Palace Sets Royal Wedding Date

Mark your calendars and save the date April 29, 2011 as Britain will celebrate a very special day. The royal family has announced Tuesday that the Royal wedding of His Royal Highness Prince William of Wales to lady Catherine Elizabeth “kate” Middleton will happen on a Friday next year at Westminster Abbey in London.

After 8 long years of courtship, Britain’s Prince William has finally ask the hand of his lady Kate last week in Kenya. News of the royal engagement spread like wild fire. Soon people were eager to find out details about the wedding. Tuesdays announcement ends a week of speculation about the date and venue.

A spokeswoman for Prince Charles issued an official statement “The royal family will pay for the wedding, following the precedence set by the marriages of the prince and princess of Wales in 1981 and Princess Elizabeth and Prince Philip in 1947”.

Prime Minister David Cameron was delighted to know and said the government will shoulder any wider transportation or security-related costs.

The thousand-year-old Westminster Abbey saw a sudden spike of visitors with royal fans, the media, and bookies swarming the place after the couple announced their engagement a week ago.

Westminster Abbey, formally know as Collegiate Church of St. Peter at Westminster, is founded in 960, with the present Gothic church dating to 1245. Located just west of the Palace of Westminster, the place has been a “coronation church” since 1066— the place where kings and queens are crowned when they ascend to the throne– and burial site for English and British monarchs of the Commonwealth Realms.

Westminster Abbey staged several important events in Prince Williams life. The funeral service for his dear mother Princess Diana of was held there in 1997. His grandmother Queen Elizabeth II married Prince Philip there in 1947, when she was still a princess; her father, King George VI, got married there in 1923.

Days after the announcement, Middleton was seen leaving the Abbey with her parents. According to British newspapers, Middleton and her parents had a private after-hours tour.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Cameron welcomed the announcement and has made the wedding day a national holiday. “The wedding of Kate and William will be a happy and momentous occasion. We want to mark the day as one of national celebration. A public holiday will ensure the most people possible will have a chance to celebrate on the day.” Cameron said in a statement.

Prince William Arthur Philip Louis of Wales, second in the line of succession to the thrones of 16 independent states, met Catherine Elizabeth Middleton at St. Andrews University. The two grew closer when they became flatmates. The young lovebirds began dating officially in 2003. After four years of being each other’s sweetheart, news broke out the the couple has called it quits on2007 but after a few months the couple was seen together again. On 16 November 2010, Clarence House announced that Prince William and Catherine Middleton are to marry on 29 April 2011 in Westminster Abbey, London.

Charlie Sheen – Capri Wilson War

Charlie Sheen’s current nemesis, Adult film actress Capri Anderson, may enter into a truce with the 45 year old actor as she has decided against filing a lawsuit against Sheen. According to Anderson’s lawyer, Keith Davidson, she is temporarily withdrawing her complaint.

Anderson, whose real name is Christina Walsh, filed a criminal harassment complaint against Sheen on Monday related to an October 26 event where she allegedly had a violent encounter with the actor. The incident happened at the Plaza Hotel where authorities found Sheen naked and intoxicated and Capri inside the closet.

Davidson told CNN that his clients decision not push through with the lawsuit is not, in any way, caused by the counter lawsuit filed by Sheen’s attorney against her on Monday. Sheen is charging Wilson with extortion. “Ms. Walsh has thus, and for the time being, opted to consult the New York City authorities regarding the events of October 26, 2010,” Davidson said.

The case was brought to the New York police investigation team when she filed her complaint on Monday.

In a TV interview, Anderson said Sheen had sent her text messages apologizing and offering her money for her silent just hours after the incident. But Sheen’s attorney, Yale Galanter denied the reports, saying “Charlie Sheen has never offered her a dime to keep her quiet,”.

TMZ reported on Thursday that they had obtained several text messages in which Charlie is flirting with her in a big way as he offers her $20,000.

The actors lawsuit called Anderson “an opportunistic pornographic film star and publicity hungry scam-artist” who “fabricated a sensational tale about being assaulted, battered and held against her will.” The lawsuit further claimed that Anderson’s lawyer threatened to go to authorities in Colorado — where Sheen is on probation — and appear on morning talk shows “unless Sheen paid her a seven-figure sum.”

The actor is suing Wilson for $165,000 to replace an expensive watch he alleges she took from him. It was this “missing watch” that caused the ruckus, according to Sheen’s petition.

