Lady Antebellum’s Hello Heart to Hello World

Lady Antebellum’s song Hello World, performed on CMA Awards 2010, was originally called “Hello Heart” 15 years ago.

Songwriter David Lee on Tom Douglas “Tom’s great. He was on Lady A’s, ‘I Run to You.’ He actually had the idea to change this song to ‘Hello World,’ because we couldn’t get the rhyme right. ‘Hello Heart’ didn’t have the feel. Tom got a hold of it and started messing around with it on his piano. Then he called me and said, “Hey, what about, ‘Hello World?'” He also had an idea to change the first verse….If Tom Douglas and Tony Lane hadn’t helped me, this song wouldn’t be what it is, that’s for sure. It really did turn it into something, but I had this song idea so long ago that I’d just forgotten about it. It’s a big ballad, the song they close their show with. It’s really powerful. It’s one of those kind of songs you could see being a world kind of thing: a big song. I’m really proud of it, and really excited about it.”

Hello World Lyrics

Traffic cars, cell phone calls
Top video screams at me
Through my tender window I see
A little girl, rust red minivan
She’s got chocolate on her face
Got little hands, And she waves at me
Ya, She smiles at me

Hello World
How’ve you been
Good to see you, my old friend
Sometimes I feel, cold as steel
Broken like I’m never gonna heal
I see a light, little hole
In the little world

Hello world
Every day I drive by
A little white church
It’s got these little white crosses
Like angels in the yard
Maybe I should stop on in
Say a prayer
Maybe talk to God
Like he is here
Oh I know he is there
Ya, I know he’s there

Hello world
How’ve you been
Good to see you, my old friend
Sometimes I feel as cold as steel
And broken like I’m never going to heal
I see a light
Little grace, little faith for the world
Hello world

Sometimes I forget what living’s for
And I hear my life through my front door
And I’ll be there
Oh I’m home again
I see my wife, little boy, little girl
Hello world
Hello world

All the angels disappears
I remember why I’m here
Just surrender and believe
I fall down on my knees
Oh hello world
Hello world
