brought some clean towels to those dirty arabic bastards at years 500AC. So i think now that it’s 1500 years later, just one episode of having fun without even showing his image ( as it was censored ) shouldn’t be much of a problem right ? Cause i really wanted to see who cartman’s dad was
But hey, just don’t think that all people living on those countries are bad or something. it’s just what they believe so let’s all just take a deep breath and try to find a link for me
Freedom of speech is a Western liberal value, it might be regarded as a good, positive value, but it is not a universal value, it arose out of certain historical circumstances. In the Muslim world, a different history created a different culture with different values.
Some of the controversy stems from the common belief that Muslims challenge the concept of free speech per se. This is not the case. Instead, they only want to see it restricted when it clashes with their sensitivity about Islam-related issues. The depiction of Muhammad is forbidden, in order to shelter oneself from idolatry. Many Muslims would disapprove his depiction.
Nonetheless, very few would resort to violence, which is unacceptable in any way. But the Western world indeed needs to understand that it is a highly sensitive issue to most Muslims. Of course, free speech is a very important value of our culture, but people should think about if they want show something just to prove a point, oblivious to the pain they cause.
After all, freedom of speech is never and nowhere unrestricted
Matt and Trey should do an episode that discusses the allegation that the crazy Muslim in NYC who threatened them was born with the name Cohen.
People, it’s all fake. It’s manufactured fake hate.
Haha. Somehow I think there is a strange paradox between Mohammed and Voldemort from Harry Potter. He that must not be named.
fuck those terrorists, muslims have always been the asshole of the world. they are over religious, extremists about their faith, it is called MODERATION,
you curry-chuckers!!!~!! thanks 4 ruining the best episode of south park ever made!!!!
201 can be seen here : http://www.casttv.com/shows/south-park/201/qsxfmb1
Way to cave in to terrorism Comedy Central. Show the stupid dude, its not even like he does or says anything controversial. More disappointing is the censorship of Kyle’s speech at the end. Maybe we should all tune in to a different network for our comedy.
humans as far since God created them had to go touch do what they have been warrened not to from Adam with the tree and apple , and still people have no respect for religious and especially not the muslim one , when there was an invitation to make fun of people in the hulacost oh that was outragious , make fun of slaves and Niggers oh yes again that was outragious make fun of gays thats out ragious , that explains only that you people are only arrogant and thats what distroied saten oh you didn’t hear still believe we came from monkeys and even so you probably don’t care why they came from either right just had to believe in non sense . and just in this page we can see why the world will never be a safe place muslims do not believe in making fun of people but they waited so long this show makes fun of God and jesus witch they highly respect more than Christains themselves
i do not believe that stan and matt should be killed but they should be charged with hate crime if you call a woman a bitch or a whore you get to go to jail if you call a black person nigger thats a hate crime but you can make fun of muslims why are we waiting till they do something ?
many of you won’t get this because you are still fucking ignorant
I am so pissed off! Fuck the damn Muslims and their bullshit. America was founded on freedom and not censorship.
Go to the link below share you thoughts with them. Send your feedback to their advertising sponsors also.
http://www.comedycentral.com/help/questionsCC.jhtml
omg all you 13 gay fanny sniffing gay turds are making me piss my pants with laughter! ok so matt and trey take the piss out of everything but i can understand why muslims would be upset about their prophet, its the same uproar that people had when they started to show jesus etc.
its not freedom of speach, its about being civil towards all religions, and matt and trey simply don’t respect that
as far as the rest of you haters go…well your not even worth me thinking up something to say
Having fun does not mean in any way being an asshole…also freedom of speech does not mean being an asshole either…so why not having fun while still have some respect for others?!!! for example (listen Will) I do not have to make fun of your tiny dick to have fun.
One more thing, the western countries also censor other people’s thoughts. For example, do you dear saying anything about the holocaust without being called anti-semitic?!!! Seven or eight years back Austria’s prime minister at the time had to resign after pressure he was put under due to similar remarks….some come on…this is a typical fight from your side “do not call me bitch, only I can call you bitch”
well there is also this fact that noboy actually knows muhammed’s face or voice or anything since he banned everyone from painting his picture or sculpture. I think that’s also one of the reasons why he was censored. Because, if they were to put some image of it that would be totally stupid cause no one knows him and then the muslims would get even angrier. But like i said, he is a friend of best super friends and at the show jesus was the one who was kinda protecting and respecting him for how he wanted to be treated. I think people are just simple-minded and just response to oww they put muhammed on southpark. Not the part that everyone in south park and jesus and others are trying to protect him…
wtf is rise rise talking about? calling people cowards in the longest, most ignorant run on sentence i’ve read in months and then saying that he will stand behind the man that will do something about these muslim fucks instead of doing something himself? not only does he sound like a total pussy trying to talk brave, but he’s the exact type of idiotic close-minded american that makes the rest of the world hate our country. what he doesn’t realize is when he watches south park or many other shows on comedy central, he’s watching people make fun of people like him.
rise rise, you are a fucking dumbass.