According to the suit: “Sheen asked Walsh to return the watch, and when Walsh refused and falsely denied that she had taken the watch, Sheen became extremely upset. Walsh then locked herself in the bathroom of the hotel room and refused to come out.” The lawsuit adds “At no time did Sheen assault, batter or threaten Walsh. She locked herself in the bathroom “because she was afraid that Sheen might find the watch on her.”

Galanter questioned Anderson’s motive and pointed out that she did not make a report of wrongful conduct against Sheen on the night of the incident. Davidson, however, firmly defended his client’s right to receive compensation for the damages done. “We know that the room was trashed, we know that Capri was chased and locked into a bathroom,” Davidson said, “and we know that one person was brought away from the hotel against their will.”

Charlie Sheen, whose real name is Carlos Irwin Estevez, is the son of veteran actor Martin Sheen and brother of Emilio Estevez. He was formerly married to Donna Peeler, Denise Richards, and Brooke Mueller. Some of his film credits include Plattoon, Major League, Hotshots, Scary Movie 3 and 4. Sheen is famous for his roles on two sitcoms: Spin City and Two and a Half Men.

7 Caffeine-Alcohol Drinks Halt From Shipping

On Wednesday, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration announced that the manufacturers of seven caffeinated alcoholic beverages labeled a “public healt concern” have stopped producing or shipping the products.

The FDA has sent warning letters last week to four beverage makers saying the addition of caffeine to alcoholic beverages was not approved by the agency and it was an “unsafe food additive.”

FDA said discussions with the manufacturers resulted in these actions:

• Phusion Projects of Chicago, Illinois, has ceased producing caffeinated alcohol beverages, is no longer shipping such products and expects to have all of its caffeinated alcoholic beverages off retail store shelves by 13 December. Phusion is the maker of Four Loko.

• Charge Beverages Corp. of Portland, Oregon, ceased producing its caffeinated alcoholic beverages, Core High Gravity HG, Core High Gravity HG Orange, and Lemon Lime Core Spiked, in September and has not shipped any caffeinated alcoholic beverages since early November.

• New Century Brewing of Boston, Massachusetts, has ceased manufacturing its caffeinated alcoholic beverage, Moonshot.

• San Diego, California-based United Brands has ceased shipping its caffeinated alcoholic beverage Joose and expects to have its product off retail store shelves by December 13. United Brands also said that it no longer markets Max, another caffeinated alcoholic beverage listed in the warning letter.

According to Dr. Joshua Sharfstein, the agency’s principal deputy commissioner, last Wednesday, the warning letters followed a year-long review by the agency, FDA. It gave the companies 15 days to either reformulate their products or face possible seizure under federal law.

Experts have said the caffeine in the beverages can mask the effects of alcohol, leaving drinkers unaware of how intoxicated they are.

Reliable information to hunt down Osama Bin Laden ignored

Dr. August Hanning, Germany’s foreign intelligence chief, has every reason to believe that Osama Bin Laden is alive and well in Pakistan. According to Dr. Hanning, he had information about the al Qaeda’s founder and chief’s whereabouts back in 2001. Unfortunately, it was never brought to actionable intelligence that would have led to his capture

Hanning told CNN that when Osama bin Laden was being bombed at Tora Bora, al Qaueda’s leader was watching the events unfolding right in front of his eyes. Hanning did not elaborate on his source of information but he admits to agents feeding him news and updates on Bin Laden.

He also said that it was a “missed opportunity” to track down the 53 year old FBI’s ten most wanted fugitive. “I knew there was a chance in Afghanistan I think immediately before Tora Bora and in Tora Bora … I think there was a real opportunity to catch him and afterwards in Pakistan it became very difficult,” Hanning told CNN.

The lost opportunity is definitely lamentable, especially for the United States. Bin Laden and his Islamic extremist group al-Qaueda is believed to be behind the September 11 attacks on the World Trade Center. He and his group is currently major targets of the United States War on Terror.

He also pointed out that Bin Laden’s ability to inspire makes him more dangerous today than back then. “He’s not operational but I think he knows the basics. He makes strategic decisions, and of course he’s a symbolic figure and figures are important. ”

Hanning is confident that the Saudi born “terrorist” is in Pakistan, saying: “I think there are still a lot of hints that he is in Pakistan, and according to my estimates he is in the tribal areas in the region near Peshawar: the border region between Pakistan and Afghanistan”.

