Salon-goers Beware: Jennifer Aniston And Several Others Scammed by Salon Owner
Maria Gabriella Perez, owner of Chez Gabriella Studio, was arrested on Wednesday on charges of stealing credit card information from Jennifer Aniston, Anne Hathaway and Liv Tyler and using said credit card information to run up tens of thousands of fraudulent transactions on these celebrities’ accounts.
A witness claimed that even Cher, Melanie Griffith and Scott Speedman were also victimized by Perez. (Representatives of Cher have already denied via TMZ that she is a victim of this fraudulent scheme.)
According to court documents, Perez is accused of swindling $214,000 from Liv Tyler alone in a five-month period last year.
Perez is said to have used the credit card information provided by celebrities and other clients for legitimate services availed at her salon, but later entered the details manually to run up the unauthorized charges.
So a word of caution, no matter which salon you go to, make sure to go through your credit card statements with a fine-toothed comb. Better yet, just do so every time those monthly statements come in whether you go to a salon or not. Not being a celebrity is not an assurance that you are scam-proof.Follow us on Twitter to get free up-to-date news via tweets from the World Correspondents, or you can subscribe to us by entering your e-mail below.
