On a nasty Friday, a 5-under par 67 just placed 27-year old Louis Oosthuizen at the top spot in the British Open. The South African golfer has a total of 12-under par 132 after 36 holes which gives him a 5-stroke lead over Mark Calcavecchia who is at second for now with a score of 7-under par 137. Paul Casey and Lee Westwood are tied at third with 6-under par 138.
While the Old Course at St. Andrews was defenseless in the first round, conditions in the second round was a stark contrast.
Oosthuizen, the gap-toothed Ernie Els student is known to friends as “Shrek”, the ogre character in the hit animated film of the same name. Just like the ogre, Oosthuizen kept a monster game with seven birdies that was capped by a 15-foot birdie putt on the 18th hole.
Heading into the last 36 holes, all eyes will be on “Shrek” if he can keep his composure and avoid any major disaster.
