Today, April 11, 2010, is the Feast of the Divine Mercy or simply called Divine Mercy Sunday. You can recall the image of Divine Mercy through the 3 o’clock prayer habit which shows Jesus Christ with rays of light emanating from His heart.
So what’s about Divine Mercy Sunday? Accordingly, Divine Mercy Sunday is based on the diary of a nun turned saint named Faustina stating that anyone who participates in the Mass and receives the sacraments of confession and Eucharist on this day is assured by Jesus of full remission of sins.
The Divine Mercy is one of Sister Faustina’s visions in which Jesus Christ showed to her wearing a white garment with a message of spreading the devotion of the Mercy of God.
According to the diary of Sister Faustina on page 699, Jesus made the following statements about this day of Divine Mercy Sunday:
“On that day the very depths of My tender mercy are open. I pour out a whole ocean of graces upon those souls who approach the fount of My mercy. The soul that will go to Confession and receive Holy Communion shall obtain complete forgiveness of sins and punishment. On that day all the divine floodgates through which grace flow are opened. Let no soul fear to draw near to Me, even though its sins be as scarlet. My mercy is so great that no mind, be it of man or of angel, will be able to fathom it throughout all eternity.”
