157th Ohio State Fair Features Great Musical Performances

The 157th Ohio State Fair has kicked off this morning, beginning with ribbon-cutting rites by Governor Ted Strickland. This 12-day event features traditional fairground activities plus other new activities that may bring in new crowd as well.

The butter cow and calf sculptures now have company, being the butter sculptures of NFL stars Joe Thomas of the Cleveland Browns and Chinedum Ndukwe of the Cincinnati Bengals.

Boxing, wrestling and mixed martial arts matches are just some of the sporting events during the fair. Agriculture and livestock shows would still attract the traditional crowd of families and friends. The OSU dance team is also slated to perform short dance numbers to showcase their talent, school spirit and Buckeye pride.

With “Fairtastic” as its theme, there is a series of concerts from high-profile music performers. Unfortunately, Selena Gomez will no longer be performing due to some health issues but the roster of performers is still star-studded. Weezer, Darius Rucker, Jeff  Dunham, Jeremy Camp, Devo, Kenneth “Babyface” Edmonds, Rascal Flats, Heart, George Duke and David Sanborn comprise the list of performers expected to bring in more people to the fair.

On a yearly basis, about 800,000 visitors troop to the fair that reminds them that Ohio is a good place to live in.
