Labor Day Weekend 2010: The Tier 5 Extension Update and Call – It had been a month since President Barack Obama signed the Unemployment Extension Bill to help unemployed Americans but there is one piece of provision that was removed and left unattended. The Tier 5 extension provision for 99ers was left hanging and no one wants to support it. Republicans says that it is because the Democrats refuse to use stimulus money and some Dems says that it is too costly.
The thing is would the government just let more than 1.4 million Americans who belong to the 99ers group become victims of a recession which is not their own doing? Should they be and their family be left to the mercy of charitable organizations and meal stubs just to survive daily?
Latest information from the US Senate said that Senator Harry Reid refuses to put the Tier 5 Extension Bill on the agenda for September 13. The reason for such a refusal is because the majority of Republican Senators and a few Democrat stalwarts are opposed to the bill.
It is a welcome development that President Barack Obama in his Iraq speech last August 31 announced the end of combat hostilities in Iraq and the focus of the government now shifting to domestic problems especially the growing unemployment in the United States. The average unemployment rate across the United States is now above 9% and technically every State qualifies for unemployment benefits.
For 99ers the only hope now is on the American Wants to Work Act endorse by Sen. Stabenow of Michigan. It would be a fitting gift to 99ers and the unemployed during the Labor Day Weekend 2010. This act provides for three essential provisions which will not only give Tier 5 extension to 99ers but also help to other unemployed. These provisions are:
- Creating an additional tier of benefits for those who have exhausted their unemployment insurance.
- Extending the successful HIRE Act payroll tax exemption through the end of 2011.
- Doubling the general business tax credit to encourage businesses to hire the hardest hit Americans.
Surely, these provisions will entail cost but the expense for fellow Americans is more important and necessary than the expenses being spent abroad like in the useless Iraq and Afghanistan War. Billions of dollars were spent in those wars which caused deaths to American soldiers. Why should we starve fellow Americans and prevent the help they need? Should we want them to result to committing crimes and even suffering death in their own homeland?
Some says that there is no difference between Bush and Obama and that Obama is backed by the same New World Order. NWO is a group which had been concocted by conspiracy theorists and is now being used to destroy President Barack Obama. Surely, change is hard to accept and for some they will do anything to discredit Obama and his administration.
Who is preventing the Tier 5 Extension Bill approval? Is it Obama or is it the Bush and McCain rara boys? How long should unemployed Americans and 99ers wait before their cry is answered?
The importance and necessity of the passage of the American Wants to Work Act and the Tier 5 Extension Bill is paramount if the government wants to really show its compassion and dedication to its people. Now for the 99ers and unemployed, this events is a call for everyone to double their efforts at job hunting. And, for those companies who refuse to hire people on the account of their unemployment status and age and not based on qualifications they should be ashamed of themselves and they should be given penalties.

I think this whole situation is ridiculous , they act like the money has to come out of thier pocket,maybe if they had to make the choice of giving us the money or getting thier paycheck cut ,they would have passed the bill before thier recess or maybe even came back from recess to pass it quickly,but I think that they should try going hungry and not having essentials for thier whole recess to just get a taste of how we feel.They are sitting up there battling over money thats not even thiers to begin with,If we stop buying shit then they wont have an economy to run .But I guess they are waiting for us to start robbing banks,rioting in the streets,or commiting other crimes for money before they make a move ,Good job senate and Congress,you reap what you sew ,and God dont like ugly so remember that.
I think that the government should help the unemployed, including the “99ers” and stop giving money over to countries overseas. Instead of rebuilding Mosques (including China), and throwing money away all over the world, to the U.N., etc. they should be trying to help our own people. We need to bring back the jobs that were sent overseas. Companies should be heavily taxed who move jobs overseas. Why do they want to keep the Bush tax cuts? The rich aren’t going to hire. The rich should pay more – they should be thankful for being in this great country. I also wonder why the Politicians don’t take a pay cut.
These guys in DC don’t care about us. I am staying home in Nov for election day. I suggest we all stay home. Let the Republicans take the victory! What’s the difference if we get ignored by the Democrats or Republicans. I voted for Obama and he’s the same as Bush. Wow! What a let down. I am a tier 5 person who Glenn Beck hates and laughs at. Now I don’t care who wins the election. Stay home too everyone and give the Democrats the wake call. 2012 Obama shouldn’t even try to run.

