Kim Clijsters Easily Wins US Open 2010

Second seed Kim Clijsters only took 59 minutes to defend her US Open title against seventh seed Vera Zvonareva of Russia, 6-2, 6-1. Clijsters’ second consecutive US Open win makes her the first woman to accomplish the feat since Venus Williams won two in a row in 2000 and 2001. This latest win is Clijsters’ third US Open in her career.

Clijsters won her first US Open crown in 2005. She missed the 2006 tournament due to an injury. Clijsters also took time away from playing tennis when she got married and decided to start a family. She also missed the 2007 and 2008 US Open.

Clijsters broke serve twice in the first set. She only scored four winners but played well enough to draw 13 unforced errors from Zvonareva. Zvonareva made a total of 24 unforced errors against only 15 by the Clijsters.

The Belgian tennis star was just too much for the Russian finalist. Zvonareva is usually known to be emotional during matches. She kept her emotions in check in previous games, including her upset win over top seed Caroline Wozniacki in the semifinals. In her final match against Clijsters, she began losing her temper again and Clijsters capitalized on her shaky performance.

US Open 2010 Women’s Finals: Clijsters vs Zvonareva

US Open 2010 Women’s Finals Today: Clijsters vs Zvonareva – The US Open 2010 women’s finals will be held today at the Arthur Ashe Stadium, 7:00 PM. It will be a match between number 2 seed Kim Clijsters and number 7 seed Vera Zvonerava.

Clijsters demolished Venus Williams during the Semifinals yesterday in 3 sets. This is the second time in a row that Venus Williams had been eliminated in the US Open.

Here is a brief video highlights of the US Open 2010 game US Open Women’s Singles champion, Kim Clijsters and 2-time US Open champion Venus Williams.

Kim Clijsters will be up against a formidable opponent, Zvonerava who managed to win twice against her in their last two meetings at Wimbledon and Montreal quarters, both in three sets.

With this matchup, analysts are saying that Zvonereva has an edge over Clijsters. In overall rivalry standings, Zvonereva is ahead, 5-2, including a 6-4 in the third-set victory over the Russian back at the 2002 US Open. However, it seems that Clijsters had become the favorite during the US Open 2010 because she had shown a higher level of play and energy compared to Vera. Clijsters had also won the US Open twice already.

The match between the two will surely be a great watch. Meanwhile here are the remaining schedule for the US Open 2010:

Kim Clijsters Beats Venus Williams, Advances To US Open Finals

Kim Clijsters is one win away from defending her US Open Championship. The Belgian tennis star survived a three-set semifinal match against Venus Williams, 4-6, 7-6 (2), 6-4, to set up a title match against 7th seed Vera Zvonareva. Zvonareva defeated top seed Caroline Wozniacki earlier on Friday to advance as the other US Open finalist. Clijsters extended her winning streak to 20 matces at Flushing Meadows and is looking to repeat as champion, a first after Venus Williams won the US Open titles in 2000 and 2001.

Clijsters overcame a strong first set by Williams to win in three sets. The defending champion was trailing one set when she adjusted her position, moving closer to the baseline. Clijsters played with more consistency as Williams fell into a slump of seven double-faults and 50 unforced errors.

Clijsters has a slight edge, riding on the momentum of a good season. Zvonareva may not be a pushover either as she displayed that she can beat a solid and consistent player in Caroline Wozniacki. We will find out on Saturday if Clijsters keeps her title or Zvonareva makes up for her recent Wimbledon meltdown.

Zvonareva In Upset Win Against Wozniacki At US Open 2010 Semifinals

Seventh seed Vera Zvonareva of Russia stunned Danish top seed Caroline Wozniacki in two sets, 6-4, 6-3, to advance to the US Open finals on Saturday. Wozniacki was on her way to a second straight finals appearance at Flushing Meadows but Zvonareva had other plans.

The hard-hitting Russian pushed Wozniacki to the baseline most of the time, using a deadly combination of power and precision that pushed the 20-year old top seed into a series of errors. Wozniacki has played consistently well prior to the semifinals but it seemed that Zvonareva got her number by dominating from the start.

Zvonareva broke serve in the third game to take a 2-1 lead in the first set. She survived two break points in the fourth game to pull away at 3-1. Zvonareva held on to the lead, winning all her three service games to take the first set.

Wozniacki took the first game of the second set but dropped the next two to trail 2-1. The 20-year old top seed then pulled even but Zvonareva took the next two to lead 4-2, serving out to finish the match.

Zvonareva is set to play in her second Grand Slam final after Wimbledon against the winner of the other semifinal match between Kim Clijsters and Venus Williams.

Venus Williams Defeats Francesca Schiavone At US Open 2010

Venus Williams seems to be the last person distracted by her flambuoyant tennis outfit. Venus defeated Francesca Schiavone, 7-6 (5), 6-4, despite nine double faults. So much hype was built around her flashy tennis dresses but third seeded Venus just let her game take over to advance to the semifinals of the US Open at Flushing Meadows.

The last time Venus played in a US Open semifinal match was in 2007. She has won seven Grand Slams that include the 2000 and 2001 US Open titles. It has been eight years since she last played in a title match at Flushing Meadows.

Her recent win was not an easy one against the reigning French Open champ but she has proven that there is more to Venus Williams than her “distracting” tennis outfits.

Venus is the only American player left in the Grand Slam tourney. Fellow American Sam Querrey lost a five set match to Stanislas Wawrinka of Switzerland in men’s tennis earlier.

US Open 2010 Tennis: Men’s Semifinals Results and Highlights

US Open 2010 Tennis: Mens Semifinals Results and Highlights – Interesting development at the US Open 2010 Tennis Mens Semifinals today. Number 3 seed Novak Djokovic defeated Number 2 seed and five-time US Open champion Roger Federer to advance to the US Open 201 Finals against number 1 seed Rafael Nadal.

It was a long time coming for Djokovic to take a revenge against Federer for his 2007 finals and 2008 and 2009 semifinals lost to him. It was a very exciting match which reached the fifth set. Djokovic served at 4-5, 15-40 during the fifth set in a match that ended in a 5-7, 6-1, 5-7, 6-2, 7-5 win.

This is the first time in the last six years that Federer will not be appearing in the US Open Finals. The finals will feature Novak Djokovic vs Rafael Nadal.

Rafael Nadal’s semifinal game against Russia’s Mikhail Youzhny was easier, he won the match with straight set wins, 6-2, 6-3, 6-4. With his win, Nadal becomes just the sixth man in the Open Era to reach the finals of all four Grand Slams, and, at 24, the second-youngest.

Nadal and Youzhny had become familiar foes in the tennis court. The two had met 11 times previously and Youzhny manage to win four times against Nadal. With Youzhny’s performance in the US Open 2010 he will surely be in the Top 10 of the world tennis ranking for the first time since 2008.
