Google’s 12th Birthday Celebrated in Google Doodle
Google’s 12th Birthday Celebrated in Google Doodle – If you are asking when is Google’s Birthday, well today, September 27, 2010, Google is celebrating its 12th birthday as it officially turns 12 years old. Back in September 27, 1988, Google was incorporated as a corporation to become what is now known as the search engine leader.
Google’s history dates back in January 1996 as a research project by Larry Page and Sergey Brin when they were both PhD students at Stanford University in California. Page and Brin originally nicknamed Google as “BackRub”, because it checks backlinks to estimate the importance of a site. Eventually, they changed the name to Google, originating from a misspelling of the word “googol”.
The first funding for Google was on August 1998 from a contribution of US$100,000 from Andy Bechtolsheim, co-founder of Sun Microsystems. Since it is taking too much of their time, Brin and Page went to Excite CEO George Bell and offered to sell it to him for $1 million. However, Bell rejected it.
Google’s initial public offering (IPO) took place on August 19, 2004. Since 2001, Google has acquired many companies, mainly focusing on small venture capital companies including Youtube and DoubleClick. Since then, Google grew and achieved the top position as the search engine market leader.