Take the politics out of unemployment, in the past the only criteria was the unemployment rate. Above a certain level the extension was automatic.
Every day thousands of people reach 99 weeks and default on mortgages, credit cards, auto loans, and can’t pay rent. How could that benefit the economy?
If they really wanted a solution provide incentives for companies to cut hours not people, and not be so greedy and forget who helped them make the money.
It is sad that we 99ers have been left to be in financial ruin. We all live day to day and worry where our next penny will come from. There are no jobs out there and if you are over 40 forget it. The government keeps telling us things are getting better and that there is growth in the private sector and we all ask is where is this happening? There are those who say we are lazy and that we are holding out for a bettter paying job but they need to get real. We are hurting so much that we are desperate and wish we could land any job just so we could try to prevent us from losing everything we have. Obama claims there are stimulus plans he put out there to help but nobody can qualify for them or get them. We can’t get loans to live on left alone to try to start a small business. The mtg companies won’t help either as we are all in financial ruin and the credit card bills we have used up to live on are putting us in low credit ratings that we are all doomed at this point and are on brink of being homeless. We need the extension now not in weeks or months. That extension will at least allow us to put gas in our cars to get to job interviews and even to get to a library to use the computer as we all had to drop our internet service as we have no money to pay for anything. All the government is doing is to reinforce that they are only looking out for rich and us unemployed are not cared about. We need help now. We need money now. We need something. HELP US PLEASE.

Any politician refusing to help Americans who have worked most of their lives in this Country don’t need to be in office.We have paid for welfare, illegal immigrants, schools, hospitals, contribute to their getting elected. And in our hour of need they turned their backs on us.I don’t care how they get the money, just get it and soon. Obama doesn’t need any group or anyone to destroy his anti-american and godless administration, he’s doing that all by himself. We need TIER 5 to be passed right now because of Obama’s socialist agenda.
We are starving and loosing our homes every day and we have people in Washington saying we are lazy and dont want to work, but if there are jobs out there we have two problems in getting hired one we are in our 50′s and 60′s, two we have bad credit now that we cant pay any bills and that al;so keeping us from getting the jobs that are available so now what do we do about that. So we are doomed if we do and doomed if we dont, but the politition are eating everyday and spending money on what they need at our expense.
So plesae just sign the Tier 5 and let us feed and house our families too.
If the news would start reporting about unemployment right it would help..my parents think I was still getting unemployment because they see unemployment just got more extentions..( NOT FOR 99ERs).News needs to state that not just cover part of the story
i lost my job 19 months ago. i came into work one day, and the entire staff of 73 people was told ” after today, you no longer work here”. then everyone was asked to sign paperwork in order to receive a severance package. most didnt read the fine print that stated you were waiving your right to collect unemployment from this employer. For the past 19 months i have aggressively been applying for jobs, on average 10-15 applications a day. in those 19 months, i have received about 10 callbacks for an interview, but still no job offer. Yet when i walk into the businesses i have been applying for i find a bunch of illegals working what could have been my position. These bastards in washington dont give a fuck about me or you, as long as they are able to shovel food into their fat, greedy mouths they dont care. i say we completely disregard the government, declare them irrelevant. They sure as hell dont do anything to better our lives, all they do is take take take. fuck them. we should fight back now!

As of next Wednesday I lose my car insurance which means I no longer even have a car to look or even get to work if I was given the opportunity. I live in a very small town in NJ and work here is non existant. I am two months behind on two debt payments and no longer have a cell phone. Even had to move back in with my parents after losing my apartment at 32. I have a degree, was making in the mid 50′s before losing my job and everything I basically had owned. Life is worthless I’ve learned and hard work definately doesn’t pay off in this lifetime.
All the president and his wife do is spend OUR money taking vacation after vacation. DO SOMETHING to help us. Your time is running out, as a new president with much more brains than you will be in office. DUMBEST PRESIDENT ever. Please don’t send your kids to college, they do not need it. They should start making you grandkids in about 5 years, and I hope they keep reproducing till they are out of eggs.

