Novak Djokovic continued his winning streak in the recently concluded Rome Masters Semi finals defeating Andy Murray. He just grabbed his 36th win ending the game with the official score of 6-1 3-6 7-6 (7-2) after three long hours. “I played my best tennis against the best player in the world at the moment,” said Murray. The epic victory would now be leading him to face the world’s top seeded Rafael Nadal once again on Sunday.
Djokovic just blemished Nadal’s two-year unbeaten run on clay in the Madrid final few weeks ago and now everyone has been looking forward if he could manage to make a repeat. Rome Final got the same pair two years ago wherein Nadal defeated Djokovic. This tournament is just another Nadal-dominated tournament wherein he has won the event for five of the past six years.
Unlike the 3-hour semi final game of Djokovic and Murray, Nadal easily got his Finals spot defeating the French 16th seed Richard Gasquet 7-5 6-1 in 93 minutes.
Nadal remained as “King of Clay” but it seems that this year, Djokovic is serious enough in getting it from him. After this Rome Masters would be the much anticipated French Open which is starting next month. Another Nadal-dominated clay tournament since 2005.
“I am playing better every day and a little bit higher, so I think that in general I am happy for everything,” Nadal told the ATP Tour website.
