Leonardo DiCaprio, the environmentalist actor famous for his films ‘Titanic’ and “Inception’ just bought a car worth $100,000, a 2012 Fisker Karma Hybrid on August 18, 2011
The $100,000 DiCaprio car was designed by Henrik Fisker, an automobile designer and CEO of Fisker Coachbuild, with a price of $96,895 for the base model and closer to $110,000 for the fancy-pants version.
Henrik Fisker described how he married the idea of a fast car with the notion of going green as he told Reuters in 2009 saying: “A couple of years ago it started, by people who were maybe a little ahead of their time. You saw some movie stars like Leonardo DiCaprio buying a Prius.”
The 2012 Fisker Karma Hybrid car has two modes: stealth mode and sport mode. In stealth mode, the car runs solely on its twin electric motors, which can power the car at a top speed of 125 mph. In sport mode, a turbo-charged four-cylinder engine kicks in to both charge the batteries and increase acceleration where it can go from zero to 60 in just 5.8 seconds.
As an environmentalist, DiCaprio is well-known for his commitment and efforts to save the planet. Below is a video of the $100,000 DiCaprio car from TMZ.
