Kentucky Derby 2010 Cocktail Drink: Mint Julep Recipe

Have you heard the drink called Mint Julep? Accordingly, Mint Julep is the traditional beverage drink of the Kentucky Derby since 1938. Everytime a Kentuck Derby is held every year, around 120,000 Mint Juleps are served to participants and spectators at Churchill Downs.

Among various recipes of Mint Julep, the Early Times Mint Julep has been considered as the designated “official mint julep of the Kentucky Derby”.

Having said that, people who are currently watching the current Kentucky Derby 2010 is looking for some nice Mint Julep recipes to be served. We here at World Correspondents have found a Mint Julep recipe for you to try out:

Mint Julep Ingredients:

4 fresh mint sprigs
2 1/2 oz bourbon whiskey
1 tsp powdered sugar
2 tsp water

Mint Julep Instructions:

Muddle mint leaves, powdered sugar, and water in a collins glass. Fill the glass with shaved or crushed ice and add bourbon. Top with more ice and garnish with a mint sprig. Serve with a straw.

Alternatively, some people suggested that rather than including powdered sugar and water, they use a simple syrup. Just boil some plain granulated sugar in water at the beginning of summer and keep it in a jar in the fridge.

Meanwhile, you can also refer to this youtube video on how to prepare a Mint Julep cocktail. Look for the recipe and ingredients used by the one demonstrating below:
