Palace Sets Royal Wedding Date

Mark your calendars and save the date April 29, 2011 as Britain will celebrate a very special day. The royal family has announced Tuesday that the Royal wedding of His Royal Highness Prince William of Wales to lady Catherine Elizabeth “kate” Middleton will happen on a Friday next year at Westminster Abbey in London.

After 8 long years of courtship, Britain’s Prince William has finally ask the hand of his lady Kate last week in Kenya. News of the royal engagement spread like wild fire. Soon people were eager to find out details about the wedding. Tuesdays announcement ends a week of speculation about the date and venue.

A spokeswoman for Prince Charles issued an official statement “The royal family will pay for the wedding, following the precedence set by the marriages of the prince and princess of Wales in 1981 and Princess Elizabeth and Prince Philip in 1947”.

Prime Minister David Cameron was delighted to know and said the government will shoulder any wider transportation or security-related costs.

The thousand-year-old Westminster Abbey saw a sudden spike of visitors with royal fans, the media, and bookies swarming the place after the couple announced their engagement a week ago.

Westminster Abbey, formally know as Collegiate Church of St. Peter at Westminster, is founded in 960, with the present Gothic church dating to 1245. Located just west of the Palace of Westminster, the place has been a “coronation church” since 1066— the place where kings and queens are crowned when they ascend to the throne– and burial site for English and British monarchs of the Commonwealth Realms.

Westminster Abbey staged several important events in Prince Williams life. The funeral service for his dear mother Princess Diana of was held there in 1997. His grandmother Queen Elizabeth II married Prince Philip there in 1947, when she was still a princess; her father, King George VI, got married there in 1923.

Days after the announcement, Middleton was seen leaving the Abbey with her parents. According to British newspapers, Middleton and her parents had a private after-hours tour.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Cameron welcomed the announcement and has made the wedding day a national holiday. “The wedding of Kate and William will be a happy and momentous occasion. We want to mark the day as one of national celebration. A public holiday will ensure the most people possible will have a chance to celebrate on the day.” Cameron said in a statement.

Prince William Arthur Philip Louis of Wales, second in the line of succession to the thrones of 16 independent states, met Catherine Elizabeth Middleton at St. Andrews University. The two grew closer when they became flatmates. The young lovebirds began dating officially in 2003. After four years of being each other’s sweetheart, news broke out the the couple has called it quits on2007 but after a few months the couple was seen together again. On 16 November 2010, Clarence House announced that Prince William and Catherine Middleton are to marry on 29 April 2011 in Westminster Abbey, London.

Charlie Sheen – Capri Wilson War

Charlie Sheen’s current nemesis, Adult film actress Capri Anderson, may enter into a truce with the 45 year old actor as she has decided against filing a lawsuit against Sheen. According to Anderson’s lawyer, Keith Davidson, she is temporarily withdrawing her complaint.

Anderson, whose real name is Christina Walsh, filed a criminal harassment complaint against Sheen on Monday related to an October 26 event where she allegedly had a violent encounter with the actor. The incident happened at the Plaza Hotel where authorities found Sheen naked and intoxicated and Capri inside the closet.

Davidson told CNN that his clients decision not push through with the lawsuit is not, in any way, caused by the counter lawsuit filed by Sheen’s attorney against her on Monday. Sheen is charging Wilson with extortion. “Ms. Walsh has thus, and for the time being, opted to consult the New York City authorities regarding the events of October 26, 2010,” Davidson said.

The case was brought to the New York police investigation team when she filed her complaint on Monday.

In a TV interview, Anderson said Sheen had sent her text messages apologizing and offering her money for her silent just hours after the incident. But Sheen’s attorney, Yale Galanter denied the reports, saying “Charlie Sheen has never offered her a dime to keep her quiet,”.

TMZ reported on Thursday that they had obtained several text messages in which Charlie is flirting with her in a big way as he offers her $20,000.

