Washington Redskins Defeat Philadelphia Eagles, 17-12

The Washington Redskins-Philadelphia Eagles game on Sunday was highly anticipated partly due to the Donovan McNabb-Michael Vick matchup. McNabb has played as an Eagle for a decade and was set to meet his former teammates and a new starting quarterback in Vick.

Michael Vick has made a successful return to football coming from an 18-month sentence. When the Atlanta Falcons released him, the Philadelphia Eagles signed Vick in August 2009 to play as backup to then starter McNabb.

With McNabb moving to Washington and fellow Eagles quarterback Kevin Kolb injured early in the season, Vick has taken over the starting quarterback role with good results so far.

The hype up matchup on Sunday, however, did not live up to expectations as Vick got injured early. Vick suffered from a rib cartilage injury that forced coach Andy Reid to play Kolb in the second half.

McNabb was also sparingly used, completing 8 of 19 passes for 125 yards, a touchdown and an interception as the Redskins defeated an Eagles team that failed to score a single touchdown, 17-12.

Two touchdowns in the first quarter gave the Redskins a comfortable lead, 14-0. A 26-yard Redskins field goal sandwiched by two Eagles field goals in the second quarter pegged the halftime score at 17-6.

A late touchdown by a Kevin Kolb pass to Brent Celek pushed the Eagles closer, 17-12, but time ran out on the Eagles.

Dallas Cowboys vs Washington Redskins NFL Match Scores, Results and Highlights

The game between the Washington Redskins and the Dallas Cowboys became the closing game for the 13-game Sunday of the NFL. The Redskins managed to pull away with a season opener victory, 13-7.

Donovan McNabb and the Redskins held off a Cowboys comeback in the game and that is thanks to a crucial Cowboys miscue on their final play. The Cowboys want to score an end game touchdown to score an upset against the Redskins but Alex Barron was called for holding. It was Dallas’ 12th penalty of the game.

Meanwhile the Washington Red Skins scored their only touchdown during the first half. Hall helped forced a fumble by Tashard Choice, scooped up the ball and somersaulted into the end zone for the Redskins.

This development meant that Donovan McNabb and coach Mike Shanahan are successful in their Redskins debuts. McNabb completed 15 of 32 passes for 171 yards for the Redskins (1-0) while Romo was 31 for 41 for 282 yards for the Cowboys (0-1).