If you could read, Michelle paid for her own trip with her own money. IT was all over the news. That is the problem with some of the folks in the U.S cannot read and understand. They rather point the fingers instead of viewing the whole situation. Bottom line is this, the REPUBLICANS block everything. Lisa if you want a Tier 5 like the rest of us, I suggest you stop wasting time on who paid for a vacation and write, email, call, and protest to Harry Reid to put the bill on the table. I am a 58 year old man and there are no jobs out there for me …I went to the bathroom of a friend of mine recently …closed the door and cried for the first time in years…depression is not a word anymore…it’s a way of life…no gas…no electric…no home…and the stigma of being a loser…lost
I finally found a job after two years. Yea clening toilets and offices. I said I wouldn’t do that. I spoke too soon. I can’t work more than 39 hrs every two weeks and I get 7.94 an hr. I can barely pay bills, have no money to buy ANYTHING and I can’t even find another part time job. I went from 16.50 and 40 or more hours a week to this. No one would even grant me an interview. Isn’t America great!! Age IS a factor. I spent 24 yrs at Tyco Electronics and they called us into the lunchroom in 2008 and said see ya, we’re going to Mexico. Thank our frickin government for that too. America is all about GREED and nothing more. Kiss my ass senators.

Table 1 from the INS website shows the number of people coming in to the USA each year.
Our government allows our USA jobs to be outsourced in foreign countries while over a million people seeking American residency are allowed to come into the USA each year.
Even a complete moron can see why there are no real jobs in America today. The people we voted in to work for us only work on their own agenda’s not the American people.

As for tier 5, I sure could use it. I’m a 58 year old carpenter. I’ve filled out hundreds of applications, sent out hundreds of resumes in the past 2 years and have had only 1 interview. I can’t even find a minimum wage job flipping burgers. I even put an add on Craigslist for a handy man, and the CCB sent me a letter threatening to sue me because I don’t have a contractors license, which costs about $1500. to get.
And you bet I’m entitled to a tier 5 extension. I’m not the one who watched the housing bubble grow and eventually burst without lifting a finger to stop it or at least try and prevent it, our wonderful politicians did!!! It is because of our greedy corrupt government that I lost my job. I had a great job with great benefits!
I’ve worked my butt off all my life, and I’ve made a good living until Uncle Sam butt his nose into our business and forced banks and mortgage companies to give loans to people who couldn’t afford them.
How much money was spent on pushing the worthless health care bill through, or the wasted money spent trying to push this phony global warming crap on us. How much money is being wasted on the government suing the State of AR for trying to enforce the laws that the Feds won’t enforce. How much money is wasted by having our military strung out all over the world. Bring them all home and string em out along our own borders. That’s what the military was originally created for, to protect our own borders, not everyone else’s.
Our supposed leaders are supposed to be educated people. Well you can have all the degrees in the world, but without common sense their educations don’t amount to a hill of beans.
Here’s a thought! How about you politicians concentrate on fixing the economy, getting people back to work, and when our economy is stable once again, then maybe work on health care and immigration. Oh by the way, the health care bill, if put into place would be the biggest hand out this country has ever given.
A tier 5 extension is needed, and the money would go right back into our economy. We earn our unemployment benefits. We don’t work, no money is payed into the system, so employment should be the number one priority for the government to be working on. Solve that problem, and everything else will follow.

While the Republicans have certainly opposed Tier 5 extension of UI benefits, the Democrats as well as the President himself have also abandoned 99ers. Obama has been giving plenty of lip service to the 99ers and this is pathetic since he knows darn well that many 99ers are people over 50! Obama, Bella Pelosi, and Harry Reid are una fatsa una ratsa with the Republicans who oppose Tier 5. The only difference is that the Republicans are making their opposition known in a direct manner. Obama, Bela Pelosi, and Reid on the other hand tell half the truth – they claim that they support the unemployed but they stop short of telling us whether they support 99ers and the elderly ubnemployed Americans over 50 who are among the 99ers.
