US News and World Report College Rankings 2011 Are Out For College Students- It has been said that education is the greatest treasure a person can possess. Every parent wants the best for their child in terms of education. Therefore, colleges and universities play a vital role in possessing this greatest treasure.

The US News and World Report released a list of top colleges and universities in the US to help students make one of the most important decisions in their life – which college or university will they entrust their education. They released a “2011 edition of Best Colleges” sourced from more than 1,800 colleges and universities across US.

The US News and World Report used several categories in ranking these colleges and universities in terms of best quality and best value for education. To rank colleges, U.S. News first placed each school into a category based on its mission, either a research university or national liberal arts college. Second, they gathered data from and about each school in 16 areas related to academic excellence. Third and last, the colleges were ranked based on their composite weighted score.

Not every colleges and universities in the US were included in the rankings as the US News and World Report also had their guidelines and requirements for qualification. Accordingly, to be included in the rankings, a college or university must be regionally accredited and have a total enrollment of at least 200 students.

In the National Universities, Harvard University in Cambridge Massachusetts got the top spot as the best university in the US with a perfect score of 100. It was followed by Princeton University in the second which got a score of 99. Third place was Yale University which got a score of 98. For the rest of the rankings, you can view it here.

For the National Liberal Arts Colleges, Williams College in Williamstown Massachusetts got the top spot with a perfect score of 100. It was followed by Amherst College in the second with a score of 98. Third place was Swarthmore College which got a score of 96. For the rest of the rankings, you can view it here.
