We first heard about the “rumor” from Boy George in 1995, but now we are getting it straight from the horses mouth, so to speak, as Gavin Rossdale suddenly decides to acknowledge his past with a cross-dresser named Marilyn.
Rossdale confesses, “When you’re 17, Jesus Christ. I don’t think there’s anything strange about any form of—you’re learning about life… It’s a part of growing up. That’s it. No more, no less.”
Marilyn has insisted the relationship lasted for a few years, but Rossdale says it was a one-time thing. He adds, “That was it. You have to know what you like, and I know what I like.”
So, why did he decide to come out with the truth now?
He admits, “I think at the outset there was a sort of fear—that was right at the beginning of Bush, and I didn’t want it to be part of it.
“It felt like a cheap shot, so I was like, ‘I’m not getting involved.’ I’ve never wanted to appear closed about it. It’s not something I’ve talked about really because it’s always been in the glare of a tabloid world.”
In my opinion he should have just let sleeping dogs lie. Coming out with this admission will not do him, his wife or their child any good… unless it’s a publicity stunt to re-kindle a lackluster career. Still, this piece of “truth” could be more damaging in the long run for his family – unless he really wants Gwen Stefani to come to her senses and leave him.
