It looks like the end of the line for UFC light heavyweight fighter Brandon Vera while Thiago Silva may have secured his job after breaking Vera’s nose and winning via unanimous decision at UFC 125: Resolution on New Year’s night at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Vera suffered his third straight loss as a light heavyweight and is in jeopardy of losing his job in the UFC. His previous losses were to UFC legend Randy Couture and rising star Jon Jones.
Silva dominated all three rounds as Vera was overpowered by his ground and pound. Vera managed to connect with leg kicks in the first two rounds but Silva controlled the fight with heavier hits on the ground. The Brazilian brawler punished the Filipino-American fighter on the ground with elbows and punches to the head and body. By the end of the second round, Vera had no answer to Silva’s ground and pound and looked worn down.
Silva continued to control the third round, taking Vera’s back and hitting from behind. Even beore the bout ended, it was obvious that he had broken Vera’s nose.
All three judges scored it for Silva, who improved to 15-2. Vera dropped to 11-6 overall and may soon be cut by the promotion.
