Church To Burn the Quran on September 11

A non-denominational church in Gainesville, Florida, plans to host an “International Burn a Quran Day” on the 9th anniversary of the September 11, 2001, attacks. Aside from commemorating the anniversary of the 9/11 suicide bombing of the World Trade Center, the event is also said to be in protest of what The Dove World Outreach Center calls a religion “of the devil,”
Promotions on the church’s website and Facebook page invites Christians to burn the Muslim holy book at the church grounds from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.
“We believe that Islam is of the devil, that it’s causing billions of people to go to hell, it is a deceptive religion, it is a violent religion and that is proven many, many times,” Pastor Terry Jones told CNN earlier this week.
Jones himself has written a book titled “Islam is of the Devil,” and his church sells also coffee mugs and shirts featuring the phrase. They have also launched a YouTube channel to disseminate their churches messages.
The National Association of Evangelicals, the country’s largest umbrella evangelical group, has already issued a statement urging The Dove World Outreach Center to cancel the event, warning it could cause worldwide tension between the two religions.
Wow! That is bananas! Hate breeds hate. I have the pleasure of knowing many Muslims as well as lived in a rent house owned and located right by a mosque. There was a Quaran left behind that
had the English translation. It is very similar, surprisingly similar. Raised in Catholic school during my childhood. I’m now a “converted” non denominational. This pastor is out of his mind and his followers should be careful how they approach hurting others. They should be embarrassed of the ignorance and take a stand to not participate. God says to love thy neighbor. Burning anothers worship piece won’t solve anything it only brings light to their own evil. Hopefully this painfully obvious publicity stunt will fizzle out and the real children of God just won’t show up. I’m ashamed for the leaders of this church and in amazement of the pure mention of such a uneducated stance. There are so many other ways to truly help others. I’m sure members of this community could use help right now. Re-direct the negative energy towards positive solutions within your own church.

I have always believed that where ever you go there are good and bad people, that’s what makes a society. If you think about it the events of September 11, were a pure demonstartion of hate. If we continue to promote hate we will end up living in a world where peace will not have a chance.
I think the main purpose of this church is to promote themselves and make money out of selling mugs and other things. At the same time they are luring more hate toward them.
Jesus did not teach us to hate each other, he insisted on loving your neighbor no matter what. I won’t be surprised to see this event going wrong. I just hope that the Muslim community will understand that this is not a reaction from Christians against Muslims but from a single church against what they think is a wrong religion.
They are certainly wrong since Islam promotes peace, and the people that commit terrorism acts are not considered real Muslims. For the only reason that the Quran itself says that whoever kills an innocent human life is like if you kill the entire humanity.

People have a misconception about islam, I dont know where they get the idea that islam promotes terror. There are black sheep in every society, you cant blame islam for those black sheep. These terror attacks that are carried out, are not done by muslims, but rather done by terrorists, why islam is pulled into it is beyond me.
If people could understand the difference between culture and islam, it would make more sense to them. A lot of people out there are confusing islam with culture, that is why islam is being taken wrong.
Once people get an actual understanding of islam and not follow blindly what the media is telling them, only then will they realise that islam is about peace, understanding, equality and respect.

I agree with an earlier post, if the burners of the book are previous believers of the book, then I say Amen. For professing Christians to join this lacks prudence, wisdom, discretion and our Lord’s admonition:
Mat 10:16 Behold, I send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves: be ye therefore wise as serpents, and HARMLESS as doves.

This is a freedom of speech issue and a freedom of religion issue.

The Pastor says Islam is of the Devil, and that the Quran is barely worthy of using for kindling. That is his opinion and he is entitled to it, and he certainly is entitled to burn the Quran, or use it for toilet paper if he wants. All opinions are not worthy of respect anymore than all religions are worthy of respect. But the right to have a religion, or an opinion, and to demonstrate is worthy of respect.

No, I think you will find the problems start when people try and fight against islam. Every country where there are muslims, there are people tryign to fight against it, or cause problems. Again, people who cause unprovoked terror to anyone are not true muslim, a true muslim will never cause trouble for anyone. The people you are refering to are just people pretending to follow the way of Islam and are either lost, confused or misdirected. You cant blame Islam for there wrong doings. The Holy Quran contains a lot of surahs and verses that honors and glorify the prophets sent by Allah such Abraham, Moses, Jesus and Mohamed peace and blessings of God upon them, if non Muslims burn it, it will be only blasphemous and insulting to the prophets in what they believe and therefore to themselves. Every Muslim should feel sorry for these people who insult themselves, even those who have incurred the wrath of God and these people lost.

No, 9/11 was not a muslim terror attack, it was a terror attack full stop. The people that caused this were not muslims, they were terrorists. Only classed as muslims by the media.
