If the movie Slumdog Millionaire was last year’s movie which swept the most Oscars Awards, this year, the movie “The Hurt Locker” did it sweeping 6 Oscars 2010 Awards.
A lot of movie fans were shocked as the movie “Avatar” was defeated by the movie “The Hurt Locker” in a lot of categories.
In fact, “The Hurt Locker” topped the Oscars 2010 Awards getting 6 category awards as it won Best Director, Best in Film Editing, Best Motion Picture, Best in Sound Editing, Best in Sound Mixing, and Best Original Screenplay. This is against Avatar’s winning only 3 Oscars 2010 Awards as it won Best in Art Direction, Best in Cinematography, and Best in Visual Effects.
Interestingly, the two films which are contenders for the most number of Oscars 2010 Awards have a connection in that The Hurt Locker Director Kathryn Bigelow was the former wife of Avatar’s Director James Cameron.
Personally, I have already watched the movie “Avatar” and I could say that it’s one of the best movies I saw. No wonder why it topped the charts as one of the highest grossing film. However, I haven’t watched the movie “The Hurt Locker”.
Some movie reviews to “The Hurt Locker” said that the film was overly emotional and overrated and that it didn’t deserve to win a lot of Oscars 2010 Awards against Avatar. Well, upon topping the Oscars 2010 Awards list, I am now interested to see it also to know if it’s really worth winning the 6 Oscars Awards that it got.
Once and for all, everyone has been expecting James Cameron to be the Best Director for Avatar, but his ex-wife Kathryn Bigelow got it for her The Hurt Locker.
Though the battle is not only between the two of them but among nominees, Cameron and Bigelow has a more personal connection. Cameron was married 5 times and one of those 5 marriages was to Kathryn Bigelow (1989 to1991).
Before the announcement of winners took place, Cameron’s Avatar and Bigelow’s The Hurt Locker lead the pack with nine nominations each but in the end Bigelow’s Hurt Locker got most of the Oscars. The Hurt Locker got 6, which includes Best Director, Best Picture, Best Film Editing, Best Original Screenplay, Best Sound Mixing, Best Sound Editing while Avatar only had 3; Best Art Direction, Best Cinematography, and Best Visual Effects.
Nonetheless, both film makers made their history, Cameron has the Highest Grossing Film of All time while Bigelow became the first female Best Director in the history of the Academy Awards.
As we all know, The Hurt Locker dominated the 82nd Academy Awards. This is really unexpected because first of all, only a few movie buffs watched The Hurt Locker. Another reason is that Avatar is the highest grossing film of all time, and last but not the list, everybody loves Avatar.
Just like Slumdog Millionaire last year, everybody is eyeing for Slumdog Millionaire and a lot expected that it will win and be proclaimed as the best film, and it was the Best Film in the 2009 Oscars.
But this year, the expectation of many didn’t come true. Someone out there is better than the movie Avatar and that is The Hurt Locker.
So that’s it. Congratulations to The Hurt Locker for defeating the Blue Aliens of Pandora.
The recently concluded 82nd Academy Awards has just awarded Kathryn Bigelow as the Best Director for the film The Hurt Locker. Aside from that she became the first woman whoever got such award in the history of Oscars. Among her contenders in the Best Director category is her Ex-husband James Cameron who has been so famous lately for the success of his film Avatar. Once again, both personalities, Bigelow and Cameron are nominated in the Best Picture category wherein Bigelow bagged the win. She is the fourth woman in history of Oscars and only the second American woman to be nominated for the honor.
Bigelow also won the Best Film and Best Director at the 2010 British Academy Film Awards. Her film Hurt Locker has bagged 6 awards in the Academy Awards which includes Best Director, Best Motion Picture, Best Film Editing, Best Original Screenplay, Best Sound Editing, Best Sound Mixing.
Finally, the winners of the 82nd Academy Awards has been officially announced and released. Many movie fanatics didn’t expect the results of this year’s Oscars. Just like Avatar fans, they really expected that Avatar will be the one who will receive most awards, specially the 2010 Best Film, but The Hurt Locker defeated the Blue Aliens from Pandora.
To be honest, I haven’t seen The Hurt Locker yet. I think it’s a good movie. I should be watching it when I went to Singapore last year, but time didn’t allow me to.
This year, I was surprised that they’ve dominated the Oscars 2010. This victory enticed me to watch The Hurt Locker and judge the movie myself if it really deserves on stomping out of Avatar from its destiny.
