The NBA Eastern Conference Champions are doing what they can to beef up their roster this summer. They have just signed former Houston Rocket Von Wafer to a veteran minimum one-year contract.
This comes in the aftermath of the Miami Heat acquisition of streak shooting guard Eddie House. The Celtics were initially interested in House and were reportedly trying get Roger Mason and Jarvis Hayes as well. They are looking to replace Tony Allen who has signed up with the Memphis Grizzlies.
Wafer last played in Greece with the Olympiakos after the 2008 NBA season with the Houston Rockets. He should be able to provide quality minutes as he has done with the Rockets before.
One area of concern is how he will fit in the rotation with the Celtics offense primarily focused on the big three of Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce and Ray Allen. Add another option in rising star Rajon Rondo. Wafer is the type of player who is not the type of player who would dish off when he gets the leather and is never shy to take shots from way out.
If Doc Rivers can keep Wafer under control, the Celtics can be a better team with him in their lineup.
