99ers Held Successful Rally for Tier 5 Unemployment Extension

August 15, 2010 by · 69 Comments

Unemployment Extension: 99ers Held Successful Rally for Tier 5 Unemployment Extension – The much awaited first rally of the 99ers to call the attention of Congress for a Tier 5 unemployment extension bill was successful. It was held last Wednesday, August 12, 2010 at the Federal Hall, 26 Wall St., New York City from 12pm to 1pm. Ed Scultz and other media covered it.

Dubbed as “Keep the American Dream Alive Tier Five!”, it was attended by groups of 99ers demanding for the passage of a Tier 5 unemployment extension bill. “A man without a job is like a man that does not exist,” said 99er Rubin Edwards, 48, of Clinton Hill, Brooklyn, who came to the rally dressed in a suit and tie. “I hope and pray for my future in America today.”

Currently, there are two Tier 5 unemployment extension bills being proposed. The first one comes from the Senate introduced by Senator Debbie Stabenow which provides 20 additional weeks of unemployment insurance for individuals in states with unemployment rates of above 7.5% and a one-year extension of two tax credits for businesses that hire unemployed workers.

The second one comes from the House of Representatives introduced by Rep. Shelley Berkley from Nevada aiming to provide an additional 20 weeks of unemployment benefits but only for those states with unemployment rates of 10 percent or higher.

Was the 99ers rally “successful” enough to call the attention of the Congress? The Congress is set to reconvene on September 13 after their recess. But will any of the two Tier 5 unemployment extension bills be tackled? According to an article in Open Congress, Senator Schumer said the Senate in September will focus on a bill to promote small businesses, a child nutrition bill, a tax-credit bill for companies and possibly a vote on the Bush-era tax cuts or the START arms treaty between the United States and Russia.

Having said that, there’s still no urgency committed to the 99ers in passing the Tier 5 unemployment extension bill. Below is a video of the rally of the 99ers calling for a Tier 5 unemployment extension bill.

Not going to happen. 99ers, you’re screwed. Time to move on. Sell that house ASAP, sell that new car ASAP, etc. Go ahead and accept your fate and pick up a job at Taco Bell because the next few years are going to be ugly.

Pack your stuff up and move the heck out of your high unemployment state and move elsewhere. There will be no tier 5 anytime soon and while you wait you will be ruined.

Empty promises and false hope is all you have until you accept your fate.

    • 2ndAmendment says:

      screw you

    • zak says:

It’s easy to say move on and accept your fate. But when you are 59 years old like me, and have been on management salary, and now a 99er and a father of tow teens how it’s possible to make end meet working at taco Bell

    • Roy says:

You may be right but has it occurred to you that when it gets ugly it will spread to you and you’ll be joining us on the road. Think about it future fellow traveler.

    • Bikergirl says:

Hence the reason for the clown nose!

    • chyrisse says:

      screw u 20 times

    • brad says:

Ya thnx…already sold….BY THE BANK ! Subway will not hire me so why should taco bell

    • anonymous says:

      Booby,

You seem to have alot of free time on your hands (when your hands aren’t playing pocket pool that is). ;)

    • compassionate person says:

Uh, the house may not get sold for years, the car is the same, and the unemployment rate is high everywhere…. and the age doesn’t change when you move. The fate you speak of is homelessness. This is a depression. So have some human compassion.

  2. Kathie Eidson says:

It needs to be made very clear that there are way more than five applicants per job opening. Employers are getting hundreds of resumes for one position! The media continues to get this fact wrong.

I cannot get employment at any fast food or WalMart. There is also severe age discrimination going on that needs to be addressed. Also, if you have a degree and extensive work experiene, you are considered over qualified and too old. If you don’t have a degree you are under qualified and too old. We are dealing with a double edged sword and it’s slowly killing the ‘hard working’ middle class AMERICANS!

    • Bikergirl says:

I went on an interview today in which for the few jobs they were filling they had over 2,000, yes, 2,000 applicants!

  3. jazzzyyy says:

ITs time to extend now !