The actors lawsuit called Anderson “an opportunistic pornographic film star and publicity hungry scam-artist” who “fabricated a sensational tale about being assaulted, battered and held against her will.” The lawsuit further claimed that Anderson’s lawyer threatened to go to authorities in Colorado — where Sheen is on probation — and appear on morning talk shows “unless Sheen paid her a seven-figure sum.”

The actor is suing Wilson for $165,000 to replace an expensive watch he alleges she took from him. It was this “missing watch” that caused the ruckus, according to Sheen’s petition.

According to the suit: “Sheen asked Walsh to return the watch, and when Walsh refused and falsely denied that she had taken the watch, Sheen became extremely upset. Walsh then locked herself in the bathroom of the hotel room and refused to come out.” The lawsuit adds “At no time did Sheen assault, batter or threaten Walsh. She locked herself in the bathroom “because she was afraid that Sheen might find the watch on her.”

Galanter questioned Anderson’s motive and pointed out that she did not make a report of wrongful conduct against Sheen on the night of the incident. Davidson, however, firmly defended his client’s right to receive compensation for the damages done. “We know that the room was trashed, we know that Capri was chased and locked into a bathroom,” Davidson said, “and we know that one person was brought away from the hotel against their will.”

Charlie Sheen, whose real name is Carlos Irwin Estevez, is the son of veteran actor Martin Sheen and brother of Emilio Estevez. He was formerly married to Donna Peeler, Denise Richards, and Brooke Mueller. Some of his film credits include Plattoon, Major League, Hotshots, Scary Movie 3 and 4. Sheen is famous for his roles on two sitcoms: Spin City and Two and a Half Men.

Reliable information to hunt down Osama Bin Laden ignored

Dr. August Hanning, Germany’s foreign intelligence chief, has every reason to believe that Osama Bin Laden is alive and well in Pakistan. According to Dr. Hanning, he had information about the al Qaeda’s founder and chief’s whereabouts back in 2001. Unfortunately, it was never brought to actionable intelligence that would have led to his capture

Hanning told CNN that when Osama bin Laden was being bombed at Tora Bora, al Qaueda’s leader was watching the events unfolding right in front of his eyes. Hanning did not elaborate on his source of information but he admits to agents feeding him news and updates on Bin Laden.

He also said that it was a “missed opportunity” to track down the 53 year old FBI’s ten most wanted fugitive. “I knew there was a chance in Afghanistan I think immediately before Tora Bora and in Tora Bora … I think there was a real opportunity to catch him and afterwards in Pakistan it became very difficult,” Hanning told CNN.

The lost opportunity is definitely lamentable, especially for the United States. Bin Laden and his Islamic extremist group al-Qaueda is believed to be behind the September 11 attacks on the World Trade Center. He and his group is currently major targets of the United States War on Terror.

He also pointed out that Bin Laden’s ability to inspire makes him more dangerous today than back then. “He’s not operational but I think he knows the basics. He makes strategic decisions, and of course he’s a symbolic figure and figures are important. ”

Hanning is confident that the Saudi born “terrorist” is in Pakistan, saying: “I think there are still a lot of hints that he is in Pakistan, and according to my estimates he is in the tribal areas in the region near Peshawar: the border region between Pakistan and Afghanistan”.

Pakistani officials, however, consistently deny Bin Laden’s presence on their soil. But Hanning believes otherwise, saying co-conspirators are hiding him. “It’s hard for me to believe that they know nothing. In some ways the al Qaeda leader is useful to Pakistan, so long [as] bin Laden is in Pakistan so Pakistan will get support from the Americans’ fight against terrorism.”

Hanning, who was appointed State Secretary in the German Federal Interior Ministry at the end of 2005, believes that tracking down bin Laden is crucial to the withdrawal of US troops from Afghanistan. He said that bin Laden’s presence in Pakistan needs to be cleared as al Qaeda is likely to return to Afghanistan if possible.

