Runaway Toyota Prius in San Diego is Safe Now

What would you do if you were driving a Toyota Prius at the speed of over 90 miles per hour and that you cannot stop it because the accelerator got stuck?

This was the incident that happened today in a runaway Toyota Prius in San Diego California. Accordingly, this runaway Prius has been in the eyes of traffic officers after they received a 911 call from the driver of it reporting that its car won’t stop due to unintended acceleration.

The traffic officer eventually caught the Toyota Prius driver by telling him “to apply his emergency brake in tandem with the brake pedal” to stop the car.

This is a horrible incident. If  I would have been the driver of that runaway Prius, I would try my best to immediately turn off the engine to stop the car.

Toyota Motors have already sent their representatives to investigate the case of the runaway Prius. I guess that we really need to have our Toyota cars checked before we drive them just to be safe.

It would be best to bring them to an authorized Toyota dealer and have it checked if it is included in millions of cars recalled by Toyota due to sticking accelerators.

Sandra Bullock’s Oscar Acceptance Speech

Sandra Bullock appeared very gorgeous in her attire as she walked up to the stage to receive her Best Actress Trophy and delivered her acceptance speech.

Sandra Bullock, the star of the movie “The Blind Side” won one of the most coveted Oscars Awards – The Best Actress. There was a stiff competition among co-nominees Helen Mirren of the “The Last Station”, Carey Mulligan of “An Education”, Gabourey Sidibe in “Precious”, and Meryl Streep in “Julie & Julia” but Sandra emerged as the winner among them.

In her speech, she thanked all her co-nominees for the Best Actress Award including the controversial Meryl Streep in which she had a kissing scene by saying “you know what I think of you and you are such a good kisser.”

Due to the 45-second time limit of the acceptance speech in Oscars, Sandra Bullock ended her acceptance speech by thanking her mom Helga Bullock for not allowing her to ride in cars with boys until she finally reached her debut age of 18.

One of the best closing remarks in her speech was addressed again to her mom thanking her for reminding her “that there’s no race, no religion, no class system, no color, nothing, no sexual orientation that makes us better than anyone else.”

Congratulations Sandra Bullock and more power to your career! I am very sure that with that Oscars Best Actress Trophy, a lot more movie offers will be coming your way.

Oscars 2010 Results: The Hurt Locker Sweeps 6 Oscars 2010 Awards

If the movie Slumdog Millionaire was last year’s movie which swept the most Oscars Awards, this year, the movie “The Hurt Locker” did it sweeping 6 Oscars 2010 Awards.

A lot of movie fans were shocked as the movie “Avatar” was defeated by the movie “The Hurt Locker” in a lot of categories.

In fact, “The Hurt Locker” topped the Oscars 2010 Awards getting 6 category awards as it won Best Director, Best in Film Editing, Best Motion Picture, Best in Sound Editing, Best in Sound Mixing, and Best Original Screenplay. This is against Avatar’s winning only 3 Oscars 2010 Awards as it won Best in Art Direction, Best in Cinematography, and Best in Visual Effects.

Interestingly, the two films which are contenders for the most number of Oscars 2010 Awards have a connection in that The Hurt Locker Director Kathryn Bigelow was the former wife of Avatar’s Director James Cameron.

Personally, I have already watched the movie “Avatar” and I could say that it’s one of the best movies I saw. No wonder why it topped the charts as one of the highest grossing film. However, I haven’t watched the movie “The Hurt Locker”.

Some movie reviews to “The Hurt Locker” said that the film was overly emotional and overrated and that it didn’t deserve to win a lot of Oscars 2010 Awards against Avatar. Well, upon topping the Oscars 2010 Awards list, I am now interested to see it also to know if it’s really worth winning the 6 Oscars Awards that it got.

Samsung Sees Breakthrough In 5G Technology

Samsung has announced a breakthrough that it says could power 5G communications, a standard that would allow for much faster data transfer across mobile networks.

Building on the 4G mobile standard, which enables a more fluid mobile web experience, Samsung engineers think the new development could enable ultra-HD video streaming on the next generation of smartphone handsets. The technology would enable handset owners to stream TV shows and movies on the spot in uninterrupted quality – a step up from the capabilities of the current 4G protocols.

Its engineers have developed a transceiver that is capable of reaching the 28GHz Ka band, an ultra-high frequency transmission band that could be used for faster, more effective mobile data transfer. However, some close to the technology have downplayed its importance, suggesting there is still a long way to go before the 5G future becomes a reality.

The transceiver is an important development in the move towards 5G, and its successful creation marks a first-of-a-kind breakthrough for this new technology. However, much of the surrounding technologies still need to be developed, which some analysts have suggested puts this finding in context.

Professor Rahim Tafazolli, the academic leading research efforts into 5G at the University of Surrey, told the BBC the transceiver was just one “piece in the puzzle.” For Professor Tafazolli, whose work is part-funded by Samsung, there is more work to be done towards building a complete 5G band.

“Some of the companies are still putting too much emphasis on speed when discussing going from one generation to another generation. In my opinion 4G achieves a decent speed and what we need to do is crack the capacity crunch we are facing.”

The development of 5G could provide significant opportunities for advertisers. Reviews are showing that a number of businesses are turning to digital marketing opportunities, particularly locally, in order to reach out more directly to prospective customers.

While the local focus is important, businesses need a way to be able to transmit their messages and data in a fast, streaming environment – with 5G, the possibilities for rich advertising media could be endless.

With 5G allowing for HD, broadcast-quality marketing messages, the eventual roll-out of the technology could coincide with a maturing market for mobile advertising, presenting new opportunities for business owners to capitalize.

