New Tiger Woods’ Nike Ad Commercial Generates Mixed Reactions

November 3, 2014 by · 28 Comments

Probably among all the Nike commercials of Tiger Woods, this new Nike commercial involving his dead father Earl Woods is one of the most controversial.

Accordingly, the new Nike commercial is a black and white ad that includes a serious Tiger Woods’ face staring on the camera while his father’s voice Earl Woods, is being played on the background telling him something important which goes:

“Tiger, I am more prone to be inquisitive, to promote discussion. I want to find out what your thinking was. I want to find out what your feelings are. Did you learn anything?”

In my own opinion, this new Nike commercial is a way of showing a father’s concern to his son. It looks like that Earl Woods here would like to talk to his son regarding the recent controversies concerning his illicit affairs with several women, in which the most recent is that of Raychel Courdiet. Tiger Woods’ father is asking him if he learned something about it.

The black and white color is used in this new Nike commercial to show that the conversation did not happen on a present time since Earl Woods is already dead.

Some critics say that this new Nike commercial is Tiger Woods’ way of capitalizing with the infidelity issues concerning him. How about you, what do you think of this new Nike commercial by Tiger Woods?

Watch Tiger Woods’ new Nike commercial below and tell me what you think.

Wow what a creepy commercial. Invoking the dead adulterer to I don’t know what the He$$ for. Tiger is so narcissistic it’s amazing. He hasn’t learned anything.

  2. Jim says:

Tiger is the man. Put his personal life aside and concentrate on what his is famous for.

  3. Sara says:

Well said Jim… who freaking cares about his personal life.. move on.

  4. Judy Gartley says:

there is no mention of Tiger’s father, I am so angry at Nike over this,… It sounds like your questioning him about his curent situation.. my first reaction was that I hope he throws you to the curb like it sounds like you did.. and I want to discontinue buying your product…. better fix this!!!

  5. LINDA GREEN says:

WATCHED YOUR NEW NIKE COMMERCIAL W/TIGER AND HIS FATHER’S VOICE. THINK THAT IS A VERY IGNORANT COMMERCIAL. HE’S DONE WHAT HE’S DONE AND LET’S MOVE ON. TO USE HIS FATHERS VOICE AND WHAT HE SAYS, IS IGNORANT, AS HIS FATHER DID THE SAME CHEATING ON HIS WIVES THAT TIGER HAS DONE. IT’S TIME THE NEWS MEDIA FINDS SOMETHING ELSE TO TALK ABOUT, EVERYONE IS TIRED OF HEARING THE SAME NEWS OVER AND OVER AND OVER. ALL YOU AND THE NEWS MEDIA IS DOING IS GIVING THOSE MISTRESSES MORE ATTENTION, WHICH THEY DON’T DESERVE AND KEEPING IT IN FRONT OF HIS WIFE AND CHILDREN.

THERE ARE SO MANY GOOD AND HONEST PLAYERS IN THE PGA, MAYBE IT’S TIME YOU USE THEM IN YOUR COMMERCIALS AND LET TIGER GO. AND PLEASE DON’T BRING HIS FATHER INTO ANYMORE OF YOUR COMMERCIALS AS HE DIDN’T SET A VERY GOOD EXAMPLE FOR HIS FAMILY. TIGER LOOKS PATHETIC IN THAT COMMERCIAL.

AS FAR AS I’M CONCERNED, TIGER HAS MADE A CIRCUS OUT OF THE MASTERS TOURNAMENT, WHICH I ALWAYS CONSIDERED IT THE #1 TOURNAMENT TO WATCH. THE OTHER PGA PLAYERS DON’T DESERVE ALL THE NEWS MEDIA BEING ON TIGER. IT SHOULD BE THEIR TIME IN THE SPOTLIGHT – NOT HIS.

