Vitor Belfort is healthy, contrary to an earlier injury report on Tuesday that he pulled out of a main event bout at UFC 122 against Yushin Okami on November 13 in Germany. This was revealed on Wednesday through UFC President Dana White’s Twitter account.
Chael Sonnen was originally scheduled for a rematch with UFC Middleweight match with current champion Anderson Silva. Sonnen failed drug tests after their first title fight at UFC 117, resulting to a one-year suspension and missing another shot at Silva’s title.
The unexpected turn of events prompted the UFC to give the title shot to Vitor Belfort in place of Sonnen. The winner of the scheduled fight between Belfort and Okami at UFC 122 was supposed to be an eliminator for the UFC Middleweight title but it appears that Belfort will get his crack without having to beat Okami.
Nate Marquardt who is fresh from a first round knockout win over Rousimar Palhares is replacing Belfort to face Okami at UFC 122 and the winner of their main event bout will eventually face the winner of the UFC 125 middleweight title bout in January 2011.
