NFL Combine Results 2010: Eric Berry Impresses in 40 Times

In the recent NFL Combine Results news this 2010, Eric Berry told media confidently that he is the best and ranked first overall in the entire draft. He really looked fast and fluid running his 40-yard dash with a worth-of-praise official time of 4.47. Now that’s fast!

All the defensive backs are running their 40-yard dashes at the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis and two of the highest rated players, Florida’s Joe Haden and Tenessee’s Eric Berry, each had an up and a down in their runs.

Berry showed that he has good upper body strength too, managing 19 reps in the bench press and showed smooth hips when changing direction in the field drills.

Standing at an impressive size of 5’11 1/2″ and 211 pounds, Berry has been compared to Ravens All-Pro safety Ed Reed. He also told the media during his interviews that he would rather make a play intercepting a pass rather than making the huge hit.

Haden on the other hand, who is the top cornerback, ran a very disappointing 40-yard dash time with an official 4.57.

Yes, I know. 4.57 is fast indeed. But even though a 4.57 is still considered pretty fast, a cornerback needs to run as close to 4.4 as possible.

And why? Because they need speed at their position to be able to run with wide receivers and recovery speed in the secondary is important as well.

Haden disappointed in his vertical leaping ability, while Berry is proving that he is indeed worthy to be included in the top 10.

Canadian figure skaters impressed the Vancouver audience

Canada’s Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir surged to the Olympic ice dancing lead as world champions Oksana Domnina and Maxim Shabalin’s controversial Aboriginal-themed original dance failed to impress in Vancouver.

A dramatic Spanish Flamenco allowed Virtue and Moir to overtake the Russians who had been leading after the compulsory dance, with the three-time Canadian champions scoring 68.41 points for the programme and 111.15 overall.

The Canadians opened up a 2.60-point advantage on US champions Meryl Davis and Charlie White, who moved into second with their crowd-pleasing Bollywood-themed Indian Dance.

The Americans scored 67.08 for the original dance and 108.55 overall

The Russians toned down their controversial costumes which had offended Australian Aboriginal elders during the European championships.

They lightened their dark bodysuits, cut back on some of the white swirls, although they stuck with their red loin cloths and threw in a few more eucalyptus-style leaves.

But it didn’t go down well enough with the judges.

Domnina and Shabalin scored just 62.84 leaving them with an overall 106.60 and putting them 4.55 points behind the leaders in third position going into Monday’s free dance final.

Russia look set to leave Vancouver without a figure skating title for the first time in 40 years with Domnina and Shabalin having a large gap to make up going into the final round of three.

Teams from Russia or the former Soviet Union have won all but two of the Olympic ice dancing titles since it was introduced to the Olympics in 1976.

Ferrari happy for Michael Schumacher to join rivals

michael_schumacherFerrari have insisted they will not prevent Michael Schumacher making a Formula One return with another team.

The seven-time world champion has been a consultant for Ferrari since retiring in 2006 and said recently he would continue for another three years.

But the 40-year-old has been linked with a move to Mercedes and Ferrari president Luca di Montezemolo said Schumacher’s role was “not binding”.

He added: “If he takes another road our agreement will no longer be valid.”

Schumacher was on the brink of a racing return with Ferrari in August to deputise for the injured Felipe Massa.

Those plans were abandoned following medical checks on a neck injury Schumacher suffered in a motorcycle accident earlier this year that caused him pain during testing.

Pacquiao Frustrated Juan Manuel Marquez For The 2nd Time

There is no doubt that the latest Pacquiao-Marquez fight can be considered as one of the best boxing matches in the history. Both of them are just few of the boxers who played clean in their numerous past matches. Their rivalry seemed to be endless. They would always be branded as opponents inside the ring.

Pacquiao has been labeled to be the punisher to Mexican boxers after defeating 9 of them including Marquez in his entire professional boxing career. That’s why Marquez isn’t only fighting for the title every time he faces Pacquiao but he is also carrying that vengeance for his fellow Mexican boxers.

Boxing analysts are saying that Marquez is considered to be Pacquiao’s nemesis who could keep up with the latter’s speed and stamina. Their 12 round fight clearly showed why. Not like his previous fights, Pacquiao couldn’t just knock Marquez down that easy. If Pacquiao gives out punches, Marquez can do the same.

Both have their own rounds and the audience both inside MGM Grand and those in front of the silver screens couldn’t afford to miss a single moment.

Pacquiao and Marquez remained standing after 12 rounds and everyone’s heart started to pound heavily while waiting for the official decision. Marquez raised his hands claiming the victory while Pacquiao went straight to the ring corner and prayed.

At this moment, the decision would be all up to the judges. Robert Hoyle had it 114-114 and the crowd made noise. Then Dave Moretti had it 115-113 while Glenn Trowbridge had 116-112 declaring Manny Pacquiao to remain as the WBO World Welterweight Title holder.

The crowd seemed to be not happy with the decision. There has been booing mixed with the yells of happiness. Marquez walked out of the ring and went straight to his locker room avoiding the questions of the press while Pacquiao remained celebrating his victory.

This is yet another controversial bout between the two and the fight clearly didn’t show who’s the real undisputed in their category. It has been always a close fight just like their previous match last 2008 wherein Pacquiao won with just a point.

Statistically, Pacquiao clearly won and the judges’ decision is final. They might have seen his edge from Marquez in the fight that cannot be normally seen by a common boxing match viewer.

Venus Williams Out of Wimbledon 2011, Defeated by Tsvetana Pironkova

This was not the time for victory for the Williams sister in tennis. Just like what her sister Serena Williams suffered, Venus Williams was also eliminated from Wimbledon 2011 after losing to Tsvetana Pironkova in Round 4 in the two straight sets, 6-2, 6-3.

Accordingly, this was the first time since 2006 that both of the Williams sisters were eliminated from Wimbledon and did not reach the quarterfinals.

The elimination of the two Williams sisters occurred almost simultaneously. Venus Williams lost from Tsvetana Pironkova and was eliminated from Wimbledon 2011, with less than two hours after her younger sister Serena lost from Marion Bartoli.

Venus Williams also suffered the same fate of injuries just like her sister Serena. She also had an injury and was forced to withdraw from the 2011 Australian Open during the second game of her third round match against Andrea Petkovic of Germany.

At the end of the game, Venus Williams insisted that her sister’s lost had not in anyway contributed to her own downfall saying: “My loss today was my own doing. I just didn’t put the ball in the court, simple as that.”
