Australia’s Next Top Model Announced Wrong Winner
Australia’s Next Top Model Announced Wrong Winner – In the live finale of sixth series of Australia’s Next Top Model, a wrong winner was announced by its host Sarah Murdoch.
Before the real winner, Amanda Ware, was crowned, a major gaffe happened during the finale Murdoch, announced the wrong winner, Kelsey Martinovich. Kelsey Martinovich had been crowned champion by public vote and was making an acceptance speech when presenter Sarah Murdoch interrupted her.
Murdoch said: “I’m feeling sick about this. I’m so sorry, this was a complete accident,” as she was shaking her head and listening to her earpiece. Then she announced the real winner was 18-year old Amanda Wave. She added:”This is what happens when you have live TV, folks. This is insane, insane, insane.” The host attempted to explain the gaffe saying: “The lead kept changing. It was literally down to a couple of votes. It kept changing back and forward…and we ended up with Amanda as a winner.”
After the incident, Martinovich appeared to take the situation well by saying “It’s OK, it’s an honest mistake.” And as a way of apology, Martinovich was awarded AUS$25,000 and a free trip to the United States.
Ware was shocked after the announcement that she is the real winner. The two contenders embraced and walked the catwalk for the final time. Ware won an eight-page spread in women’s magazine Harpers Bazaar, a contract with Pricilla’s modeling agency, an AUS$25,000 Levi’s campaign, an AUS$20,000 cash prize, a new car and a trip to New York.