Pakistani officials, however, consistently deny Bin Laden’s presence on their soil. But Hanning believes otherwise, saying co-conspirators are hiding him. “It’s hard for me to believe that they know nothing. In some ways the al Qaeda leader is useful to Pakistan, so long [as] bin Laden is in Pakistan so Pakistan will get support from the Americans’ fight against terrorism.”

Hanning, who was appointed State Secretary in the German Federal Interior Ministry at the end of 2005, believes that tracking down bin Laden is crucial to the withdrawal of US troops from Afghanistan. He said that bin Laden’s presence in Pakistan needs to be cleared as al Qaeda is likely to return to Afghanistan if possible.

Hanning left his post last year. Osama bin Mohammed bin Awad bin Laden was born on March 10, 1957 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. He is the son of Muhammed Awad bin Laden, a wealthy businessman with close ties to the Saudi royal family, and Hamida al-Attas, the tenth wife of Muhammed bin Laden. Osama is best known as the founder and leader of the Islamic extremist group, al-Qaeda, a notorious rogue bandits responsible for the 1998 US Embassy and 2001 World Trade bombings and other “terror” attacks.

Kelly Preston Gave Birth To A Baby Boy

Acer Unveils Newest Android Tablets and Smartphone

Taiwan-based multinational computer technology and electronics corporation Acer announced the release of its newest product: three new tablet devices, two running under Google’s Android Operating software and the other under Microsoft’s Windows 7 operating system.

According to Angela Hsiang, an analyst for KGI Securities Co. in Taipei, the debut highlights the company’s entry into the tablet computer market,”. Strategy Analytics pointed out Acer’s hope of getting a share of the tablet market. The world’s second- largest computer maker aims to grab about 10 percent of the market for tablets that bridge the gap between laptops and smartphones such as Research In Motion Ltd.’s BlackBerry and Apple’s iPhone.

Hsiang seems optimistic with Acer’s product launch, saying that the tablet computers may appeal to price-sensitive consumers. “The 9.7 inch iPad costs around $499 to $829, consumers looking for cheaper devices may be attracted to other tablets below $400,” she said in a telephone interview.

The tablets are still unnamed but a spokesperson for Acer had told CNN that the first two tablets will use Google’s Android platform and comes in a 7 inch and 10.1 display screen. A third tablet, with the same 10.1 display screen, will be running Microsoft’s Windows 7 operating system.

The tablets boast an impressive 1280×800 screen resolution and 1080p HDMI capacity– enough to make your eyes pop out. It also sports a sleek 5MP front and rear facing camera and 3G and Wi-Fi connectivity, according to a Taipei based Acer spokesman.

At the press release, the company did not name which version each devices will use. Buyers are wistful with hopes that Acer will lay down the cards with Gingerbread OS (Android 2.3) or even Honeycomb (Android 3.0). But as long as the company is placing its bets with Android, consumers are impress. After all, applications will be what defines the utility of such a tablet.

As for the ICONIA, a hybrid laptop/tablet with a dual-screen, its Microsoft’s Windows 7 OS is not to be overlooked. The slick “laplet” carries a glossy touchsreen and a sophisticated media management center that is gesture controlled. So far, the specs and features of ICONIA are limited with only details that a 4 GB of RAM, two 14-inch multitouch displays, and an Intel Core i5 CPU is included.

According to, a technology review site, “ICONIA may be integrated with a cloud-based system that’s designed to play multi-format content over multi-platform devices, enabling any number of gadgets to talk to one another in order to make content visible and shareable with any other device.

Acer, which also makes mobile phones, also took the opportunity to launch its newest smartphone, a 4.8 inch screen hybrid smartphone/ tablet device. The gadget is also unnamed and using Google’s Android OS. The smartphone/ tablet device, which the company proudly refers to “a phone with the soul of a tablet”, comes in a bracing 1024×480 screen resolution, a 21:9 aspect ratio (talk about uber devices), a stiring 8MP high camera with an LED Flash (sure enough to capture that special moment) , a 1 GHz Snapdragon processor and a Gyroscope/accelerometer combo.