  4. robert says:

Good point take some of that money being spent on the war and give to americans who need it

  5. dave says:

extend it now……….now is now, enough is enough give us tier 5 nowwwwwww

  6. wife of 99'er says:

Well, it’s about time someone gets SOMEWHERE with this!! While I’m sure we’re all glad about finally getting someone’s attention, it’s unforunate that we all MAY be considered, SOMEDAY…IF there’s not too many other pressing issues that crowd us out…what are the odds?!So, they’re thinking about limiting the help to those states only above a certain percentage of unemployment….Does that mean people should have to take a job 300 miles from home at minimum wage??!!What about counties like ours in Northern Michigan that have 13-17%? The only jobs out there seem to be min. wage 20 hrs. a week or so. This is ridiculous.I pray they pass SOMETHING! We are withdrawing my husband’s IRA this week(WHAT’S LEFT OF IT AFTER THE PENALTY AND TAXES ARE WITHDRAWN!!!!)That should pay our bills and PROPERTY TAXES just until another extension is(maybe) passed….Looks to me like maybe the government is still making money off of us LAZY people. 25% of it goes straight to Uncle Sam. Not our kid’s school clothes, athletic shoes for sports, Christmas gifts, etc. No, there MAY be enough to just stay afloat until the end of September…(IT’s not very much, we were hoping to leave it in the IRA and add to it when and IF he ever got another decent job. Oh well, that’s life, huh?

  7. Maija Laurens says:

Once again another delay, this should have been voted on before they broke for recess What the heck is going on when they, Congress, can delay and delay. They continue to be out of touch with the every day man and woman, who are beyond despair. In addition, someone should take a look at required penalties for withdrawing money from retirement accounts. I was forced to drain mine to survive, I am certain I am not alone in this. Those penalties should be suspended for the longterm unemployed and retroactively be returned.

    • diva dee says:

This is a really good idea—-suspend penalties on ira and 401 K would be some little help

Also we need to suspend all aid to illegals and anchor babies giving that aid to the unemployed.

And we should rally in every town

  8. poor welfair guy says:

What are people gonna do now, i got robbed 3 times in 1 week or at least attempted robberies, people need an extension or at least temporary government work or something… 99ers are dieing out here left and right like mosquitoes.

  9. 99er daddy says:

Me and my kids are hungry and S**** we need something… I dunno what to do i though i was a good father until now, i hate hearing daddy where hungry and i have to tell the kids to go to bed and wait until breakfast.

  10. 99er daddy says:

my and my kids be hungry, pass something

  11. Ryan says:

Yes provide a Tier 5 at any cost, but what about insisting the Congress go after the corporations like SONY that refuse to hire the unemployed ?
“UNEMPLOYED NEED NOT APPLY / UNEMPLOYED WILL NOT BE CONSIDERED”
What would it take to damage these corporations reputations that refuse to consider the unemployed that they would have to start considering and hiring the unemployed to repair the damage.
The damage could in fact be the companies public image

  12. larry says:

My quess is that if there is not a tier 5 by December, some crazed 99ers will takeout some senate republicans…JMHO

  13. Jack says:

I’ve just exhausted UC benefits, and there are still NO jobs to be found!
Congress needs to pass Tier 5 or else every week more and more people like my family and I are going to be out of benefits. What then? What happens to us? What is America going to look like in a few more months? We don’t want to lose our homes. This is NOT OUR FAULT!

Congress expects the chronic unemployed (we who paid taxes all our lives)
to just “get a job.” The jobs are non-existant. They claim that they “can’t
afford extensions,” but they give BILLIONS in foreign aid to countries that
hate us, including Palestinians – who danced in their streets when the 9/11 attacks
happened. But to unemployed Americans who are about to lose their homes, it’s
“Pound sand! We have more important things to fund!”

  14. Rick U. says:

I feel the demecrats in power are behaving like hypocrites. They claim thet they want to help the longterm unemployed, but in actuality they want to see the longterm unemployed suffer and panic.
They could have passed a tier 5 extension long ago: I know it, You Know it, They know it and everybody knows it.
It seems to me the only one that they want to help are the super-rich, and the unions.
The people in power in washington arre elitists, and purposely out of touch with ordinary Americans.

  15. Jone says:

Unemployed is unemployed. The needs are the same. 10% is way too high. 7.5% is traditional rate. Hope by 7.5% the economy will pick up and further reduce the unemployment rate. 10% won’t do.

