Miami Heat forward Udonis Haslem just made news in a manner that may adversely create an impact on the Miami Heat. Haslem was arrested on Sunday for speeding, illegal car window tinting and possession of marijuana. He was driving his 2008 Mercedes Benz at 78 miles per hour in a 60 miles per hour zone when he was apprehended at around 3 p.m.
The apprehending officer became suspicious when the apprehended vehicle smelled like marijuana. A search of the vehicle yielded about 20 grams of marijuana that Haslem’s companion Antwain Fleming claimed to be his and not Haslem’s. At 10 p.m. of the same day, Haslem was released without certainty if he would face charges just like Fleming.
This may affect the Heat as Haslem could be suspended early in the season for this misdemeanor.
The Miami Heat of the NBA have just formed one of the strongest teams on paper in the offseason with LeBron James and Chris Bosh joining Dwayne Wade. Role players have been signed to beef up their roster from the free agent pool to support the Heat’s big three.
Udonis Haslem and Dwayne Wade have been playing together in Miami for the last seven years. They have been part of the Miami Heat that won only 15 games in the 2008 NBA season. Now that the Heat has its own version of the big three in Wade, LeBron James and Chris Bosh, they are instant contenders. The three NBA superstars have agreed to a pay cut for an opportunity to play together, making it so much easier for Haslem to decide to stay where he really wants to. There are also unofficial reports that Haslem’s friend Mike Miller has agreed to join the Heat. Haslem and Miller played together as Florida Gators.
Now Haslem is re-signing with the Miami Heat even if he stands to earn less than what other teams have to offer. This, Haslem says, would be an opportunity for another championship run and at the same time be where he wants to be… to stay close to home.
Four-time NBA All Star Anfernee Hardaway has reportedly expressed interest coming out of retirement to suit up for the Miami Heat. This comes after the Heat has built their own big three composed of talented young superstars Dwayne Wade, LeBron James and Chris Bosh. Now just about everyone else wants to join a team that is expected to go all the way to win an NBA ring.
Udonis Haslem and Mike Miller, former teammates with the Florida Gators, have reunited in Miami taking in less than what they could potentially earn elsewhere to play with the elite trio. Add Zydrunas Ilgauskas and Juwan Howard to the roster of players aspiring for a ring as well.
The difference between these role players and Penny Hardaway is that they can still contribute on the floor. Penny at most would be an asset in the locker room sharing his wisdom and experience to motivate teammates.
Yes, Penny was one of the best players of his time. However, this comes off as a joke as he has not been actively playing for years now.
