Oprah Not Paying for Audiences’ Trip to Australia
Despite of her wealth and generosity, Oprah Winfrey will not be paying for the trip to Australia of 300 Oprah Winfrey Show audiences.
But the £1.8 million bill for the 300 audience members who will be flown over to Sydney in December, will be footed by the state of New South Wales and Australia’s tourism department – despite the criticism from local taxpayers.
Politicians insist the trip will lure a huge amount of tourists to their shores.
Tourism Minister Martin Ferguson said, “This truly represents an amazing opportunity to showcase Australia, the warmth and hospitality of our people and the depth and breadth of everything our country has to offer visitors from around the world…Tourism Australia is finally getting it together. We as a nation will win as a result of this coup.”
The trip Down Under was announced during her September 13 show to celebrate Oprah Show’s 25th and final season.Follow us on Twitter to get free up-to-date news via tweets from the World Correspondents, or you can subscribe to us by entering your e-mail below.