  16. Roger says:

When the “unemployed” realize that they must start taking care of themselves and that the corrupt government does not care to keep them alive other than to buy their votes is the day they will start to take their lives back. Jobs are not magically created (especially by a government dictator, example: Cuba). Sadly most of the “unemployed” see potential employers as the enemy and have the “cut off the heads of the capitalists” attitude. Lack and suffering always follow the entitlement mindset. These are harsh words to some but will in the long run be seen as much kinder than a handout. As a wise person once said; “those who do not know history are condemned to repeat it”.

    • 2ndAmendment says:

damn, some of you idiots think its like in the 20″s and 30″ and 40″s, where people could just pack up, and go way outside any town, squat on the land and grow some crops, even in their back yard, they might be able to grow food , IF they have paid their water bill, which doesnt happen becuase they have to pay a mortgage first. The Politicians need to get their heads out of the 40″s & 50′s as well. The world has moved on, and left them stuck in the mindset of 50 years ago. even 25 yrs ago, life was totally different.
If this country has millions/billions of Tax Payer dollars to send OUT of the country, they damn sure have enough to continue unemployment extensions. Even if we are not recieving a dime, what little money we do have, from selling family heirlooms, wedding rings, gifts, etc, WE STILL PAY TAXES.

    • Bikergirl says:

That is also the problem! These farts are too old to be running congress! 80 years old and still in congress (Rangel) 70 years old and still in congress (Pelosi)? PLEASE! I bet they are collecting their social security too! All of this mess needs to be replace!

    • Lorrie says:

Roger – Not looking for a handout. This isn’t ‘entitlement’. It’s time to get back a little of the hugh amount of taxes I’ve already paid! I should be a priority to receive a ‘hand up’, not those in this country or another country that have never paid taxes. What government entitlement program are you receiving?

  17. New Paradigm says:

    Congratulations protesters!

  18. New Paradigm says:

This is a sad, completely self-destructive perspective:

“A man without a job is like a man that does not exist,” said 99er Rubin Edwards, 48, of Clinton Hill, Brooklyn, who came to the rally dressed in a suit and tie.

This is what society taught us to believe but not true. Contribution to society is inaccurately measured by his job. His contribution to an employer is a combination of many factors he can and can not control; few of which include contributing benefit to society.

  19. New Paradigm says:

Demand an extension and the government eliminate the anti-fair trade laws that exist. But don’t think for a minute the government can magically create jobs and the problem is solved. The problem is much more complicated and shrouded from view. It is easy to feel like collateral damage to “the economy”, but not the case. The 99ers are among the intentional victims of the war against the masses – nearly everyone; most certainly everyone most of us will ever even know exists.

Slowly, over the past many decades, wealth has been increasingly centralized to the rich. You’ll hear conservatives talk with disdain about the “redistribution of wealth” from the working people to the very poor in the form of taxes but rarely hear about the one going on from the working people to the very rich in the form of obscene executive salaries and perks, super-rich controlled market control and the unaccounted for billions that we rarely hear about.

The fact that there are so many people all over the world in crisis at once is not coincidence. It’s luck. Otherwise every day people doing what they think is right, (based on inaccurate and incomplete information) would be too complacent to care.

  20. New Paradigm says:

Keep up the activist movement but don’t stop at “get us jobs or extend unemployment”. Let’s stop buying from countries that don’t buy from us. Let’s penalize off-shore companies that do business with and as Americans but don’t pay takes. Let’s outlaw trade with countries that do not have fair employee and safety protections, product standards and proper disclosures. Let’s stop paying farmers not to grow food. Let’s change oil extraction laws so they don’t benefit the rich by sacrificing people and the environment. Let’s take away the corporate advantage to get rich by violating employees, consumers, competitors and the planet.

  21. stephen says:

99ERS LETS GET ON—- YOU TUBE—–AND SHOW THEM OF WHAT WE ARE GOING THROUGH– NO FOOD— NO MONEY—- FOR BILLS ETC ETC LETS ALSO GET ABC ETC INVOVED AND JUST LETS SHOW THE STUPIED ASSSS WE MEAN BUSINESS MAKE THERE LIFES HELL AND JUST REMIND THEM IF THEY SCREWW US NOW BY NOT VOTING IN A FITH TIER EXSTENTION WE —-WILL—VOTE THEM OUT OF OFFICE IN NOVEMBER WE —NEED AND DEMAND ____THE FIFTH TIER EXSTENTION —-NOW—-WE ARE NOT GOING AWAY THEY WANT TO FIGHT WELL LETS FIGHT THEM.