Hanning left his post last year. Osama bin Mohammed bin Awad bin Laden was born on March 10, 1957 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. He is the son of Muhammed Awad bin Laden, a wealthy businessman with close ties to the Saudi royal family, and Hamida al-Attas, the tenth wife of Muhammed bin Laden. Osama is best known as the founder and leader of the Islamic extremist group, al-Qaeda, a notorious rogue bandits responsible for the 1998 US Embassy and 2001 World Trade bombings and other “terror” attacks.

Anuradha Koirala is CNN’s 2010 Hero of the Year

Anuradha Koirala, founder and Executive Director of Maiti Nepal, was named CNN’s 2010 Hero of the year during the annual “CNN Heroes: An All-Star Tribute” Thanksgiving night . Koirala, together with 9 other nominees, were each honored with a documentary tribute during the awarding.

Koirala’s group, the Maiti Nepal, is an organization that protect and prevent Nepali girls and women from crimes like trafficking, child prostitution and child labor, domestic violence, and various forms of exploitation and torture. To date, the group has rescued more than 12,000 women from sex slavery.

“Human trafficking is a crime, a heinous crime, a shame to humanity. I ask everyone to join me to create a society free of trafficking. We need to do this for all our daughters.” Koirala said in her introduction speech.

CNN’s Anderson Cooper made the announcement towards the end of the event, marking the highlight of the night. Ms. Koirala won title via public online poll that ran for eight weeks. She and her fellow “heroes” were chosen by a blue-ribbon panel from an initial pool of more than 10,000 nominees.

Veteran actress Demi Moore, along with husband Ashton Kutcher, proudly introduced Koirala during the event. Moore and Kutcher runs the DNA foundation, an organization that also aims to eliminate child sex slavery. Moore was very empathic during her introduction of Koirala saying:

“Every day this woman confronts the worst of what humanity has to offer. She says, ‘Stop. Stop selling our girls.’ By raiding brothels and patrolling the India-Nepal border, she saves girls from being sold into the sex trade, where they are being repeatedly raped for profit, tortured and enslaved. Since 1993, she has helped rescue more than 12,000 women and girls. Through her organization Maiti Nepal, she has provided more than a shelter for these girls and young women, she has created a home. It is a place for them to heal, go to school, learn a skill, and for some who are infected with HIV/AIDS, it is the place where they can spend their days surrounded by love.”

Koirala, a former English teacher, welcomed the award. She took home a total of  $125,000 prize money to fund her organization. Maiti Nepal, an agency that focuses on preventing human trafficking and sex slavery, started in a small house with Ms. Koirala’s own savings.

Arrest in Absence order issued against Assange

WikiLeaks director Julian Assange is in hot water as Sweden’s director of public prosecution has issued an arrest order on Thursday against the 38 year old writer, publisher, and internet activist. The order came after a series of charges– sususpected of rape, sexual molestation and illegal use of force– were filed against him.

According to Marianne Ny, Assange faces five counts or criminal charges that occurred in two separate incidents: One count of rape and one count of sexual molestation related to an incident in Enkoping, about 78 km west of Stockholm, on August 17. His third and fourth counts of sexual molestation is related  to the August 13 and 18 incident in Stockholm. And the last count, illegal use of force, was charged in connection to the August 13 and 14 incident that took place in the capital.

If convicted, Assange could be sentenced to at least two years in prison, according to a court document filed by Ny. “The background is that he has to be heard in this investigation and we haven’t been able to get a hold of him to question him,” She told CNN in a statement.

This is the first time officials have included probable cause in their order. The  court has upgraded the molestation charge to sexual molestation.

The order, asking the Stockholm Criminal Court to arrest in Absence, means any Swedish officials who comes across WikiLeaks’ spokesperson and editor-in-chief must detain him. The court decision came out Thursday afternoon at 2p.m. but Assenge was nowhere to be found on the same day.

Ny believes that a crime had been committed but needs more investigation to build up the case before she could lay her decision on the table. Meanwhile, Swedish authorities announced earlier that they were looking into the case of Assenge involving  two separate cases of rape and molestation.

