National Day of Prayer 2010 Celebration

Today is the National Day of Prayer 2010 in the United States.  Prayer is seen by many around the world as a poweful force in making possibilities happen and in calling the Divine will from materializing into the physical world.

The National Day of Prayer 2010 is an annual day of observance held on the first Thursday of May, designated by the United States Congress, when people are asked “to turn to God in prayer  and meditation”. The law formalizing its annual observance was enacted in 1952..

As the National Day of Prayer site says, “Prayer has always been used in this country for guidance, protection and strength-even before we were a nation or a handful of colonies. The Pilgrims at Plymouth relied on prayer during their first and darkest winter. Our founding fathers also called for prayer during the Constitutional Congress. In their eyes, our recently created nation and freedoms were a direct gift from God. And being a gift from God, there was only one way to insure protection-through prayer.”

The site also gives an informative instruction on how to pray on the National Day of Prayer 2010 and in your daily life.

“If you are not sure how to pray, don’t despair! Everyone had to begin sometime. Just talk with God respectfully but openly. Talk with Him as your Father. Jesus taught us to pray, “Our Father …”. Recognize God as a loving Father. Recognize Jesus as a Friend and a Brother. Recognize the Holy Spirit as your Comforter and Guide. Come to the Father in Jesus’ name (John 14:6; Hebrews 10:19). Begin your prayer with confession of your unconfessed sins. In this way the blood of Jesus cleanses us and prepares us to really relate to God. “Enter his gates with thanksgiving…” (Psalm 100:4). Thank God for forgiving your sins, for coming into your life, for making you His child. Then just talk with God, asking Him for whatever you need. Thank Him and praise Him for His answer. Spend time also asking for His Spirit to help you to pray. Talk to the Holy Spirit. Tell Him you want to know Him. “Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us…” (Romans 8:26). The Holy Spirit will guide you into all the truth (John 16:13) and He will teach you to pray. ”

Pro Football Hall of Fame News: Lawrence Taylor Charged with Rape

Ex-NFL superstar Lawrence Taylor is currently charged with Rape of a 16-year old girl who ran away from her home. If proven guilty, he will not only go to jail, but he will be put down from the NFL Pro Football Hall of Fame List.

Taylor isn’t just the greatest linebacker (and perhaps greatest overall defensive player) to walk the face of the Earth, he’s a celebrity. Putting Taylor of the Pro Football Hall of Fame is still a running debate among sports commissioners since the basis for being put on the Hall of Fame was performance on  the football field and not outside it.

Other than the current rape issue, Taylor also had a highly publicized struggle with drug addiction and has had multiple legal run-ins since retiring from football. Last Thursday, Taylor was arraignedon charges of third-degree rape and patronizing a prostitute and posted a bail worth $75,000.

Arthur Aidala, Taylor’s lawyer said he is a “loving family man” who did not have sex with the teenager and wouldn’t rape anyone. Taylor is facing charges for third-degree rape , which is when the victim is under the age of consent (17 years old in New York City).

Latest Update on Tylenol Recall: FDA Confirmed a Bacterial Involvement

Lately, Tylenol recall has shocked everyone. McNeil Consumer Healthcare has just released a recall statement in its various children’s medicines last April 30, 2010. The reason for this recall was that the FDA inspectors found thick dust and grime covering certain equipment, a hole in the ceiling and duct tape-covered pipes at the Fort Washington, Pennsylvania.

Just recently, May 5, 2010, FDA has confirmed that a bacteria identified to be Burkholderia cepacia has been found at the Johnson & Johnson plant. This bacteria is known to be resistant to common antibiotics. According to Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), B. cepacia is the name for a group of bacteria that can be found in soil and water. Although the bacteria was only found on some drums used by its vendor to transport the raw materials, those contaminated drums never reached the Fort-Washington, PA-plant that made the recalled drugs.

“Remaining drums from that lot were sent to us, all of which tested negative for bacteria. Samples of finished product also tested negative,” said Johnson & Johnson spokesman Marc Boston.

“Still, the FDA felt there was the potential for contamination and that a recall of all of these products was prudent to protect the public health. Once again we advise that consumers not use these McNeil products at this time.”