99ERS WILL NOT FORGET THEM IN NOVEMBER

  22. RayT says:

I fear there will be no 5th tier of benefits for any of 99ers now or in the future. Soon there will be 5 million people out of work and benefits and no prospects on the horizon. Stop asking the Gov’t for help its never going to come and you would have to be a fool to think it is. Its time to stop asking and begging for help from the congress and the senate its not going to happen. So what do we do in the meantime, its simple stop asking and start taking. Vote the bastards out of office, sure but you and I both know what replaces them may be even worse. Stand up and start taking what is rightfully yours. Take this into the streets like Friday in New York City on Wall St. But multiply it by 10,000 people and you get the picture. Even those bastards in DC can’t ignore 5 million people. You have been screwed by the very people you sent to Washington its time to reverse the abuse in whatever means possible. Take it to the streets folks its the only voice you have now stand up and use it. We are not a nation built for the gov’t we are the gov’t now stand up and show it. In every state capital all across America we should be standing in front of every gov’t office and demanding the gov’t do something now. Those gutless worms in DC have motivation to help so lets give them one.

  23. Ken says:

I think finally the people who have been milking the system for a couple of years will now have to look for work ! Finally ! My friend to me it was a bummer his 2 year vacation was coming to an end and found a job within a week. Of course he could spell and use sentences fairly well. We notice that here in Reno … we now have white people working in fast food places instead of the illegals … finally a glimmer of hope. Screw the government programs … screw lazy people … lets vote out anyone that agrees with supporting lazy people.

  24. Don Farajian says:

WORKING IS GOOD FOR THE SOUL, NOT TO MENTION THE POCKETBOOK!

I HAVE WORKED FOR THRITY YEARS AS A UNION CARPENTER HELPING TO BUILD THIS COUNTRY
AND NOW NO MORE UNEMPLOYMENT BENEFITS THROUGHOUT THIS DEPRESSION???

BIG GOVERNMENT SCREWED EVERYTHING ALL UP! IF THEY DON`T CREATE A TIER 5 THEN THEY
WILL ALL BE VOTED OUT OF OFFICE IN NOVEMBER, PLAIN AND SIMPLE. DOWN WITH NANCY PELOSI!

  25. Denise says:

They need to call the senate back from recess. My benefits ended on March 2010. There are families starving and on the verge of being homeless. This is ridicules that America is so fast to help other countries but extremely slow to help their own people. HELP AMERICA BEFORE YOU HELP THE REST OF THE WORLD!!

We cant wait until Sept to feed our familes!!

    • LM says:

Yes, it is ridicules. People are starving, lost their homes, lost their cars, ending their lives because there are not enough jobs for everyone. Everyone in politics knows this is happening to Americans, and many of thme don’t care. They are on vacations, and resting, while the rest of this country suffers and goes down the drain. September is a very long time away for “Americans” who need help NOW. How easily they forget who put them in their jobs. When November gets here, the hurting unemployed Americans will make it somehow to the voting booths. Voices will be heard then.

  26. Juanita says:

I do not understand why wasn’t the tier five unemployment extension bill included with the unemployment extension bill that was just passed in July. people that really needed the extension are now included in the new homeless population, with no money, no food and everything I have work for is gone with the snap of a finger. I am renter so my time is up for me living my apartment, my benefit ended in May. I been stressed about the unemployment extension bill and to find out you were not included in the unemployment bill unbelievable. The senate, congress does not care about the American people that put them into office and pay their salary until the day they die. The Senate already has their schedule as to what they are going to do when they come back in September. they will be focus on a bill to promote small businesses, a child nutrition bill, a tax-credit bill for companies and possibly a vote on the Bush-era tax cuts or the START arms treaty between the United States and Russia, And the 99’er are nowhere on that schedule. I don’t understand when the senate was called back to congress for a vote on the teacher’s job bill, tier 5 unemployment extension bill should have been included in that. However, it wasn’t so is this a message to the American people we do as we please, we only want your vote to what we want, and we will tell you what you want to hear to just to get your vote. However, there is no urgency committed to the 99ers in passing the Tier 5 unemployment extension bill.