Assange, on the other hand, had consistently denied any wrongdoings and maintained his innocence, dismissing the accusations as “smear campaign” during an interview with the  Arabic-language television network Al-Jazeera. While being pressed for answers by CNN’s Atika Shubert, Assange repeatedly declined to answer questions about the rape and molestation investigation. “This interview is about something else. I will have to walk if you are … if you are going to contaminate this extremely serious interview with questions about my personal life,” he said. Moments later, he walked off the set.

Julian Paul Assange, born on Townsville, Queensland Australia, was a former journalist and computer programmer. He is best known for his contribution to the WikiLeaks, an international whistleblower website that publishes confidential and “unavailable” documents from anonymous sources and leaks.

Assange is usually described as the director and founder of the site but he disproves the title, saying  “I don’t call myself a founder,” and describe himself as the editor in chief of  WikiLeaks instead.

WikiLeaks gained media attention when in April 2010, the site posted a video in  which Iraqi civilians were killed by U.S. forces. Then in subsequent months, it released the “Afghan War Diary”, a compilation of more than 76,900 undisclosed documents about the War in Afghanistan.

Holloway’s Family Awaits DNA Test Result

Five years after the disappearance of Alabama teen Natalee Ann Holloway, the FBI are still clueless about the case. Lack of evidence has made the case extremely difficult to solve and added to that is the fact that the incident happened overseas in Oranjestad, Aruba.  In a surprising twist of fate, a new evidence have surfaced to finally put Holloway’s case to an end.

Last Friday, an American tourist found a part of a jawbone with a tooth near the Phoenix Hotel, a large resort on the western side of Aruba. The “evidence” is now under evaluation at the Netherlands Forensic Institute in The Hague, Netherlands according to Aruban prosecutor Peter Blanken .

Results will be release Thursday. Investigators and family members are eager to learn whether the jawbone found on the Aruban beach belongs to an animal or human. If results prove the bone belongs to a human, officials will then attempt to find out using a DNA match whether it belongs to Natalee Holloway. The test results were supposedly to be returned Wednesday but investigators were held up by a technical delay.

According to a spokesperson for the Netherland’s Forensic Institute the length of testing can vary but normally it takes only about a week to finish. The s

An Aruban prosecuter told CNN earlier that the initial examination by a forensic expert in Aruba determined the bone was that of a young woman’s. Blanken, however, was quick to caution that the final determination would be made by the Netherland’s Forensic Institute.

Natalee Ann Holloway, who was last seen in the island of Aruba back in 2005, was born on October 21, 1986 in Clinton, Mississippi. She disappeared on May 30, 2005, during a high school graduation trip to the Caribbean country. She was just 18 years old and a fresh graduate of from Mountain Brook High School on May 24, 2005.

Holloway, member of the National Honor Society, was scheduled to return to the US on May 30. According to her classmates, she was last seen outside a Caribbean chain restaurant and nightclub in Oranjestad. She was inside a car with Joran van der Sloot and brothers Deepak and Satish Kalpoe.

The three men were arrested but due to lack of sufficient evidence, they were released without charges. Joran van der Sloot, is currently  waiting trial in Lima, Peru, on a different murder charge. He is currently under close surveillance after officials received a video footage of him  saying Holloway died on the morning of her departure and that he dispose her body. He was obviously under the influence of drugs.

Van der Sloot, 23, denied that the contents of the video and subsequently said that he had sold Holloway into sexual slavery during an exclusive interview. Greta Van Susteren however later retracted his statement.

On March 29, 2010, Van der Sloot contacted Holloway’s mother Beth Twitty, through legal representative John Q. Kelly, with an offer to reveal the location of her daughter’s body for an advance of $25,000 against a total of $250,000. He was later charged with extortion and wire fraud by the District Court of Northern Alabama.

Japanese Bra that aims to promote tourism

Tokyo– Japan has launched another “world’s first” technology last Thursday. Triumph Japan, a leading lingerie maker in the country unveiled their newest lingerie line, “Welcome to Japan bra”, that aims to boost tourism.