Aside from the speed increases that come with upgrading to the higher frequency band, commentators are now suggesting the notion of increasing capacity beyond 4G is essential. With smartphones now constantly streaming and sending data, the need for more robust systems has never been greater.

As the developing world joins in with smartphones and their reach expands into new, previously unchartered continents, experts like Professor Tafazolli believe it is now capacity which will affect users and the organizations attempting to advertise on it.

The ongoing research into 5G is being part-funded by a number of sources including Samsung and electronics manufacturers Huawei, the UK Government and Fujitsu. Aside from the University of Surrey team, other independent research work is being carried out around the world to figure out 5G.

X Factor Auditions 2011: Melanie Amaro Got Standing Ovation while Geo Godly Got Complaints

Two performers stood out in this week’s X Factor Auditions 2011. Melanie Amparo got a standing ovation with her rendition of the song Beyonce’s Listen in front of judges Simon Cowell, Paula Abdul, L.A. Reid and new judge Nicole Scherzinger at Miami’s United Bank Center.

Melanie Amparo got the “yes” of all four judges. Judge L.A. Reid said. “You are truly amazing, You have the gift. You have the soul. You have the spirit. You have the swagger. You have the X factor.”

After the audition, Melanie Amparo was very happy and said: “My family they support me and back me 100 percent in my singing. I don’t want to disappoint my family. They’re all so proud, and I definitely got to get that ‘yes.’ ”

Meanwhile, a contestant named Geo Godly got several complaints with his performance. Godly introduced himself as a singer, writer and producer who was classically trained on the piano. He then began prancing around the stage while singing one of his pieces. Less than a minute into his song he dropped his trousers and this made the judges most especially Paula Abdul to walk out because of disgust.

“It was completely inappropriate, and as you can see, a little bit delusional of him to say ‘I have another song.’ The fact that he thought that it would be OK to do that is just rather disgusting,” Abdul said.

A Rare Crocodile Was Found in Florida at St. Petersburg by Shondra Farner

News reports came in where a rare crocodile was spotted by a resident named Shondra Farner at St. Petersburg in Florida.

Shondra Farner found the rare crocodile in her own backyard by the community pond and reported it to Florida Seafood and Wildlife Conservation (FWC) Commission last Sunday, September 18, 2011. They had set a cage trap with beef loin hoping to catch the reptile.

“That big boy was just about 8 feet (2.5 meters) from our patio. It’s terribly scary looking. And fast. When he turned to leave, I couldn’t believe how quick he was.”

Through his trip to Costa Rica, Farner had recognized the difference between crocodiles and alligators. Crocs have narrower, more triangular snout while alligators not only have wider, more rounded snouts, but they also don’t like the brackish and salt waters that crocs can live in.

Lindsey Hord, the crocodile response coordinator for the wildlife commission, said it’s possible that this is the same reptile spotted south of St. Petersburg in 2008. Hord said the crocodile is living on the ducks that swim in the water.

Reviews state that you will find about 1,500 crocodiles in Florida plus they are usually available at 300 miles south within the Florida Secrets where it’s warmer.

FWC authorities says when taken, a magnet is going to be inserted around the rare crocodile and it’ll be launched in to the Polk Bay. The magnet can help disorient the rare reptile and stop it from coming back to communities.

Venus Williams Out of Wimbledon 2011, Defeated by Tsvetana Pironkova

This was not the time for victory for the Williams sister in tennis. Just like what her sister Serena Williams suffered, Venus Williams was also eliminated from Wimbledon 2011 after losing to Tsvetana Pironkova in Round 4 in the two straight sets, 6-2, 6-3.

Accordingly, this was the first time since 2006 that both of the Williams sisters were eliminated from Wimbledon and did not reach the quarterfinals.

The elimination of the two Williams sisters occurred almost simultaneously. Venus Williams lost from Tsvetana Pironkova and was eliminated from Wimbledon 2011, with less than two hours after her younger sister Serena lost from Marion Bartoli.

Venus Williams also suffered the same fate of injuries just like her sister Serena. She also had an injury and was forced to withdraw from the 2011 Australian Open during the second game of her third round match against Andrea Petkovic of Germany.

At the end of the game, Venus Williams insisted that her sister’s lost had not in anyway contributed to her own downfall saying: “My loss today was my own doing. I just didn’t put the ball in the court, simple as that.”

Paralyzed Man Started To Move After Implant to His Spine

After four years of being paralyzed, Rob Summers, 25, finally gained the freedom to move after a successful implant operation of a group of doctors in Louisville, Kentucky.

Summers encountered a car accident in 2006 leading to his paralysis from chest all the way down to his feet. After three years of physical theraphy, his condition had not improved. However, the doctors gave him hope when he suddenly stood within days after the successful implant of an electrical stimulator onto the lining of his spinal cord.

Summers was greatly relieved upon achieving the freedom to move saying:

“It was the most incredible feeling. After not being able to move for four years, I thought things could finally change. This procedure has completely changed my life. For someone who for four years was unable to even move a toe, to have the freedom and ability to stand on my own is the most amazing feeling. My physique and muscle tone has improved greatly, so much that most people don’t even believe I am paralyzed.”

Dr. Susana Harkema, the Head of Research at the Kentucky Spinal Cord Injury Research Center, explained how the implant made Summers move.

“The stimulator sends a general signal to the spinal cord to walk or stand. That tells us we can access the circuitry of the nervous system, which opens up a whole new avenue for us to address paralysis.”
