NBA free agent Matt Barnes just signed a $3.6 million contract for two years with the defending champion Los Angeles Lakers. This is much lower than what the Cleveland Cavaliers and Toronto Raptors could possibly offer but Barnes wanted more money from a team that has no championship potential.
Adding Barnes to the Lakers roster that already has Ron Artest gives the defending champions a much tougher look Matt Barnes has the versatility to play different roles on both ends of the court. Barnes may not be taking a lot of three-pointers with the Lakers like he did with the Phoenix Suns and Orlando Magic.
On defense, Barnes will be a major contributor although he may not be as skilled defensively as Artest. What he may lack in skills, he will surely compensate with hard work. Being versatile at the wings, he can shoot from outside, grab rebounds, defend well and finish on a fastbreak.
It looks like the Lakers got themselves a good bargain in Matt Barnes.