The “Welcome to Japan bra” takes its form after a tour conductor’s uniform. It comes with built-in three gold buttons which, when pressed, sent out welcoming messages in 3 languages: English, Chinese and Korean.

The provocative brassiere also comes with a removable push-up pads that bears the nation’s most famous tourist attractions, such as Mount Fuji and Sensoji Temple’s Kaminarimon gate in Asakusa. Furthermore, the lingerie is sold in set, with a matching funky wraparound miniskirt that also has a Japanese map imprinted on the backside.

So just exactly how does this “wonder bra” works? The company released an online demo earlier showing people how it is done: The tour guide shows her audience the locations of the tourist landmarks by taking out the removable push-up pads from the cups and stick it on the fabric map to indicate to her audience the exact places of the landmarks.

Triumph really does know how to be interactive. The company also included a transparent plastic sleeve, where audience can put postcards, in near the abdominal area and the sides of the bra are insertable with tour guide flags.

In case you are wondering why Triumph would make such a thing, this is not the first time the lingerie company has come up with a ‘naughty’ concept for a brassiere. In fact the has a reputation for creating outlandish designs and concepts for their lines.

It is a common practice of the company to launch their creative bras during domestic social-political events. This time, the debut of the ‘Talking bra’ coincides with the APEC summit in Yokyohama.

The Brassieres or ‘bra’ is an article of clothing that covers and supports the bust. Brassieres are also considered as a erotic item and a “feminine icon” with significance beyond its primary function. Culturally, a bra is symbolic to a young girl’s coming of age. Brassieres a worn for a variety of purposes: for support, to improve the shape of breasts, to hold and restrain breast movement during an activity.

Brassiere, taken from an old French word “braciere” meaning “arm protector”, is made up of  two cups for breasts, a gore or center panel, a band running around the torso under the bust, and shoulder straps that supports the bra. Some bras are strapless.

According to Wikipedia guide, a correct fitting bra should have these features:

  • When viewed from the side, the chest band should be horizontal, should not ride up the back, and should be firm but comfortable.
  • Each cup’s underwire at the front should lie flat against the sternum (not the breast), along the infra-mammary fold, and should not dig in to the chest or the breasts, rub or poke out at the front.
  • The breasts should be enclosed by the cups and there should be a smooth line where the fabric at the top of the cup ends.
  • The apex of the breast, the nipple, must be in the center of the cup.
  • The breast should not bulge over the top or out the sides of the cups, even with a low-cut style such as the balconette bra.
  • The straps of a correctly fitted bra should not dig into or slip off the shoulder
  • The back of the bra should not ride up but should remain parallel to the floor.
  • The breasts should be supported primarily by the band around the rib cage, rather than by the shoulder straps.
  • The wearer should be able to breathe and move easily without the bra slipping around.

Mobile Phones with STD diagnose features

A research project in Europe is underway to let people take the STD exams with full privacy and in the confines of their own comfort. The Electronic Self-Testing Instruments for Sexually Transmitted Infections or “eSTI2” company is working on a mobile phone that can diagnose Sexually transmitted Disease.

Tariq Sadiq and his team at St George’s University of London, England is heading the initiative to develop the world’s first STD diagnosing mobile phone. The phone will be supported by a chip that, technically, analyzes the saliva, urine, or blood sample. Sadiq’s team has just received a $6.5 million grant for this project.

Sadiq told reporters that his technology will make possible checking a person’s STD status via a smartphone in just 5 to 15 minutes. “It’s brining the diagnostics to the population rather than having the population come into clinics,” he stressed. “We’ve really wanted to do this process because there’s been this huge burden of sexually transmitted infections,” he said.

Sexually transmitted disease, such as syphillis, gonnorhea , herpes, and HIV are on the rise, Sadiq said, but social and personal barriers– such as stigma associated with testing and the inconvenience of waiting for an appointment at a clinic — usually prevents many people from getting an exam. The eSTI2 project hopes to break down these barriers.