After the announcement, Acer’s market share rose to 0.5 percent to NT$90.20 at 11:54 a.m. on the Taiwan Stock Exchange. The stock has lost 6.1 percent this year, compared with a 1.5 percent gain by the benchmark Taiex index.

No Survivors in New Zealand Mine Explosion

No Survivors in New Zealand Mine Explosion – Since Friday, 29 miners were trapped in a New Zealand coal pit. They are believed to be dead after a second explosion.

According to Police Supt Gary Knowles, there was no hope that anyone could have survived the massive underground blast at the Pike River mine on South Island. Furthermore, there had been no communication with the miners, 24 New Zealanders, two Australians, two Britons and a South African, since the first explosion on Friday.

New Zealand’s Prime Minister John Key said the loss of life was a national tragedy. The mayor of Greymouth, the town nearest the mine, said that the miners’ families were in absolute despair after hearing of the news.

Police Supt Knowles was leading the rescue operation. There had been another explosion at 1437 local time (0137 GMT) inside the mine. His team had been preparing to go into the mine on Wednesday, but unfortunately, information suggested the levels of methane gas were too high.

The second blast was larger and stronger than Friday’s blast and it lasted about 30 seconds. The chief executive of Pike River Coal, Peter Whittall, said that it would make every effort to retrieve the bodies of the men.

Pluto: A Planet Or Not Debate Re-emerges

After years of knowing that our solar system consists of 9 planetary bodies, its been disconcerting that the iciest planet Pluto is no longer deemed as a planet but one of the icy bodies floating around the universe.

The planet Pluto was declassified from full-pledged planet to “dwarf planet,” back in 2006,just as astronomers discovered the existence of another heavenly body Eris, another icy body from Pluto’s neighborhood,a year earlier. Eris was originally thought to be bigger than Pluto until Nov. 6, when astronomers got a chance to recalculate Eris’ size.

The latest Eris findings renewed astronomers’ attention top the forgotten planet. It appears that Pluto is bigger than Eris reigns with slimmest of margins (the numbers are so close as to be nearly indistinguishable, when uncertainties are taken into account).

With this findings prompted the science world to reconsider their controversial decision to strip the frigid world of its planet status.

Should Pluto be a planet? Should Eris, and many other objects circling the sun beyond Neptune’s orbit?

Pluto’s demotion

The International Astronomical Union,in 2006,had came up with the following official definition of “planet:” A body that circles the sun without being some other object’s satellite, is large enough to be rounded by its own gravity (but not so big that it begins to undergo nuclear fusion, like a star) and has “cleared its neighborhood” of most other orbiting bodies.

In Pluto’s case, scientists discovered that the “icy planet” shares orbital space with other objects in the Kuiper Belt.

Kuiper Belt is the icy ring that is found beyond planet Neptune.

With this discovery,Pluto, can not be actually considered as a planetary body thus, the IAU recategorized Pluto, and Eris, as “dwarf planets.”

Dwarf planets are not officially full-fledged planets.

Pluto, since its discovery in 1930 has been branded as the ninth planet was stripped of from planet status after 75 years. Eight planets officially remain: Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune.

The scientist who discovered Eris-which is about 9 billion miles (15 billion kilometers) from the sun at its farthest orbital point, making it about twice as distant as Pluto, Caltech astronomer Mike Brown, thinks Pluto’s re-classification was the right move.

“Pluto, Eris and the many other Kuiper Belt objects are far too different to be lumped in with the eight official planets,” he said.

“For one thing, they’re much smaller. Pluto is about 1,455 miles (2,342 km) wide. The smallest official planet, Mercury, is more than twice as big at 3,032 miles (4,880 km) across.

“The dwarfs’ orbits tend to be very different, too — much more elliptical and more inclined, relative to the plane of the solar system. And they’re made of different stuff, with ices comprising more of their mass.”

“It just makes no sense from a classification standpoint to take these objects that clearly belong together and pick one — or two, or a dozen — and say, ‘Oh, these belong with the very different, large, planet-like things,” Brown said.

Brown reinstated that the only explanation why early astronomers deemed Pluto as planet just because it was “first detected so long ago, before people realized that it was just one of a vast flotilla of objects beyond Neptune’s orbit.”

The Kuiper Belt ,who was seen to embody more than 1,000 icy bodies or more, wasn’t even discovered until 1992.