I ACTUALLY WOULDN’T BUY ANY OF YOUR PRODUCTS NOW BECAUSE OF THAT PATHETIC COMMERCIAL. REALLY DONE IN POOR TASTE. BETTER HIRE NEW ADVERTISING PEOPLE.

  6. john butcher says:

The same media that promotes overtly sex sex sex then judges a person for embracing that value is the opitime of hypocricy. We might as well make jesse jackson our ultimate example of a moral person and all try to be like him. Tiger is an athelete, not a person to model ourselves after or to stand in judgement of him in a public arena. He does what he is supposed to do very well, entertain us.

  7. brooke says:

Wow, to discontinue buying a brand’s product over a commercial is a little over-reactive. I personally could care less about him or the commercial, and I work for Nike. Get over it… it’s just a commercial, not a movie or television programming bashing his personal life. Some people take some things a little too far. It’s not your life they are broadcasting, so just get over it!

  8. richard says:

John Butcher’s statement above is very insightful–how ironic it is that our culture is obsessed with, and promotes sex, but has no empathy for someone who was unfaithful.

  9. Troy says:

@LINDA GREEN – YOU’RE CLEARLY NOT NIKE’S TARGET AUDIENCE FOR THIS COMMERCIAL. IT WOULD BE FINE TO USE THE HONEST PLAYERS IN THE PGA IF NIKE WERE TRYING TO SELL MORALS, BUT THEY’RE SELLING GOLF EQUIPMENT—SO THEY’RE USING THE BEST GOLFER TO EVER SWING A CLUB. OH AND please turn off your caps lock, I felt like you were yelling your post.

@brooke – You can’t possibly play a very important role at Nike if you don’t care about Tiger Woods or this commercial. He’s the highest profile athlete in the world and Nike’s #1 endorser. Maybe you work at a NIKETOWN? Either way, I agree that people should get over Tiger Woods’ scandals.

I recently wrote a post on my blog about this commercial and opinions on it. Check it out: troysadblog.blogspot.com

  10. Ram says:

Tiger ….. life goes on, make the best of it. This is a borrowed life from God and the best use of it…..but the best use is what u think is right. Good luck in the masters…. your eagles speak for itself. Go Tiger Go…. Ram from Australia

  11. APC says:

Gives the slogan “Just Do It” a whole new meaning, no?

  12. Heathe says:

I still don’t understand exactly what this ad has to do with Nike at all other than Tiger is wearing a Nike cap and shirt. Why is it a Nike ad? It has NOTHING to do with Nike. “I’m more prone” to call it a PSA for fidelity. (Not the bank)

  13. Janice says:

Exactly what is going on here? Tiger Woods is young, rich, probably well-hung, and slept with whores. Why are we making such a big issue of this. Sure he’s married but, a lot, and I mean a lot of married men AND women cheat on their spouse. Let’s forget about individuals sexual life. It is TOO MUCH INFORMATION.

  14. SusieQ says:

Go Tiger, Go Tiger, Go Tiger….BLAH BLAH BLAH!!! Whatever… (sung to the tune of, that’s what i’m talkin bout)…

  15. Kelly says:

I think it’s ridiculous that Nike made this commercial. Tiger Woods is a pig and along with boycotting him, I will boycott Nike.

  16. Be Smart says:

The person who mentioned ignorance IS ignorant. Do you know how many men have cheated on their wives on this planet? Um, let me answer . . . I don’t give a good flyin doo-doo. It has absolutely nothing to do with his golfing talent. He still reamins one of the best players on this Earth. Can you say that about yourself? Um . . NO! You must be a very young person to even make that statement. I will still continue to wear Nike, as a matter of fact, I had a very classy shirt on yesterday. Nike clothes are well made. Just like Ralpy Lauren and Calvin Klein. Are you going to stop wearing a brand because they’re are pitching for the other team? I will still support Tiger, because he is a beast on the course. You sound very jaded and unintelligent. I am not stating that all men cheat. There is a small percentage that actually like being with their wives. Oh, by the way, if you knew anything about his relationship with his wife, you would know that she knew about is promiscuity before she married him. As a matter of fact, she made a comment (dumb ass) saying that she asked him to stop! STUPID! You cannot ask a man to stop cheating Albert Einstein. He has to want to stop cheating. The wife was just a uneducated nanny who saw many dollar signs. She received what she asked for and she SHOULD stay with him because her dumb ass knew he was a cheater before she tied the not. Just dumb!