“We’re kind of halfway there to be honest, and that’s why we’ve got funding — to complete that,” Sadiq, referring to his prototype chips that are about the size of a flash memory card, said. Sadiq hopes to bring down the cost from $15 to $3 before it goes to the market.

The chips won’t be available for another 7 or 10 years, sadiq explained as they still need to go through further tech and clinical trials and improvement. The chip is were the actual testing takes place and requires most of the tech development. The eSTI2 is making sure that all aspects of this technology is working before shipping it.

“Doctors, social scientists and technologists need to understand the pros and cons of on-the-spot STD testing before introducing these products to the public. Because of that, the group is inching the project forward rather than racing to commercialization,” Sadiq told CNN during an interview. “Other on-the-go STD tests — like a saliva test for HIV — have not been as accurate as companies have claimed,” he said. The tests must be accurate, easy to use and secure before they’re useful,” he added.

Sadiq announced that the chips will be made readily available in public locations like vending machines. The chip is basically the brain and the mobile phone is the processor. Sadiq further explained that these disposable chips — used once and then thrown away– are inserted into the mobile phone through a standard cable. Everything is still under works.

The concept of on-the-go medical testing has been around for a while already. George Whitesides of Harvard University launched a “lab on chip” prototype earlier. His technology aims to diagnose HIV, malaria, tuberculosis, hepatitis, and gastroenteritis in the developing world. He used a paper-made-chip that changes color accordingly to the results. is under fire for promoting controversial e book is currently taking flak from angry users for selling a controversial e-book. The popular online shopping website has displayed an e-book that seemingly promoted pedophilia. The post drew more than 2,500 angry comments and even threats of boycott.

The controversial ebook, “The Pedophile’s Guide to Love and Pleasure: A Child-Lover’s Code of Conduct”, went on sale October 28 at but was immediately pulled out of the listing late Wednesday after hoard of users expressed anger and criticism over the site’s decision to post the book, calling it “offensive and disgusting”. A Facebook fan page was even created urging users and buyers to boycott unless they pull out the provocative e- book.

Meanwhile, the author of the controversial e book Philip R. Greaves II, who has three more titles on, defended his work. He said he published it to “address what he considers unfair portrayals of pedophiles in the media”.  In a phone interview with CNN he said that “True pedophiles love children and would never hurt them”.

The 47-year-old author from Pueblo, Colorado said that the book can be advisory in some ways. “There are certain parts that are consultative laying down the lines that should not be crossed.” he said.

Greaves, who described himself as a former nurses’ aid, further clarified his intention in writing the book in a separate interview:

“This is my attempt to make pedophile situations safer for those juveniles that find themselves involved in them, by establishing certian rules for these adults to follow. I hope to achieve this by appealing to the better nature of pedosexuals, with hope that their doing so will result in less hatred and perhaps liter (sic) sentences should they ever be caught.”

The author was quick to say that he has never had sexual contact with a child as an adult. Greaves, however, admitted that he had an ‘pedophile’ encounter as a teenager. According to Greaves, he was introduced to oral sex at the tender age of 7 by an older female. He did not elaborate further.

User and buyers, however, did not share the same opinion as rants and criticism stormed the website.  One user wrote:

“It is ILLEGAL to molest children, and for Amazon to promote such is insane. I’m an abuse survivor, and am OUTRAGED Amazon would choose to promote this nonsense. I will not be purchasing anything from your website until this is removed”.

Another lamented:

“Cannot believe that Amazon is selling this. I was in the middle of placing my whole Christmas shopping order when I saw something about this. After reviewing it, I have canceled my order from Amazon and am encouraging all of my friends not to order from Amazon because they are choosing to sell this book. I will not be purchasing anything from Amazon until they agree to quit selling this book”.

CNN was not able to connect with Amazon for comments but one user submitted the reply e-mail Amazon sent to him :

“Let me assure you that does not support or promote hatred or criminal acts; we do support the right of every individual to make their own purchasing decisions. believes it is censorship not to sell certain titles because we believe their message is objectionable.”