  27. Tee says:

It’s ok yuppie fks some1s comn down ur chimmney this december and it ain’t gonna b Santa see ya soon

  28. John says:

Did you notice that neither of the women mentioned any political names in that report? They didn’t even mention the House or Senate. Nothing is going to happen unless individuals are named and called out by the media.

  29. Harold M. says:

This entire matter has become so stale that the media is “regrinding” the same stories that were in the news two weeks ago.

I suppose if they haven’t starved us to death by now, they will try to bore us to death.

  30. Turner says:

You have to call the radio and news and even newspapers to comeplain that there not telling the truth. In pa and new jersey there is 200 peoiple applying for every job. Wev lost 7 millon jobs in there last 8 years under jerkoff bush. While the 2@er cent of the rich tripled ther wealth in the last 8 years. What a joke this country has become.

  31. vick says:

To borrow words from one of Michael Jackson’s songs… All I really know is that they don’t really care about us!

  32. Hurting says:

If all us 99er’s robbed banks and got caught we would have a roof over our heads, three meals a day and recreation at a federal prison. What the hell we’ve lost everything anyway. You think the prisons could handle millions of people? I think not.

  33. Angie says:

I’ve worked my butt off for 3 decades now and I could not be more DISGUSTED with our government for leaving those of us who like to work and stay busy, high and dry. They go on a break without a care of how we will survive!! I have to hope each week that I can qualify to get money for my plasma, otherwise I have nothing. The libraries are filled with those of us applying for jobs along with the employment agencies busting at the seams with job seekers. I have learned that a large portion of the time I am among 300-800 other people applying for ONE position. WHERE ARE THOSE JOBS they talked about?? We are people who have been your neighbors, your friends, co-workers and family members. For ANY of you that believe there has not been an effort on our part, SHAME ON ALL OF YOU!! Unless we can have better odds for getting jobs, we need this extension to be implemented NOW, for us to continue to exist on this planet.

    Seattle

  34. wife of 99'er says:

I really would like to know why it is that people like us (who technically have zero income) can get $670.00 in food benefits for a month, but nothing to help with a house payment…. why not use some of that $ to pay for shelter, and then some for food? Then they wonder why America is obese…Live in tents and we’ll all eat just fine…oh, but then they could come take our kids away because they’re not taken care of…and let’s not forget, as soon as our cashed-out IRA is reported (which will pay 5 week’s worth of bills), they’ll cut the food help back down. They only consider house payment ,utility allowance, taxes and insurance- not vehicle insurances or credit card payments, life ins. or everyday expenses. Yes,to Maija ,above: The IRS should allow penalty-free(or lower%) for those of us trying to survive after unemployment…SOME OF US ARE USED TO LIVING WITHOUT INSURANCE(which is permitted, penalty free or reduced)and our kids are on their own for college(hopefully they have more luck getting funds from the government than us)and we’re 15 years into our mortgage, so that rules out first time home buyer…as usual, we slip through the cracks…cracks that are turning into the Grand Canyon!

  35. Jane says:

This is the beginning of our country going into a depression. Many people don’t know or care about the jobless 99ers, they are immersed in the current news of sports and the super stars. What are the super stars wearing? What color dress or underwear do they wear so we can imitate these stupid bird brains. What are the sports’ stars driving these days? This is what the majority of Americans care about. Nothing about what is going on in our government; waste of spending and under the table pay offs and deals. Wake up people this is the beginning of a new America. There will be more and more unemployed people in our country that we can shake a stick fighting for housing and food. Look at the amount 30,000 people seeking public housing in Atlanta in one day. Are these people all working? The employed idiots will be and should be scared to go shopping because someone will rob them as soon as they leave the store. If it is not happening now, it will happen. Business’ will be closing because of lack of customers leaving more people unemployed. Good luck to the old American dream; work hard, pay your taxes and you will enjoy a great life. Ha, ha, ha.

  36. Shay says:

Don’t u understand if they give us benefits they have to add us back to the total number of unemployed making the administrations unemployment numbers horrible there is an election this yr the Dems (whom I voted for) are playing politics just like the republicans do… they don’t care about u or I.