I think it is absolutely ridiculous to stop fancing Nike because Tiger cheated on his wife. You must be a victim of infidelty yourself, Brooke.

  17. Be Smart says:

Sorry Brooke, I meant to direct my comment toward Linda. I don’t think that NIKE is really cares if he cheated or not, Troy. It’s obvious because he still promotes their brand. They are just using the scandal to promote their name. Brooke is right. Small-minded individuals are choosing to boycott Nike. It’s just stupid to do so. You all act like Tiger is the first person to cheat. WE really live in a ridiculous world when it comes to this situation, because people act like Tiger’s cheating is big news. I think Jesse James’ situation is worst. I feel so sorry for that woman. My husband said, “nobody wanted Sally Bullock anyway!” HE was being mean. I like Sandra Bullock, however, most men that I’ve encountered said they would not marry her. I don’t know why?

  18. Kevin says:

tiger does not write his commercials. Tiger does not “Hire his advertising people.”

if the commercial upsets you, blame nike, not tiger

  19. BrianThe Pilot says:

I think the Nike ad is disgraceful. So are all the fans here and everywhere else who are cheering and championing Tiger. Is everyone so in love with golf and the money Tiger generates that they’ve forgotten that this man cheated on his wife, not once, but had numerous affairs? I have no problem with Tiger returning to the PGA Tour and whatever it takes for his marriage to survive. I welcome that. What I don’t get is the cheering fans at the Masters and all the adoring fans on these blogs. Would you be on Tigers side if your spouse had cheated on you for years?

  20. Steve L. says:

This pretty much sums it up nicely for me: http://bit.ly/bGdYin

  21. KSR says:

This is a very touching commercial and well put together. Tiger is a great athlete and one of the best. His personal life and professional life should have stayed separate from the beginning. Shame on the media for blowing it out of proportion and shame on all the small brain hypocrites out there pointing fingers at him when many of them and their idols do the same exact thing…and worse. I doubt a wrestling superstar would get any attention if such a thing happened to them.
Those pointing the fingers are the true losers and need to get a life instead of harassing Tiger. I praise NIKE for picking him back up again.

  22. He's a jackass! says:

    Ditto to Brian the Pilot

  23. Be Smart says:

Phil Mickelson will never be ‘Tiger Woods’ on the golf course. NEVER! The man is a joy to watch. It’s obvious that more people support him and respect his profession. They talked about Jesus….Keep personal business private. Look at the dumb senator that cheated on his wife with a woman who he claimed was his soulmate…blah blah blah. He had the nerve to tell the whole world that crap, after being with his wife all those years and having numerous children. What an idiot!!! What do you think about his situation? Are politicians and other persons excluded from the bashing? Or do you just want to hang on to Tiger. At least Tiger didn’t say those women were his soulmates…blah blah blah.

What about John Edwards? Should I go on….blah blah blah!

  24. SusieQ says:

PSALM 5 VERSE 9 (for all those w/o sin)…oh, and have a beautiful, wonderful, stress free day…it’s spring folks 🙂

  25. SusieQ says:

P.S Who gives a rats pa-2-dee who ANY man, whether he is famous or not is sleeping with. Unless he is MY husband I DONT CARE. Enough is enough. What buisness is it of anyones except him and his wifes?? Quit trying to make yourselves out to be sin free by crying about a complete strangers sexual activities…I like to watch a good athlete at any sports on tv and dont care what he or she does before or after the game…GET A LIFE and stop complaining…P.S Have a great day!!
