According to ABC News, Kal Penn has finally returned to the White House as Associate Director in the White House Office of Public Engagement after filming a Christmas-themed Harold & Kumar movie
Kal Penn is of Indian descent and was born and raised in US. He is the first Indian-American to find a successful acting career in Hollywood’s mainstream. He has also taught at the University of Pennsylvania as a visiting lecturer in the Cinema Studies Program.
Penn temporarily left his post as Barack Obama’s associate director of public engagement to film the third movie in the Harold & Kumar franchise in April.
“The White House is pleased to have Kalpen Modi join the Office of Public Engagement as an Associate Director,” White House spokesman Shin Inouye said in a statement. “While OPE works collectively on conducting outreach to the American public and various organizations, he will be the point person for those in the Arts, Youth, and Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) communities.”
Penn left the Fox series House in April 2009 — his character, Dr. Lawrence Kutner, committed suicide — to join Obama’s administration full-time.