So… I see some people are saying things about muslims and islam and the prophet muhammad. for one, I’m muslim and when I watched 200 and 201 I laughed. true, extremists are total nut jobs and should calm down. I know it was all for a laugh, but seriously, If you don’t respect our religion, why should we respect yours? have you ever heard a muslim mock jesus or moses? I can tell you now, no, You haven’t and you probably won’t, and that would be because they’re prophets of god, there’s no need to mock them. but when someone like “Steven Wilson” come around saying things that no one wants to hear, that just infuriates people, don’t you think?
How about I say “fuck jesus, fuck christians, especially catholics, fuck moses, fuck jews, fuck EVERYONE” how would you like that? I just slandered your prophet and religion? Aren’t you mad? don’t you want to punch me?
yeah. that’s how we feel.
Don’t pretend like we started everything. look through history, we never start fights.
But who was the episode poking fun at?
It certainly wasn’t Islam. It was more the fact that you can make things worse than before than being ridiculously politically correct. This is why you end up with the townsfolk dressing *BEEP* up in a mascot costume, giving him less dignity than in any other fashion. The replacement of *BEEP* in the costume with Santa is replacing him with the most innocent inoffensive thing you could, for Santa see Mr. Stay Puft.
The same comes from the fact that Mephisto, clearly intelligent but slightly mad, is trcked into letting in both Cartman/Connor and the gingers. By changing the rules through trying to be overly tolerant you end up becoming more of what you hate.
The case is proven by the way Comedy Central has handled the issue. In the UK we haven’t seen 201 on the air yet. Although I have just managed to track it down online. Having seen the heavily censored version I am slightly surprised that Parker and Stone have not released the transcript of the “Springers Final Thought” section. Surely explanation is the best part, and provides the moral of the story. Whether people agree with it or not (the moral that is) this is the part of the story that freedom of expression is truly needed. And was ridiculously curtailed.
The whole series pokes fun at everyone. Even nupmties like me that analyse everything, hence Scrootie McBoogerballs. Which i did find very funny.
Peace gaywads.
Sharia law has been declared on Comedy Central.
I think many of the people who have posted comments here are missing the point. First, I really doubt that the excessive censoring is part of an intentional joke on the part of Trey and Matt. If it were than the episode would have reaired in all of its replay time slots on CC and would be posted on South Park Studios and neither of those is the case. Secondly I think several folks are getting hung up on the show making fun of Muslims, but I ask you, do they really? Do they poke fun of the fundimental beliefs and tennants of the Muslim faith like we’ve seen them do with Mormons and Scientologists? The point the guys are trying to make is that why should Islam be the only religion that is not ok to satire. In episode 200 Jesus tells the boys that Mohammed should not be made fun of because he’s a religous leader, then turns and tells Buddah not to snort coke in front of kids. Buddah is a religious leader, but Trey and Matt are not receiving death threats from angry Buddists. This is the point that they are trying to make. Both episodes are packed with people the guys have satired over the past 14 years, but for some reason Mohammed is of limits?
One more thing, Mohammed has already been depicted on South Park as a member of the Super Best Friends in the season 5 episode titled Super Best Friends. He and the other religious leaders join together to stop David Blaine and his cult of “Blainiacs”. In the episode he is completely uncensored and even has the ability to shoot fire from his hands. Why was no one so offended by that that they threatened someone’s life?
This is exactly the kind of shit that is going to lead to race wars in the near future. why can’t we just cut out all religions? If anyone has ever read enough of the New Testament in the bible jesus even said it himself that he does not believe there should be any form of organized religion.* Be that as it may, Catholics are just as wrong as the Muslims, the Jews are just as wrong as the Protestants, and the whole Christian religion is a joke. We are in 2010, why do we still have to listen to a man in a big hat with a golden staff? Why can’t I sleep with my neighbor’s wife and we both have to go to hell, I didn’t break wedlock. And why instead of yelling JESUS FUCKING CHRIST can’t I yell MUHAMMAD FUCKING GHANDI?
*Sidenote: I do not believe that jesus had super powers was any sort of son of god or rose from the dead. I do, however, believe he was a real person, apparently one worth writing about, at that. nor have I ever touched a bible outside of my catholic high school 5 years ago.
No surprise. Trey and Matt folded like the liberal sissys they are. They make fun of all other religeons, but once they are threatened, they lose their arrogant smirks and cower in the corner like cowards. A lot of brave and valiant men and women fought and gave their lives for freedom. These clowns would throw it away in a second to save their asses. I am blocking Comedy Central.