  37. Cindy says:

HOW FAR IS THE GOVERNMENT GOING TO PUSH UNTIL SOMEONE ENDS UP SHOOTING UP WALL STREET. IS THIS WHAT THEY ARE WAITING FOR? THAT WILL BE GREAT NEWS FOR THE NETWORKS. THATS WHEN THEY GIVE US ATTENTION. WHEN IT IS TO LATE. WHAT PART OF “WE NEED IT NOW” DONT THEY UNDERSTAND? hOW MANY NIGHTS ARE YOU GOING TO SEND YOUR KIDS TO BED WITHOUT DINNER BECAUSE YOU MIGHT NOT HAVE ENOUGH FOR RENT IF YOUR NOT OUT ON THE STREET. IT WONT MATTER IF WE OUT THEM IN NOVEMBER BECAUSE THEY WILL HAVE A PENTION FOR THE REST OF THIER LIVES. THEY DONT FUCKING CARE!!!!! GOD IS WATCHING AND WHEN THE SHIT HITS THE FAN GUESS WHOS GOING FIRST? THE BASTARDS THAT FIND IT EASY TO IGNORE THE CRIES OF THE BABIES WHILE LIVING ON THE STREET. WATCH 2012. WHEN YOU TURN YOUR BACK ON MANKIND THAT IS WHEN YOU DESTROY MANKIND. WE CAN NOT WAIT UNTILL SEPT. BY THEN THE KILLING WILL HAVE ALREADY STARTED. WE NEED IT NOOOOOOOOOOOOWWWWWWWWWWWW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ASSHOLES

  38. Regina Alexander says:

They continue to insult us because of their fuck-ups.THEY CALLED US LAZY AND NOW THEY ARE CALLING US STUPID. They will rush to help non-Americans and find every reason not to help Americans. We need a change of guard people. Vote out Obama,it’s his side calling us stupid, and vote out the Republicans. Not one of them have done anything to better this Country or it’s people.!!SIGN MY PETITIONS ‘VOTE OUT THE REPUBLICANS IN NOVEMBER’!!
    http://humanrights.change.org/petitions/view/vote_out_the_republicans_in_november

  39. Del says:

Come November every Senator that is now in office will be voted
out (except Senator Stabenow & a few others like her).

I heard on the Howie Carr show (WRKO in Boston) last week that one
school system recieved over 3,000 applications for just 8 positions!!

Another received over 2,000 applications for just 5 positions.

Obama signed into law the 4th tier extension back on November 6, 2009.
Some States got 14 weeks, other States got 20 weeks. So everyone on that
extension ran out either in February or March.

What does that disgusting thing called Barack Hussein Obama think is
happening to all these Americans?? The TRUTH is that he couldn’t care
less!! And that goes for most of those disgraceful things in the Senate!

I am from Massachusetts and I voted for Scott Brown once, NEVER AGAIN!!

On July 4th Scott Brown marched in the parade in his hometown where he
grew up. HE WAS BOOED BY THE CROWD!!

Since this Great Recession began back in 2007, the US has given away in
the form of foreign aid SIX BILLION DOLLARS TO EYGPT, SIX HUNDRED MILLION
TO JORDAN AND TWO BILLION TO THE PLO!!!

But they can’t help out the FOUR MILLION AMERICANS THAT ARE GOING HOMELESS
AND ARE IN CRITICAL NEED OF A 5TH TIER EXTENSION!! DISGRACEFUL!!

This country has lost over EIGHT MILLION JOBS since December 2007!!!

Next Presidential vote that disgraceful person known as Barack Hussein Obama
will be voted out of office!!! And this November a lot of the disgraceful Senators
are going to receive their “pink slip”!!

John Kerry & Scott Brown!! Two useless and disgusting politicians will be gone!

  40. Dave says:

Who cares if FOUR MILLION AMERICANS are going homeless because they ran
out of unemployment insurance starting back in either February or March
(depending on what State a person lives in), they haven’t been able to find
a job because the country has lost over EIGHT MILLION JOBS since December of
2007 and they have exhausted any savings that they may have had!

    Who cares!!

Just as long as Michelle Obama can keep giving everyone lectures on what foods
to eat, then I quess it really doesn’t matter what happens to these FOUR MILLION
    AMERICANS!!

