The Ultimate Fighter Season 8 winner Ryan Bader has been overshadowed by the hype that Jon Jones has been getting. Both fighters are undefeated mixed martial arts fighters and gifted athletes. Jones has rolled past his opponents while Bader had to grind it out to earn his wins.
Bader faced a legendary fighter in Antonio Rogerio Nogueira at UFC 119 in Indianapolis on Saturday. Rogerio or Little Nog is a PRIDE Japan veteran and the twin brother of former PRIDE and UFC Interim heavyweight champion Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira.
Bader won by unanimous decision over Nogueira in what seems to be a tollgate for him to set up a fight against Jon Jones. Nogueira appeared tentative after a Bader takedown that sent him crashing to the mat. On several occasions, Bader connected with solid strikes as well, neutralizing Nogueira’s advantage in his boxing skills.
The undefeated Bader showed that he is no longer just a one-dimensional fighter. His strong wrestling background is a good base for an MMA career. His continuous development in the sport should make the 27-year old light heavyweight a face to watch in the heavily stacked weight class.
