The most popular social networking site Facebook has added two new relationship statuses in their standard list. These are “In a civil union” and “In a domestic partnership”. This is inline with the request of the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation and similar groups to the team.
GLAAD president Jarrett Barrios said in statement: “By acknowledging the relationships of countless loving and committed same-sex couples in the U.S. and abroad, Facebook has set a new standard of inclusion for social media.” This is just an indication that the network has been promoting equality among individuals in their network. This is also a great leap in the acceptance of the third sex in a social community wherein millions are involved.
The inclusion of the the two new relationship statuses are already applied to Facebook accounts in U.S., Canada, the United Kingdom, France and Australia. Sooner or later, all the countries having Facebook will have the same.
This action made by Facebook will just encourage more people to make accounts as relationship status is a vital information that a certain user would look at or show. Sometimes it is the only reason why a certain person is signing up, that is know a certain person’s relationship status.