  41. Jonathan says:

Instead of a tier 5 for the 30 plus unemployed Americans. The Government should do another stimulus package. Send 1 million dollars to each of the 30 plus unemployed Americans. There won’t be a deficit, the economy would boom. JOBS would be created because of the high demand. My idea for this would be( You won’t be able to pull any cash out sorry but you wont be able to support any of your bad habits like cigarettes or drugs or alcohol, you would only be able to use it for goods. Having stipulations like you cant go and buy a million dollar house or a lambo or ferrari or a bentley but, you would be able to buy AMERICAN. But, you can get a 100 to 200 thousand dollar home. Buy no mortgage. And, go BUY a new vehicle also be able to use it for insurance for car and home. Purchase goods like Furniture Gas, groceries, ect. This would be on a credit card of some sort kindof like your UI card but, like I said you won’t be able to pull out cash. Also this money would be able to help the people who have bad credit to fix their bad credit. Well this is my 2 cents I like alot of other Americans would love for this too happen.

  42. Katie22 says:

People need to understand that the reason no employer in his/her right mind is hiring, is that we have an anti-business, pro-socialism president. Vote every last Democrat out, get conservatives in and you will see the perception in the business world change overnight. Businesses are sitting on a lot of money and will start hiring if they no longer feel threatened by this marxist president and his cronies. Vote conservative and watch America bloom. In the meantime, volunteer for conservative campaigns and pray to God for help.

  43. Gary says:

You know what people to a point this problem has gotten out of hand because of the American people, we should of fought years ago. The problem is that we are so caught up with living our lives and trying to reach the American dream that we let stuff like this pass us by. We create blogs and talk/bitch on websites, however not enough of us unite to do anything. We are so worried about losing what we have that we can’t gain what we really need. If you look at other 3rd world countries (the ones that americans feel so bad for) they fight, the protest the get their point across. I’m telling you if we want something done the American people have to rally and storm the white house. That does not mean burn it down, but gather in front with signs, verbal communication, and news media. Until we show the government that we are not playing and they have to do something, we will continue to scrape by.

Regardless if it’s Barrack or any other government member, they do not care about the American people. (I do not regret voting Barrack in office, this problem started years before he got in office.) Fine example of that is this damn near month brake the are talking. Anyone, will your bills stop during this month until congress comes back? How many of you will not be hungry and need food for this next month. They can go on vacation and enjoy themselves while we starve and attempt to make ends meet. For the first time in my life I have to apply for food stamps and W.I.C etc. I have never in my life had to lean on the state for help. I’ve seen more people selling their personnal items for money to get food and pay bills. Have you notice the amount of stuff in pawn shops now. We are continueing to give up what we want, but not willing to fight for what we need. How many of you rallied in NY for the 99ers? I did and I live in Indiana, some of us are trying but we need more help from the people that hurt by this economy.

It was the goverenment that gave the companies tax brakes.
The Government (Clinton) told the foreign companies they do not have to pay import and export tax for 10years when entering the company.
It’s our government that gave tax brake to the rich.
It’s our government that has this war going on and on.
It’s our government that we have to fight against so we can get back to our lives. I love this country and I believe in our government, but just like your kids, sometimes you have to punish or even spank that ass.

I don’t know that anyone really listens to us, but I’ve run out of my benefits, just a couple of months ago. I worked for a newspaper that downsized, so there are no jobs, or relatively few in that industry and it doesn’t look like they’ll be coming back. So I spent 15 years giving it ‘my all’ in a fairly specialized industry with no where to go. I’ve sent out literally hundreds of resumes, ‘networked’, and I’ve gotten exactly two face-to-face interviews. TWO! Out of all the resumes sent out or taken in, I’ve gotten exactly four replies. We ARE invisible. I went through my severance pay, my 401k and my IRA – all of it – just to pay the rent, the utilities, the car tags, car insurance and then food. There is NOTHING left to purchase clothing, pay for doctor bills or prescriptions, and when I applied for food stamps they want to know the make and year of our two cars, one that’s 26 years old and one that 15 years old. They want to know why we don’t sell them? Who wants them? And then what? And if they need repairs?