Tylenol is a North American brand of drugs for relieving pain, reducing fever, and relieving the symptoms of allergies, cold, cough, and flu. The active ingredient of its original, flagship product, acetaminophen (called “paracetamol” outside North America), is marketed as an analgesic and antipyretic.

Lady Gaga’s Full Length “Idol” Performance of “Alejandro” Video

Lady Gaga On American Idol

Last Wednesday night’s “American Idol” results show, Lady Gaga shook the stage with her performance of her latest Spanish-themed single “Alejandro”. However, Fox chopped down her performance which originally ran for about six-and-a-half minutes in length. Their reason? Time constraints.

“Idol cut down my performance.” says Lady GaGa. She then gave a link to her Twitter followers so they could enjoy the “full length performance.” Though the link she gave is broken, the “full-length” version quickly made its way around the Internet.

Gaga performed that night with smoke machines, shirtless male dancers and a large statue of an archangel in the middle. Her performance was taped last week after Siobhan Magnus was booted out from the competition. Of course, this gave the show’s editor more than enough time to cut away all those oh-so-dazzling-yet-too-inappropriate-for-TV portions of her performance.

Curious what are those parts they axed? Well it’s none other than an extended ballad version of Gaga’s hit song “Bad Romance”. We may have only heard her sing a few lines from that song, but it actually ran for about 1:15 in length.  A few shots of her front were also removed and it seems that the editors also blurred her left breast when she started sprawling across the front of the stage during the “Alejandro” chorus.

Gaga wrote on her Twitter that she dedicated the “Idol” performance to her fans, saying, “Tune in Little Monsters, Paws up! I dedicate this performance to you. You make me strong.”

So for all those little monsters that hasn’t seen their hot mama monster’s full length performance, check it out below.

40ft Oil Containment Dome Arrives at Gulf Site

The 40 ft containment dome sails towards the spot in the Gulf of Mexico where a large oil leak is fouling the sea. It arrives on Thursday morning, May 6.

A boat carrying a 40 feet containment dome, or cofferdam, which is designed to siphon off the oil polluting the Gulf of Mexico has finally arrived to the spot where a blown-out well is spewing gallons of petroleum onto the seabed, a spokesman for BP, Mark Salt, said on Thursday morning.

British Petroleum (BP) plans to lower the container into the water later Thursday, Salt said.

Engineers are hoping that it will be the best short-term solution in controlling the leak that has worsened since it began just two weeks ago. The hope is that the container will collect the leaking oil, which would be sucked up to a drill ship on the surface. BP hopes that the dome  will be able to collect as much as 85 per cent of the almost 800,000 litres of crude that have been gushing out of the well daily for the last two weeks. If the operation is successful, BP plans to deploy a second, smaller dome to deal with a second leak in the ruptured pipe.

“If all goes according to plan, we should begin the process of processing the fluid and stop the spilling to the sea on Monday,” said Doug Suttles, BP’s chief operating officer. However, he later added, “It’s very complex, and it will likely have challenges along the way.”

BP said that putting the large structure into place could take several days. Another boat with a crane will be used to drop the contraption to the seafloor and cover the gusher of oil spewing from the seabed — a technique that has never been attempted at a depth of about 5,000 feet underwater, according to Suttles.

BP announced early Wednesday that it had managed to cap one of the three existing leak points from the sunken rig on Tuesday night; however, it was the smallest of the three existing leaks. The leaks sprung after an oil rig that the multinational petroleum firm had leased, the Deepwater Horizons, exploded on April 20, which killed 11 people, and sank two days later.

“While this is not expected to affect the overall rate of flow from the well, it is expected to reduce the complexity of the situation being dealt with on the seabed,” BP said in a statement.

Kendra Exposed soon to be released

Kendra Wilkinson Baskett

Kendra Wilkinson Baskett, a former model known as Kendra Wilkinson, is currently facing a tight spot. The reason? She is set to become an unwilling star of a new sex tape titled “Kendra Exposed” which is to be released by VIVID Entertainment. Kendra did put up a fight to prevent the release and distribution of the said tape and appointed lawyers to help her out. However in the end, Vivid Entertainment won the battle.

