Michelle Wie, an American golfer, withdrew from the Lorena Ochoa Invitational, a golf tournament for professional female golfers on the LPGA Tour, due to her back injury.
After shooting a 6-over par 78, Wie said “I was very excited to be here, but unfortunately I can’t play anymore. I’m going to see the doctor [today] and hope to make it feel better. We took an MRI and I have two little cysts near my spine and a little disc bulge. It’s nothing major, but it’s just something I can’t play with right now.”
Wie, 21 years old, was named in Time Magazine as “one of 100 people who shape our world”. She is of South Korean descent and of American citizenship by birth.