“It’s just a funny historical accident that we found Pluto so early, and that it was the only thing known out there for so long,” Brown told “No one in their right mind would not have called it a planet back then, because we didn’t know any better.”

“We have progressed so much further in our understanding of what the solar system is that it’s pretty obvious,” he said. “We can go back and reassess the mistakes of our ancestors.”

Some astronomers think that Pluto should take its rightful place alongside other Kuiper Belt objects rather than being classified as a planet.

Director of New York City’s Hayden Planetarium,Neil deGrasse state,”I group Pluto with the other icy bodies in the Kuiper Belt I think it’s happier there, actually. Pluto has family in the outer solar system.”

However, some unconvinced astronomers are not fully convinced with the re-classification of Pluto and the reorganization of the solar system.
Rather, they say, that the IAU’s planet definition is fundamentally flawed.

“If you take the IAU’s definition strictly, no object in the solar system is a planet,” said Alan Stern, a planetary scientist at the Southwest Research Institute in Boulder, Colo. “No object in the solar system has entirely cleared its zone.”

“The definition also sets different standards for planethood at different distances from the sun,” according to Stern, who is principal investigator of NASA’s New Horizons mission, which is sending a spacecraft to Pluto.

“The farther away a planet is from the sun, the bigger it needs to be in order to clear its zone. If Earth circled the sun in Uranus’ orbit, it wouldn’t be able to clean out its neighborhood and would thus not qualify as a planet, Stern said.

“It’s literally laughable,” he told

So Pluto should be a planet, as should Eris and the dwarf planet Ceres (the largest body in the asteroid belt between Mars and Jupiter), as well as many other objects.

Such a definition would greatly expand the list of planets in the solar system.

“Many people think it’s special to be a planet,” Stern said.

“But adding a bunch of names to the list wouldn’t cheapen the ones that had been there forever,” he added.

“It would simply reflect astronomers’ increasing understanding of the solar system. In that understanding, small, icy planets far outnumber big gassy or rocky ones.”

“There are a large number of planets, and most of them are small,” Stern said. “It’s the Earth-like planets and the giant planets that are freakish.”

Tyson said he tries not to use the word “planet” in its generic sense, since it does not hold very much meaningful information.

“The word ‘planet’ has far outlived its usefulness,” Tyson told “It doesn’t celebrate the scientific richness of the solar system.”

So Tyson thinks in categories such as gas giants (Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune) and terrestrial planets (Mercury, Venus, Earth and Mars) as well as asteroids and Kuiper Belt objects (Pluto, Eris and many others).

For his part, Brown thinks stripping Pluto of its planethood doesn’t make the icy body any less interesting or important.

“I think that Pluto as an example of a large Kuiper Belt object is so much more interesting than Pluto as this very weird planet at the outer edge of the solar system unlike anything else,” Brown said. “We are going to learn so much more about the solar system with our new understanding of what Pluto is.”

Bristol Palin Causes Tension On Dancing With The Stars Production

BRISTOL Palin, the second and eldest daughter of the former American Vice-President candidate Sarah Palin, is worried about her safety.

According to recent reports, the 20-year-old teenage mother of one, who is currently enjoying her stint on Dancing With the Stars, has strengthened her security right after receiving a threatening letter containing suspicious white powder at the show’s production office Friday.

This prompted tension among the show’s production and security team as they are concerned with the safety-not just Bristol’s but also for everyone else.

“Everyone is on high alert,” an insider said. “It’s like a scene from The Bodyguard, with Bristol playing the leading lady.

“Nowhere in the world is going to be more secure than the Dancing set on Monday.

“The audience will all go through extreme security checks and not even the president of the United States could get backstage without the appropriate credentials that evening.

“This is a dancing competition, for god’s sake. None of us signed up for this. We should just be worrying about getting the best shots and making sure all our lighting cues are tight, now we are all worrying about our safety. It’s just not right.”

Moreover, Bristol, who is hailed as Teen Abstinence spokesperson, may end up with millions after Dancing With The Stars.

“Bristol could get endorsements, book contracts and TV show offers,” says one insider.

“Like her or not, everyone is talking about her.

“Such a connection with TV viewers pretty well assures Bristol a career if she wants to hop, skip and jump on it.

“She has consistently improved and people can relate to how hard she has worked.

“Bristol is young and hard working. She could remain in high profile situations, or just take this experience back to Alaska and use it to highlight the issues she cares about.”
