Lady Gaga is known the world over for her outlandish outfits, but her meat outfit for the VMA has got to take the cake as far as outlandish outfits go. Even Bjork who is also known for her “weird” red carpet ensembles (remember her goose outfit) won’t be able to hold a candle next to her.
Anyway, for those who raised a howl of disbelief and/or disgust at what Lady Gaga was wearing, here is her explanation to Ellen DeGeneres (a known Vegan) as to why she wore what she wore: It is a political statement.
Lady Gaga said had been escorted to the Nokia Theater in Los Angeles by members of the U.S. military who had been discharged from the service due to the Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell policy, and she felt she had to stand up for them. She said, “It is a devastation to me that I know my fans who are gay … feel like they have governmental oppression on them. That’s actually why I wore the meat tonight.”
Obviously, Ellen was not buying her explanation and offered Lady Gaga a vegetable bikini and skirt made of corn husks instead.
All I can say is, it must have felt gross to wear meat. I cook on a regular basis and I know how raw meat feels and how it still drips blood no matter how much you wring it. Eeeewww!
