The outcome of the rematch between Juan Manuel Marquez and Juan Diaz was not expected to be a lopsided victory for Marquez. The decision win for Marquez was clearly a message that he deserves another fight date with pound for pound king Manny Pacquaio.
The rematch on Saturday night in Las Vegas showed a sharper than ever Marquez who is in excellent physical condition even as he turns 37 next month.
However, roadblocks to a third fight with Pacquiao will prevent this from happening. Manny Pacquiao is currently negotiating for a November fight with fellow Top Rank boxer Antonio Maragarito. This appears to be the most feasible fight for the promotion after a failed attempt at staging a huge payday in a Manny Paquiao versus Floyd Mayweather Jr megafight.
Top Rank promoter Bob Arum would rather keep the earnings in-house as he sets up a fight between two Top Rank boxers Pacquiao and Margarito.
Arum may feel that a Pacquiao-Marquez 3 match would give Marquez a free ride to a big payday. It is quite sad to see that although Marquez is on eof the best pound for pound boxers, he does not command a hefty pay each fight like Pacquiao and Mayweahter would.
It would be great to see Pacquiao and Marquez in the ring once again. This would be an opportunity for boxing purists and casual fans to witness two fearless fighters in the ring. Mayweather may bring in the money but he is never known to be someone willing to mix it up like Pacquiao and Marquez would.
