PGA 2010 Championship: Martin Kaymer Just Did It!
The young golfer Martin Kaymer, just become the champion of this year’s PGA. He happily embraced his wife after knowing he just won at the Whistling Straits. He just become the second German to win a major next to Bernhard Langer. He rank rank advanced to 5th in the world and third in the Ryder Cup standings for Europe.
The game was between Kaymer and Bubba Watson after Dustin Johnson got a 2-stroke penalty assessed on the final hole. Kaymer fell behind when Watson birdied the first hole, but tied it with a birdie at the 17th (the second playoff hole). Kaymer won with a bogey at the 18th after Watson’s approach found a hazard.
At the young age of 25, he just became the youngest golfer to win a major since Tiger Woods was the same age in 2001. Considering that he’s from Germany wherein golf is not that popular, this win is truly a great one. In his country golf is only recreational and not a sport. There may be a lot of golfers but only few are taking it seriously.
“It’s very important for Germany. He’s got a great head on his shoulders. He’s still very young, but he is much more mature than his age. He’s got good looks, a great temperament and it would be wonderful for not only if he were to win this major but also to get in the Ryder Cup,” said fellow German golfer Bernhard Langer.
