“RapeLay” Video Game Goes Viral Despite of International Outrage

RapeLay is a 3D sex simulation game in Japan developed by Illusion. It faced a international outrage simply because it does no good to its players. The game is one of the Hentai games that it can even be downloaded for free in some websites. The game’s plot circles in a man who is seeking revenge to girl who alleged him of molesting her. He returned to the girl to seek revenge including her sister and mother. In the game, the player can make choose moves on how to molest the characters. It was legally released in Japan in 2006

It sparked international outrage from women’s groups. Taina Bien-Aime helped yank the game off store shelves worldwide.
“This was a game that had absolutely no place on the market,” said Taina Bien-Aime of women’s rights organization Equality Now which has campaigned for the game to be taken off the shelves. It was in 2009 that Illusion discontinued supporting Rapelay due to controversy surrounding it in the United States. In 2008, amazon.com came under fire for offering it on their website. A flurry of negative press articles and protests soon followed. Amazon immediately removed and banned it.

Despite outrage that has been happening, the video game even went viral. There has been websites wherein you can even download it for free. Japan does have censorship laws for sexual content. In games and videos, genitalia are obscured, even if it is animated. But Japan’s laws do not restrict the themes and ideas of the games. A national law that would make possession of real and virtual images of child porn illegal is under discussion, but no serious legislation has moved forward in Japan’s parliament.

Things like really needs proper parental supervision especially to those gaming minors. Technology can bring you to both sides of the world, the moral and the immoral. There should be proper restrictions and censorship.
