Storm Chaser Matt Hughes Death Shocked Fans

November 4, 2010 by · 1 Comment

Discovery Channel’s star of “Storm Chasers” Matt Hughes, a meteorologist, passed away at a very young age of 30.

Having the zealous passion of storm-chasing suggests that Smith’s death was not related to his extreme hobby.

Smith dies on May 26,2010 in Witchita,Kansas but was only discovered by his fans yesterday (November 3 2010) wherein the show featured an episode in dedication to his memory.

Little is known surrounding the cause of death. ‘Storm chasing’ is essentially the act of pursuing an extreme weather condition for adventure, scientific exploration, or for media coverage. Hughes and his team were particularly drawn to ‘chasing’ tornados, and in last night’s episode Hughes led his team to what the Discovery Channel called ‘their best tornado intercept ever’

Hughes was an experienced chaser and joined the team during the 2009 tornado season, he is survived by his wife Kendra and two boys, Hunter and Collin. A memorial fund has been established to benefit Hughes’ children.

Los Angeles Times reported about his death.
