Team USA Barely Gets By Brazil At FIBA World Championship 2010
Team USA beat Brazil 70-68 on Monday at the FIBA World Championship in Turkey. The United States stayed unbeaten three games into the FIBA World Championship but Brazil showed that this team of NBA stars is not invincible. The game was in fact decided at the last second when Leandro Barbosa of Brazil missed his final shot that just rimmed out.
This recent win puts the United States on top of Group B. However, it exposed some things that the Americans need to work on.
Brazil was supposed to utilize its size advantage with Nene, Anderson Varejao and Tiago Splitter against a smaller US lineup. Injuries to Nene and Varejao forced Brazil to adjust and use speed instead in giving the Americans a run for their money. Brazil led most of the time in the first 30 minutes of the game until Lamar Odom gave team USA the lead on a dunk with about seven minutes left in the ballgame.
It was clear that the US squad could not pull away from a tough Brazilian team. It took another big game from Kevin Durant who scored 27 points and veteran Chauncey Billups
The United States may have tougher times ahead in their quest for a FIBA World Championship.Follow us on Twitter to get free up-to-date news via tweets from the World Correspondents, or you can subscribe to us by entering your e-mail below.