Steven Hirsch, the founder of the company, is fully much aware that the former model was trying all means to halt the release of the video. Hirsch said that the video was brought to them through another source. The company CEO is pretty sure that they can distribute the tape and are fully confident in their rights to release this video. He also said that they tried to contact Kendra Baskett, but all attempts in reaching her failed.

“We believe this could be our all time best-selling celebrity tape.” Hirsch further added.

Kendra Exposed is likely to be released around the last of week of May. The said sex tape was done six years ago when Kendra was still single. However, her male partner in the tape still hasn’t been revealed by the company yet.

I’m quite sure that all fans of the former model is already excited after knowing that “Kendra Exposed” is soon going to be available in the market— in fact, in just a few couple of  weeks.

Kendra was born in 1985 and became famous for her role in the reality series television show “The Girls Next Door” which is about the life of three of Hugh Hefner’s girlfriends. She was never one of Hef’s Playboy Playmates but she appeared in the Playboy Magazine multiple times alongside her fellow house and show mates. Her own spin off reality series Kendra, debuted in June 2009 which centers on her leaving the Playboy mansion and becoming engaged to Philadelphia Eagles receiver Hank Baskett.  Kendra then later gave birth to a boy on December 11, 2009.

Nigerian President Umaru Yar’Adua died;Goodluck Jonathan sworn in as new leader

In this March 30, 2007 file photo, Nigerian President Umaru Yar'Adua is seen in Abuja, Nigeria. Yar'Adua died Wednesday, May 5, 2010 at age 58
Nigerian President Umaru Yar’Adua passed away at his presidential villa following a long illness. He was 58.

Abuja: Umaru Yar’Adua, Nigeria’s third elected civilian president was known for his honesty but in the end lacked the strength to tackle the corruption in this oil-rich country.

A “servant leader” as the Muslim northerner called himself, his reputation was for financial prudence and accountability, a rare quality among Nigerian politicians.

“This is a moment of sober reflection for virtually all Nigerians because losing a very important personality like the nation’s number one is a great loss, not only to his family, not only to people within his political formation, but it is a great loss to Nigeria as a whole. It’s a tragedy that has struck the nation with shock and some disbelief. But, as Muslims and Christians, we all know that every living soul shall one day taste death,”Political Science Professor Kabiru Mato of the University of Abuja said.

United States President Barack Obama expressed sadness at the death of Yar’Adua, praising him as a man with a passionate belief in his nation’s future, in a statement issued Wednesday.

“We remember and honour president Yar’Adua’s profound personal decency and integrity, his deep commitment to public service, and his passionate belief in the vast potential and bright future of Nigeria’s 150 million people,” he said.

“He was committed to creating lasting peace and prosperity within Nigeria’s own borders, and continuing that work will be an important part of honouring his legacy.

In neighbouring Benin, President Boni Yayi paid his own tribute.

“With the loss of this great statesman… Benin, my country, loses a great friend and I am very upset,” he told AFP.

Goodluck Jonathan, the new Nigerian president took oath hours after the death of Yar'Adua
Meanwhile, Nigeria’s new leader Goodluck Jonathan sworn to office hours after the death of the country’s elected leader. He vowed on Thursday electoral reform and fighting graft would be top priorities as he steers the nation to its most fiercely contested polls since the end of military rule.

Jonathan was sworn in as head of state in Africa’s most populous country 9am local time at the presidential villa.

In his acceptance speech after taking oath, Jonathan said his coming to power came under “very sad and unusual circumstances”, describing Yar’Adua as a “man of great personal integrity… and outstanding humility”.

The new president pledged his “total commitment to good governance, electoral reforms and the fight against corruption”.

“One of the true tests would be to ensure that all votes count and are counted in the upcoming general elections,” he said. Jonathan has said little about his own political plans.

Jonathan will have to complete his predecessor’s term, which expires in April 2011, and nominate a vice president who is to be approved by the two houses of parliament.

Yar’Adua is to be buried in his northern Katsina State on Thursday.