I previously worked for a company that moved it’s facilities out of the country. There were 600 local jobs lost. The company I last worked for downsized and there went almost 400 jobs. Several other companies in our area have done the same things before and after my lay off…… this may be much too simplistic but I think that when you have problems at home, quit making it easy to import cheap goods, and quit forcing companies out of the country. At the same time: To the Heads of Large Companies – really, HOW much profit do you need? Can’t companies think maybe if we are very conservative we could make a tiny profit but offer more jobs, or take your work force and give everyone 30 hours a week rather than 40, and then employ a larger number of people. I mean really, a large part of the work force is beyond stressed, working so many hours, cut a few hours from them and offer them to someone who really needs to work. We all don’t require the same amount of funds to cover our overhead, and when I worked there were plenty of people who could have and would have been happy to work a four day week so that they could invest more time with their families.

That’s my two cents. Very simple idea, but it would be a start.

I truly hope that the government is realizing what is going on in the primaries!!!! You see even the 99ers want all the republicans out of office that have voted no to help us! Even some democrats are glad to see them go, actually we are thrilled!!! But the press and the government are underestimating the democratic unemployed, which basically is the entire unemployed population! They have rolled from republican to democrats! So all you tea partiers that think you have a chance, well we are really just getting rid of the leftover trash to ensure they have no part in our government! Wait until november until all the unemployed vote! You are all in for a big, huge surprise! I personally cannot wait! you have all underestimated us with the racism, the disrespect you have given our president because of the color of his skin, and tea partiers……dont count on it!! When we vote you will know we the democratic unemployed mean business! So dont party to hard just yet! I am a white female who thinks this congress is an embarrassement to our culture and history of this country…..I speak of the republican party!!! Wait and see!!!

Ya know, I just got done reading some blogs on other sites and I am sickened at the site of Karl Rove. He should be in prison! Lets all remember, but our dear buddy George Bush pardonded him! The GOP should not even be a topic this election! Have we all forgot who the hell got us into this mess in the first place? I dont give up that easy, and I did not think other Americans in this country did either! I feel betrayed, not by our new president! I feel betrayed by George Bush, Dick Cheney and the Whole GOP, and Republican party along with all the rich in this country who could care less about hungry children and people losing everything as long as they can save a few thousand dollars in taxes! I am just sick to my stomach that this country has produced such greedy republicans, and human beings! God will reward you all, he does not like greedy people that cause children to go hungry! Fellow Democrats…..If you all give up now, you may as well just kill your self, because you will die in the streets of starvation and homelessness due to the republican GOP that could give a rats ass if any of you survive as long as they can line their bank accounts with the tax money we need for survival. No one in their right mind could fix this mess in two years not even ten years!!!!!!!!! Do you all think we elected GOD? You Democrats, like myself knew we were in for a bad time after the last happy asses left the white house! If you watch FOX TV you might as well stand in the supermarket line and read the tabloids and believe every word, because that is what Fox TV is all about……Lying!!!!! We need to stand together and say hell no you republican life wreckers!!!! You are causing our children and grandchildren to have to experience life in poverty while you all live high on the hog! I will never vote for the GOP or any yahoo that represents their goofy, greedy ass party! And if your a Democrat you better not or kiss your ass goodbye!!!!! Get with it people……these idiots vote no on anything that would help the middle class while having the nerve to ask for us to give them a tax break, ask us……the same people they say no to every stinking time we need an unemployment extension!!!! For God sake people give the president time, time, time…….it took them eight years to get us into this mess, its gonna take at least a decade to get us out. Our President needs a congress that cares about human beings and not money for themselves!!!!! We as Democrats need to stick by him and give him time…..he is doing the same thing he campaigned to do!!!!! He told us it would take time! He told us he would vote for the middle class and he has and his party, my party still keeps getting shot down by these republican theives that bankrupt our country! Liven up people, Also abortion isnt going away! Get real! Did George Bush get rid of it? Hell no!!! Its here for good no matter what party you vote for. And I am just livid that I have to even look at Dick Cheneys daughter trying to defend one of the men I believe should be prosecuted for war crimes!!!! Its getting sick people wise up or give up! If the republican party wins ,we lose!!!!!! Dont forget it!!! Its your life and your families, or the Republican party, take your pick!!!
